NLWC Golf Outing August 27th...who's going?

Anyone sticking around Friday night? My crew and I are staying at Toftrees and hoping a few others might be as well. Would love to spend time chatting it up with other fans and forum members.
I will be around Friday night. Staying at Hyatt. I'll be rolling downtown with my senior daughter (#5). As well as a couple of players in my foursome. Any and all are welcome to join. But you'll probably have to buy some college girls drinks!

I had honest intentions. I had Jimmy Martin do my total knee replacement June first in hopes to making the outing. All was going well and I was able to golf at 7 weeks. Any one who is planning a hip or knee replacement should go see Dr. Martin. All was going well but it turned out we are going to Ocean City, NJ to visit my daughter and Son in Law.

Oh well, I am planning on playing next year. I will work on my game while in Ocean City in prep for next year. I am looking forward to seeing family.

Like you, I scheduled surgery to be able to play. Double hernia surgery 6/17 which gave me a few weeks to spare to be released to swing a club.

I'll be working the 3rd hole again, a par 3.

Not sure if I'll be on the Tee or Green.

If I'm on the Green again I have to watch for the payouts for the closest to the hole or a hole in one.

Not sure if the wife is donating to the NLWC again if any of you hit me in the noggin this year.

Any openings left? I have a place in Hollidaysburg....thinking of coming up soon. I am 67. I used to be good. Now it depends on my arthritic back. Can I hit from the Sr. Tees? Not certain I can make the 500 mile drive and stand up but I think I would really enjoy a day with some of these goofballs :)

Fun times tonight at the reception w/ the Olympians. It felt great, after losing out on OTT, to be able to cheer loudly for our warriors. Had a great long chat w/ Jordan about getting Gilman ready--got the whole Tokyo story. Also nice to put a face to a handle w/ @tikk10 @NoVa Lion and @HOCKEYGOD11

Enjoy the links guys--maybe I'll get some clubs some day and give it a try (or is that my long-con hustle?).

Always good to meet a board poster in person. It makes them more real and easier to get along with IMHO.

nerfstate, I am envious! It would be so wonderful to live close enough to be able to attend such events. But alas, I must continue to live vicariously through good folk like yourself :)

Do tell re Jordan. Clearly he is integral to what goes on at the lower weights.

Sure, I'll give it a try. Nothing we couldn't have probably inferred, but:
  • They flew in to the rural area for acclimation--that was tough, adjusting sleep schedules, etc. They had an awesome chef where they stayed that they all loved. Loved the food--and it was equally good when it was traditional Japanese or more American fare. Jordan wasn't wild about how rare the Wayagu was. They were sad that they weren't allowed to go to local restaurants, stores, etc, which was not the funnest way to travel to a new country.
  • They had heard the Japanese people were leery of the games, but everyone in that small community was over the top hospitable to the point where they were almost weirdly rooting for even the likes of Helen and the other women over the Japanese team. He thought that was cool, but also a little strange.
  • Jordan and Thomas have been working on TG's finishes a lot in the room over the last year--he said Thomas' performance was all him, but he did see something in the way TG finished shots vs. the Iranian for bronze where he felt a little bit of pride over their work together. He was very humble, but we thanked him for his efforts.
  • When they moved camp to Tokyo, Jordan wasn't on the "list" that allowed him to get into the practice area--some of the training partners were on the list, so Yianni for instance helped warm Thomas up before competition, etc. Originally, their hotel was going to charge $20k/day to put a mat down in a banquet hall, but they eventually negotiated to $20k for the whole time, so then he was able to work out w/ TG more.
  • Similarly, Jordan wasn't allowed in the venue for competition--he watched online just like the rest of us--he definitely expressed some regret over not being able to be there. The people we saw in the stands were those who were "on the list." Mostly active competitors & sanctioned coaches, and a few training partners.
  • He really loved Japan, and the contrast of their original rural locale, and the massive city. The size of Tokyo blew his mind--he and his wife (not a Maddie/Maddy) hope to go back someday.

Thank you grateful for the response and appreciate your support of the team. Fascinating story, I was in Japan once on business, will take Mrs back when I retire

Unfortunately, Jeff was a last minute cancellation, or I'd have had a much better story to tell today.

But it was a great event and nice to see a few of you out there. I'm around later and available for guest appearances if someone sets a destination. Bordeaux?

Heading to Happy Valley Brewing at 7:00 for dinner, then probably Local Whiskey.

One more story to tell from just now. I live just off the 15th hole and it started pouring out. I hear voices and can see some golf carts parked underneath the trees, so I take a towel out and it's a foursome of Penn State wrestlers from the nineties (sorry, don't recall their names) along with Cody, sitting there telling stories about the Olympics, the room, and so on.

It's still pouring when the foursome behind them, which includes Nolf, hits onto the green (a par 3). So here's Nolf putting on a very saturated green.

@tikk10, thanks for heading down to Local Whiskey Friday night. It was great to get together with you, @RoarLions1 , and @NoVa Lion. Sorry I disappointed you by drinking bourbon rather than Bordeaux! None the less, it was great to put a few faces to screen names. Look forward to it again at Federal Taphouse on a duel weekend.

Great to see you and your crew too, it was a fun event, and a great day all around. Big shoutout to Ms. Bordeaux, who was a delight to talk to as well. For those who haven't met him, Bordeaux is exactly the guy in person you'd think he was from his posts. For those needing clarification, I meant that in a good way.

Ditto that. Lots of good wrestling stories to boot and we were all given the title of Wrestling Nerds by Mrs. Bordeaux.
