This coming weekend is the Last Chance (Olympic Team Trials) Qualifier.

The following weekend is the Olympic Team Trials.

Who goes and who makes the team from the NLWC?

57 KG: Gilman is qualified.for trials.

RBY is qualified but expressed serious reservations about making the "deep weight cut," as he put it. He said he will think about it, but also said he wants to help Gilman to make a run. It's more likely he makes a go in 2024.

Haven't heard anything about Josh Rodriquez of late.

65 KG: Both Zain and Nick Lee are qualified for trials. Zain should get the #1 seed.

The US has not qualified the weight, however. Whoever wins the spot will need to go abroad to qualify it this summer.

We could see a Zain vs. Nick match at some point. Nick has improved a great deal and has upped his game in freestyle. Zain, however, is elite; he beat Bajrang this fall.

74 KG: Nolf is qualified for trials. Probably get the #3 seed after Dake and IMar. JB sits in the finals waiting the winner of the challenge tournament.

Van Ness (PSU commit) is registered for the Last Chance Qualifier.

Joseph is not (yet) registered for the Last Chance Qualifier. Will he go or no?

Starocci is qualified for either 74 KG or 86 KG, but he seems like a "tweener" and there is no 79 KG for the Olympics. He did say something about the Olympics though in his post NCAA interview, I think, so who knows?

86 KG: Taylor, Nickal, and Brooks are all qualified for the trials.

DT should get the #1 seed. Might Nickal get a #3 or #4 or #5 seed (after Zahid, Dieringer, and/or Gabe Dean, if the latter qualifies at Last Chance)..

Where does Brooks land in the seeding. He has some good international freestyle credits.

Mark Hall is registered for the Last Chance Qualifier.

We could see some crazy NLWC matches here. Any forecasts or predictions?

97 KG: Kyle Snyder is qualified. I think he might have a bye to the finals (as a medal winner in the last Worlds).

125 KG: Kerkvliet, Nick Nevills, and Cassar are all qualified.

Cassar isn't going to wrestle because of recovery from an injury and surgery.

Cenzo has talked about going to the LCQ a number of times on the Baschamania podcast, so i would expect to see him there

Weird. Derek White went down to 97kg in 2019. Back at 125kg. Must have been a rough cut for him.

Looks like the trials ( at least some of it) will be on NBC Sports Network on 4/2 and 4/3.

Do you have a weblink for the announcement? NBC Sports had indicated it would cover the trials in 2020 (which got postponed) but I haven't seen anything about 2021. Maybe I missed it though. Thanks.

I don’t. I checked it out on my TV lineup for those dates and it shows up so I set my DVR to record it.

Zapf at 74 kg must be on the Bulk Job diet. Last year he wrestled 141 for Penn.

That's a long list. Here's a few with Penn State ties, if for no other reason than to skinny it down to PSU guys. Not even sure I got them all.

Interesting that they're doing it that way; I doubt many of these guys assumed when they accepted those matches that they'd be used for seeding. But there's not a lot else to go on, I suppose, so better than a coinflip.
Yeah--this seems like a major blow to the hope that the cards will continue moving forward (unless this is a "just this time" type of thing). I wonder how Thomas Gilman feels.

Snap predictions, all which will be wrong:

57kg Richards over Cruz
65kg Pletcher over Henderson
74kg Cenzo over Pantaleo
86kg Gabe Dean over McFadden
97kg Honis over Schafer
125kg Hall over Wood

At 86kg there's a possible Dean on Dean battle.

I hear they're doing true 2nd matches too--so you'll need to add a 3rd in to these ;-)

The top-2 at each weight class qualify for the Olympic Trials. I believe we'll see some great wrestling, especially as this tournament progresses to the later rounds.

At trials is Starocci goes 86 there should be some awesome PSU v PSU matches. Taylor, Nickal, Starocci and Brooks all in the same weight. Possibly Mark Hall too if he qualifies at Last Chance. WILD! Work the price of admission.

The last chance qualifiers are stacked. If I had to pick who from NLWC is going to win trials, it could be three guys, or maybe just one. I’m going with one.

Taylor makes it. He has to be a huge favorite but there are some interesting young guys and of course Ringer. Zain and Yianni will be awesome. I have Yianni but who knows. I’m rolling with Cox over Snyder. Really hope Cox gets it done. I want to see Cox vs Sadulaev.

You mean he's not gonna go 74 in order to get ready for 165 next year?? /s
