NCAA's brackets, seeds and other discussions

5 non-Lion upsets I’d most like to see:
Mac Stout > AJ (Panther avenges Nino’s loss to the newly devout scripture fan)
Hardy > Alirez (still consider Brock the u-dog here, and I dig this dog)
K Webster > Lovett (nagging unease about Ridge v SVN)
Noto/Nic/Nasir > Ayala (tired of 1-trick slide-by kneeler)
D Washington > Arnold (comic relief)

I've got Glazier > AJ over all of those.

Arnold got the 11 seed, on Keckeisen's side, has permanently ducked Carter. Gets Foca in Round 2.
Since Carter "Missed" two matches at thr Big10s last year the NCAA should give them back to him and allow him to wrestle Arnold in the 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 duals against Iowa.

Hell as he'd have no post season those years, Carter could work on some of his new submission holds.

After seeing what Arnold is made of, why even bother, he’s not worth it.

Never happen. I think to have to get that sort of waiver from the NCAA, you have to have the suffix "-er" in your first name.

...oh. never mind.

I went down to Nashville to see KOT-Levi. Levi matches up just fine with KOT. He’s got a feel for the Mizzou dude now and with the brain trust behind him . . . better than 50% chance that Levi wins another Natty. In regard to Pinto, … KOT will keep it boring.
Hope he gets the opportunity. Hamiti worries me with his length and guys have been getting to Levi's legs a little to easy. Who knows maybe that is by design.

I agree. Q was very vague about what sort infraction he may have made, but he seemed to have had the right people fighting (politicking?) for him behind the scenes.
Also who sent it in.

2012 was his first year at 184, when he lost to Bosak in the finals. We still would've won the team title if Q had been DQ, but Minny, Iowa, and Cornell would've been in range if our 3 champs slipped up.

If we have the tourney that Basch and Willie are calling for.. it will go down as the greatest team by far in the history of wrestling.. From their mouths to g-ds ears...

Wait 'til we see what next year looks like - LL, Ono, Blaze, SVN, Duke (Kasak RS on way to 174), MM, Levi, Barr, Mirasola, Mirasola or something like that. It's a great time to be a PSU wrestling fan!

For additional context on Barr - I'm assuming he's seriously injured and have him losing to 2 AAs - Munoz and Beard.

In the not too distant past you would’ve been accused of SDS (Seed Derangement Syndrome) for predicting such high numbers.

But we’ll allow it.

I don't think they'll do it, but you guys could break 200 next week.
Absolutely. If Barr is healthy and everything else goes as you predict 200 is definitely possible. I don’t see it happening either but it would be incredible to watch

No way. I think we have a decent shot at 180 though, and as usual, a lot has to go our way to get there. 200 is nearly a perfect tournament, and I'm not sure that even Cael has invented that yet. That would need 8-9 finalists. Not impossible but a tall order as wrestling itself contracts and quality improves across the board.

Difference between optimistic Penn State wrestling fans and optimistic Iowa wrestling fans.

In April while Penn State is celebrating another championship Iowa dreams about next year with 9 AAs, 5 champs and 150 points from a lineup that includes 7 guys who have never wrestled at Iowa.

A week before the NCAA tournament while Iowa wonders what happened at the Big10 and will they ever have another Big10 champ Penn State is discussing the realistic probability of 7 or 8 in the finals. Can they get 10AAs and while 180 points is a lot can the Lions somehow top 200.

Another difference:

In April, PSU fans will be looking forward to seeing Duke, Blaze, Henckel, Desmond, Cunningham, and Perry (and Ono?).

Iowa fans will be wondering how Figueroa could turm down that much cash.

I agree that 200 isn’t likely and almost sounds preposterous but if you look at @js8793 predictions they all seem feasible and he has PSU at 186 points with Barr not placing. If Barr is healthy and finishes top 4 200 is within reach. Absolutely wild

Based on their Seed relative to their cumulative season record (which should be the most important statistic), only BB and BD really got seeded lower than they deserved (and in both cases, it was putting way too much emphasis on a Conference Chapionship in "the matrix" - causing several people to be seeded higher in the case of BD.).

Bartlett should have been the #1 seed based on a superior record against essentially the identical competition as Hardy (Beau only had 1 loss versus Hardy's 3 losses - again, against virtually the same competition. This would not be ignored in any other wrestling seeding "matrix".). Not sure it matters @141 as the 1-Seed drew a top 4 wrestler in the Quarters (Alirez) via "the matrix's" loopy algorithm. And will face another top-4 wrestler in the Semi's (likely Happel). The other top-2 wrestlers (BB and Jesse Mendez) don't see each other until the Semi's.

The "matrix" totally shat the bed in regards to the entire 141 bracket which is what happens when you do no statistical testing of a multi-factor model that is supposed to have "predictive power" regarding seeding (they could have back-tested the Factors... and their weighting on prior year results). $hit-in produces $sit-out when you don't have the model professionally designed and tested for correlation and predictive significance.

More Matrix bellyaching ?? .... TL/DR
