Iowa is off until Dec 29th, and so people will need to dig deep to keep the Hawkeye chatter and banter going this week. I have faith that we’ll pull together and get it done. 😉

The prospect of a PSU vs. ISU final is pretty tasty. Besides the obvious story (and associated message board drama it will inspire), there would be some really good matchups and measuring sticks . . .

141: #5 Bartlett vs #11 Swiderski
149: #17 SVN vs #5 Johnson
165: #14 Facundo vs #2 Carr
197: #5 Dean vs #2 Bastida

Honorable mentions:
125: Steen vs #18 Terukina
157: #28 Bearclaw vs Kraisser
184: #1 Brooks vs #4 Coleman
285: #1 Kerk vs #10 Schuyler

I know, that’s looking ahead, but still . . .

[a less-than-meaningful response in 3, 2, 1 . . .]

I think Cornell vs PSU is more likely:

Vito vs RBY
SVN vs Yianni
Several other good ones.

Yeah, the Cornell ISU dual will be a fun one, but I think Cornell takes it with relative ease. Wrestlestat says 22-9, and they don’t have any glaring mis-steps in the bout predictions. Of course, if Paniro can slay another topped ranked kid, who knows.

So what moved Beau all the way up to #5 this week? Anyone have a take on that?

Let’s not jump the proverbial shark.

Before we get the ISU/Cornell winner, some good matches:

BB vs McNeil
SVN vs Sherman
Claw vs O’Connor
Carter vs Lautt
Brooks vs Kane

SVN vs Lovett Round 2
Claw vs Munson

Th 12/15 - N. Carolina vs. Appalachian State (ESPN):
- 149: 14 Sherman vs. 8 Millner

This match will be way closer than what wrestlestat is "predicting". They have Terukina losing to Ungar which is more of a toss up, Swiderski losing to Cornella which should probably be the other way around and then has it been confirmed that Yianni is even going after coming off the World Cup.

- 184: 5 Romero vs. 3 Keckeisen
- 285: 9 Orndorff vs. 19 Gordon

Another sneaky-good matchup.

But....But......It's called "The Tournament of Champions"........OH wait......that's on FLO......REFUND!

I said this in another thread but Bartlett is 5 because 141s are dropping like flies this year. It's literally a little over one month into the season and there are only 4 more who haven't lost.

The undefeated ones are Woods, Bartlett, Alirez, Matthews (assuming you don't count All Star) Looking at our dual schedule, only matchup I don't think Bartlett is favored is against Woods (and why can't he win at home in the BJC?) Alvarez will be interesting but I'd take Beau in that as well. Swiderski will give him a handful as well I imagine if we draw Iowa State. I think Beau's time at 149 will help a ton because quite honestly, no 141 will physically intimidate and bully him the way he got beat up there (particularly against a guy like Gomez last Big Tens) Not to mention he is drilling with Nick Lee, Zain, Van Ness daily as well.

Beau is gaining confidence as he isn't physically being moved around by opponents. He had an uncharacteristic sloppy defense weekend against Rider/Lehigh and won both matches anyways. He realized how easy he gets to the legs when he shoots against Oregon State. The energy and speed he said that comes with not having to just eat terrible foods to weigh in at 150 is showing.

I do expect Beau to take a wtf loss sometime this season for the record (he leaves himself vulnerable in the 3rd with his style) but it's still night and day at 141.

Swiderski impressed the heck out of me when ISU wrestled Iowa. I agree he will be a big-time handful for Beau if they wrestle. It will be a really good test for where BB stands right now.
Yes, in my limited observations of him so far, Swiderski is going to give Beau more than enough of a challenge.

FWIW, email from Coach Grey on 12/6:
Next up on the schedule is the Collegiate Wrestling Duals, December 19th-20th. I expect to have our full lineup in New Orleans, including Yianni.

Of course, things can change.

So what moved Beau all the way up to #5 this week? Anyone have a take on that?

Bergeland getting stuck by the #253 at the time guy who was ~300 points below him dropped him 16 points and 3 spots, bumping Beau from 6 to 5.
