if you look at the ncaa process, they have tried to put safeguards to prevent a school from contacting or inducing a player to start transfer process. Prior to October when a player needed permission from their school to start a transfer there was more control over a coach trying to recruit players from other teams. you may recall both Auburn and Bama were sanctioned for this type of behavior in early 2000's.

it is going to be interesting to see if NCAA has teeth to go after schools/coaches who actually make direct/indirect contact with players on other teams to induce transfer by entering their name in the database. I can see a type of intermediary style bagman developing with the focus being inducement to transfer.

Back channeling has always existed for potential transfers. It usually goes through the high school coach or someone else close to the player. The high school coach is usually the easiest route - it’s not unusual at all for a college coach to contact a high school coach about a 2019 or 2020 prospect and, in the course of the conversation, find out that the 2017 kid who’s now a sophomore at X school is unhappy, might be looking for a better fit elsewhere, and might be interested to learn if the college coach might potentially have room for him if he decides to transfer.

It’s existed for as long as players have transferred. The new system just takes away the middleman.

If only the NCAA could effectively eliminate The BagMan in recruiting...

The Bagman is in every facet of life.... money talks. You can never eliminate it. Must learn to live with it and manage it. It is what it is!
