ND jumping PSU?

USC might not beat UCLA, so I am calling ND O-U-T if they lose to USC, which I also think is possible.
Very Possible. USC has some really good talent but - from week to week - it just depends on which USC team shows up. They're hard to figure out and bet on or against

USC was awful again last night even in a win
I wish ND played them earlier in the season.

OSU loses to Michigan and lost to Oregon we both will have 2 losses and will not get the 5 based on H2H.

If our 2nd loss is in ccg, it will likely not be held against us. Regular season would be 1 loss against 2 loss, which would negate h2h.

I read on here all day yesterday if we couldn’t beat Minnesota, we didn’t deserve to be in the playoffs, but ND does after losing to NIU? I don’t get it.
Not sure why anyone would say that. Minnesota is a damn good team that is far beyond what their record says. Add to that they played an almost perfect game.

Go read the game thread and some other pregame threads, a ton of people were saying it.

I think we are looking at the ACC championship loser if we are the #6 seed.

Also I think the committee will go out of their way to avoid conference team matchups if at all possible
Trying to predict or understand the committee is next to impossible. There is not usually much logic to their decisions.

I don’t expect that to happen. Their win against Army won’t move people that much; it was expected. In the end, they still lost at home to a midling MAC school.
The Snottre Dome Broadcasting CO hopen and a wishen.

If A&M loses to Texas to end the season 8-4, it will really hurt ND’s resume as that is their “big win” (sorry, they may have a nice record but no one thinks Army is really that good given they have a weak schedule). And hopefully Illinois can win their last game to end up 9-3.

They might...I dont think they should but I wouldn't be shocked if they jump us if they dominate USC.

On what grounds? Our "surviving" Minnesota? CBS gave us heck for it, but everyone had us on upset alert. So, it was expected.

Or simply if they beat USC more convincing than we did? Could be possible, recency bias and all.

At the end of the day, we have a great loss to their worst loss of all contenders along with a better SOS. It just seems tough to give ND the nod over us outside of us losing or them winning 59-0 in LA.

Simply they see Penn State and ND as fairly even at this point and if they end strong against USC that's the final resume piece
I think we're better. I think we should be higher. I'm just not convinced we will be.

We should have just punched in the last TD.

Beating up on a team they have 40 lbs a man in the trenches shouldn't move the needle for them. They've played nobody and I hope USC can get rev'd up to expose them.

ND would need to win by 20 or so to tip the scales towards them…

If that happened though, we might get back in front of them the next week if OSU handles Oregon easily, which I think they will in the Big Ten title game.

Illinois in the top 20 at 9-3 and seven total wins over bowl bound teams and our only loss by 7 to the #1 team in the country? Sorry ND

Why do you engage with that guy? He was saying Notre Dame wouldn’t jump PSU if we lost another game. He even told me to check the ESPN predictor because it showed he was correct - except it actually showed he was wrong. Then he still claimed we wouldn’t fall behind ND with another loss. Now he’s on here saying they may jump us even if we don’t lose.

He’s just a lonely troll looking to irritate anyone who will pay him any attention.

If UGA beats Texas in SEC ccg (assuming that's who ends up there), I wonder if we maintain 6 seed over Texas.

Also, what if Oregon beats OSU in ccg? Are we sure the Buckeyes are getting the 5 seed?

If we win out, 5, 6, or 7 are all in play.
Tex has beat noone. 2 loss Tex should not be above PSU with 2 losses, but let the SEC mental gymnastics ensue. OSU will not be penalized for losing to the #1 team again in the CCG.

I think ND wins by about 30 honestly--hopefully I'm wrong
Illinois needed a miracle to beat Rutgers--let's home they don't flop next week against a really bad NW team
Ohio State is #2--victories over bowl eligible teams isn't a great stat. ND has 5 and likely will finish with 6 maybe 7 if we want to count it--no real difference.

2 losses to Georgia won't be seen as 2 losses
Same if Ohio State falls to Oregon twice
Don't like it--just what we'll likely see

If they jump us, which would be complete bullshit unless we struggle and they blow USC out, nothing will happen to get us back up above them later.

But that might not be the end of the world depending on the brackets, because it's not like we are on the fringes of a home/away game.

In addition, USC has lost 5 games by a total of 19 points! USC could easily be undefeated right now - easily. I'd be surprised if ND is heavily favored in this game - my guess would be less than a TD. You have to like USC's chances @home.
5 losses by an average of ~4pts doesn't mean they could be "easily undefeated." That's a major stretch. Losing 5 close games means you are lacking the ability to execute when necessary.

I assume the loss was early in the season?
Currently, ND has been playing some good ball.
Don't start preaching the S of S.......the selection board seems to ignore it as a non issue....today

Loss 2 is different than loss 1.

If we lost close to OSU and then also to Minnesota, it’s different than ND losing one game close to NIU.

But by that same logic, Georgia and Bama losing 2 or 3 games should also significantly ding them. But the spin doctors are still telling us to rely on the eye test (I.e. the name on the jersey and the past success of their conference) rather than actual results. What you’ll be hearing the next two weeks is this…

What would Penn Stare’s record be with Alabama’s schedule?

And their answer will be…they would have lost 3 games too!!! So how can you put Bama ahead of PSU?

But if the committee isn’t careful, they’ll destroy the regular season entirely in year 1 of the playoff by putting 3-loss SEC schools ahead of 1-loss Indiana…

BINGO. Watched the first 10 minutes and the physical mismatches made it look like men playing boys. Army being undefeated prior to the ND game is a nice feel good story but c’mon man with the attempt to prop up ND for handling Army.

It's called favoritism. Do a little research on sports writers and broadcasting people there's a tell there.

ND will likely jump PSU tonight PSU has been very average and ND is the hottest team in the country

Hottest? We'd look pretty hot playing service academies too. Remember the 60s and 70s schedules?
If ND had defeated NIU earlier this year the Huskies would currently have a LOSING record on the season. As it currently stands they are 6-5. And 3-4 in the mighty MAC.

That is quite a resume enhancer that ND has there on their record ....
