NCAA Session 4 Thread ...

Thomas Gilman with one of the guttiest performances in a semi-final I've ever seen. Goes after NATO in OT and gets the PIN!!! Will go down as one of the biggest moments in Iowa tourney history. What a gutty win. I can appreciate that.

Iowa hereby loses all right to cry about any other calls. Merry Christmas, Thomas Gilman. Heck of a match, but no pin.

Conaway vs. Mason Beckman (Lehigh)

Per 1
Missed the 1st minute. Lot of hand and head fighting, but no shots. 1 min left. Neither guy is shooting -- too busy fighting for control. JC in on a single, and gets the TD at 16 sec, 2-0. Bechman tries a roll but JC stays with him. End. 15 sec of RT for JC

Per 2
Beckman takes down. Beckman sits out, and is out in 7 sec, 2-1. RT at 21 sec. Beckman gets a TD (missed it watching another match), 2-3. RT now in JC's favor. Stalemate at 48 sec. JC working up but Beckman hanging on, then OOB at 19 sec. JC up but Beckman has the ankle, now nearly out, but buzzer. End. Beckman with 54 sec of RT.

Per 3
JC takes down. Caution on Beckman. RT now over 1 min. JC up and out at 1:47, 3-3. RT at 1:07, so JC needs a TD. 1 min left. Beckman working the edge. JC in on a single, trying to drag Beckman in, and he gets the TD, 5-3, as they go OOB at 46 sec. Sitout by Beckamn, and he's out at 37 sec. RT is down to 59 sec, so it's a non-factor. 5-4 JC leads with 20 sec. Beckamn with a shot, and JC sprawls. Beck=man in on a leg, JC with a whizzer, and it's over. Way to Go Conaway!!!!

If it's sudden victory, why didn't they stop the bout as soon as Gilman got the TD?

If you take him to his back, you're given the chance to get the pin. If the bottom guy avoids the pin, then the NF points are awarded and it's over. Basically, it's so that the guy that gets the TD isn't prevented from getting the bonus points.

nice job clark. Zain deserved to loose as much as clark deserved to win. Go hawks! puke, yuk, spit

Heil - Ashnault should be a fun match. Not sure who will win that one.

McKenna - Meridith -- not sure what to expect. Pre-tourney, I would have picked McKenna, and probably still will.

I should add, I found 141 to be the toughest weight to predict for the Pick'Ems.

They allow action to continue so the top wrestler has the chance for the pin. If tomasello had avoided the pin and gotten off of his back, they would have stopped the match.

They allow the top wrestler to continue the pinning action, because the pin effects team points and they don't want to take the opportunity away by stopping action. Again if it was a simple takedown, they would have stopped the match once the two points was awarded.

That is about as close a match as you will ever see - razor thin but way to gut out a win in the third Jordan after going into the 3rd period down a point and RT-Adv. Conway is just nails in these types of "who wants it more" matches.

Heil wins (Ashnault gotten taken down 3 times, and only rode Heil for 10 sec).

Meredith with the upset over McKenna, with a late TD (where McKenna was in deep, but Meredith fought it off then countered and got the TD).
