NCAA Session 4 Thread ...

149:
Zain vs. Alec Panteleo (Michigan)

Hope to see some pain. ;)

Zain pinned Panteleo in the PSU - Mich dual, and also at the B1G tourney.

Two RS sophs

Per 1
Pan with the 1st shot, nothing. 1 min gone. Zain gets an ankle and the TD, 2-0, as they go OOB at 1:51. Blood time for Pantaleo. Pant up quickly but taken back down. Zain working the right side, Panteleo is flat. Pant up but they go OOB at 1:02 left. Caution on Pantaleo. Pant up quickly and taken back down. Zain on the right. He's working a modified bow and arrow, and nearly has a tilt, and now he gets swipes. End. 4 NF, 6-0. 1:53 of RT for Zain.

Per 2
Pantaleo takes neutral. Zain in on a low single, and gets the TD, 8-0. Quickly working on the right. Working for another tilt, and getting swipes. Ref is holding 4, and he awards them, 12-0. Another tilt, and swipes are going. Close to a pin, and there it is!!!!!!!!!

4:49 is the time of the pin.
Zain's 2nd bow and arrow was the stuff of legends -- as in Wade Schalles legends.

All of those tales of Schalles dragging opponents to a pre-determined spot on the mat to pin him ...

Zain grabbed Pantaleo's ankle and head at the edge. Didn't turn him right away -- instead used it to spin him 270 deg until he was facing the center of the mat, so they wouldn't go out of bounds. Then cranked him over.

Unreal.

Unreal.

Panteleo is going to have nightmares of Zain Retherford for a long time. I doubt he ever wants to step onto the mat with Zain again. It's been just brutal for Pantaleo, who is a hammer in his own right.

I really like Zeke Jordan. It's too bad for him that Deiringer is at 165lbs this year. He'll be a threat to win the next two years.

J-No needs to keep the constant pressure on I-Mar and not let him try his tie-up dancing bear, zero wrestle in neutral BS. Nolf's clear advantage is funk and scrambles from neutral - try to make it a high scoring match even if you give up some points in 1st....just keep coming at him again and again like the 1st match. Make him wrestle J-No has the better tank as we saw in the 1st match was in a 1-meet in a week dual (e.g., having lots of time after weigh-ins is not a huge advantage for I-Mar).

It would also help if the officiating crew doesn't let Perry turn it into a red flag circus to get Imar Lung timeouts.

Sweet Baby Jesus, Jackson is an "awkward" match-up for Bo. They both have a lot of "funk" to them, but their funk is matches up somewhat weird. One thing for sure, they both want, and like, to throw.

Ugh, Conaway's match will take place while Nickal's match is taking place. I'm going to start with JC, but will switch to Nickal.

Conaway - Hall (Iowa St)
Per 1:
Long scramble but JC with the TD, 2-0. Injury time to Hall.

Switching to Nickal (JC won 7-2)

174 Semi
Bo Nickal vs. Nathan Jackson (Indiana)

Nickal's only lost of the year was to Jackson in the PSU - Indy dual.

Per 1
Ear to ear. Then Bo tries a throw and nearly gets caught (again), then Bo puts Jackson on his back from a headlock but they are OOB at 2:28. Jackson has a leg, but they are OOB at 1:59. Ear to ear. Jackson in on a leg and gets a TD, 0-2 at 1:28. OOB at 1:22. Nice TD. Bo to his feet, and out at 1:16. 1-2. 12 of RT for Jackson. Ear to ear again. Stalemate at 35 sec. Jackson shoots, blocked. End

Per 2
Jackson takes down. Nickal went for a tilt and nearly got reserved. Jackson gets an esc at about 12 sec, 1-3. Bo nearly with a TD, but OOB at 1:28. Nickal has a low single, they scramble, and Bo gets the TD at 52 sec, 3-3. Not much happening, but RT is growing. Ref talking to them. Jackson isn't doing a thing on bottom, and gets hit with a stall warning. End. RT at 52 sec.

Per 3
Nickal takes down.. He cuts Bo, 4-3. RT not a factor (it's 51 sec for Bo). Jackson shoots, Bo sprawls, and a stalemate at 1:09. Bo with an ankle pick but OOB at 55 sec. Ear to ear, again. 30 sec left. Jackson reaches, blocked. Jackson shoots again, blocked. OOB at 4 sec, after Jackson nearly got a TD, but Bo kept moving his hips.

That's a wrap, as Bo wins 4-3

Bo about gave me a heart attack. Jackson is just tough match for him because of his style of wrestling.

Ohio State is eliminated from the team title race.

PSU, Iowa, Okla. St., and VT are the only ones that still have a chance to win. PSU is the leader, though there are still matches to complete in this session.

Smack on Mat 3 after 184 Dean

Mat 3

Upcoming Matches

184 - Semifinal
Gabriel Dean, . (32-1) - Cornell
Pete Renda, . (24-7) - NC State

197 - Semifinal
Morgan McIntosh, . (31-0) - Penn State
Nathan Burak, . (26-2) - Iowa

Bo didn't pressure Jackson enough. I saw him gas hard in the 3rd against Meyer and it was because Meyer kept the pressure on him. Way too close for comfort.

So Conaway will be in the consolation semis Saturday morning.

He has a tough matchup, with Zane Richards (Illinois).

Cody Brewer (Okla) - Eric Montoya (Nebraska) is the other consolation semi for 133
