Bus ride to a in state city that has a ton of alumni where you wrestle a bunch of other in state schools. Not really the same.

I thought that John Smith's post-Reno remarks strongly indicated that the starters would be in Chatttanooga.
Seems like the Pokes strongest lower weight lineup, when healthy, would be: Picc, Fix, Gfeller, Boo
John became very good friends with the man who started Reno TOC. he passed away a year or two ago and i'm sure that plays a part in him returning.

Seemed weak, but I think you need to get different looks/ feels from wrestling the same guys day in and day out. Just a step in the process IMO.
I especially like the way Smith does things. He makes the guys make weight on the road for consecutive days early in the year. They have 2 duals and not on Friday and Sunday, but Friday and Saturday. I think they make weight 2 for Reno, but I am not sure. They have to make weight 2 times for the scuffle. He does not pamper them and he tries to get them ready for the Big Dance. Maybe the tourney was not the toughest, but it was consecutive matches and it was wrestling. Better than practice in my mind.
Smith does not wrestle in the room anymore...We have ELITE COACHES and NLWC to name a few to make our young men National Champs and earn a team Title as well. Plus get a better education !!!!
Ok State and Arizona State are like the 13th grade, few serious students would choose that over most other academic institutions

I’d be confident in saying COACH Smith is on the mat teaching technique regularly, is he a drill partner? No, but he’s a head coach , teacher, leader, and one of the best coaches and wrestlers in the history of our sport. Disrespect the school if you want, but John Smith is about as high quality character man you’ll find
he doesnt go live-but his drill speed is still faster than most

Listening to Fix, they said they've been on the road for a bit, going to No Colorado first, then right to Reno... Something to be said for making guys a little uncomfortable and seeing how they react in less-than-perfect competitive situations.
YES.....we have elite coaches. That said......any person who doesn't consider John Smith as an elite coach as well as and elite person......needs to oil their propeller beanie.
ALSO: If God allowed you to speak only when you knew what you were talking about......me thinks you would be a mute.
We really need to watch the academic snobbery. True PSU is rated significantly higher then OSU or ASU in academic rankings. PSU is also the most expensive of the 3.
Both OSU and ASU offer programs that are accredited by the appropriate organizations, that is the real key to both schools. When looking at colleges, a huge goal is to graduate with a worthwhile degree from an accredited program and do so as cheaply as possible. I believe both of those schools offer significantly more academic aid for outstanding students.
With 2 kids in college, being out of state, I cannot afford to send my kids to PSU, they both go to small private schools in PA for less than PSU in state tuition.
PSU is sliding in the academic rankings because they are pricing themselves out of the market.

IF going to Reno means they don't send their starters to Scuffle, then they should definitely have stayed home.

I do not know about other programs but Okie State has a really solid Petroleum Engineering program. ASU has lots of really hot college women.
Lots of hot women at most all schools, it’s a numbers game when we’re talking huge enrollment, sure ASU has more, but I saw quite a few at Psu during my stay
It is easier to appreciate the hot when their clothing is applied minimally.
and the heat is motivation to hit the gym without bulky sweaters to hide under
Penn State is a BELOW AVERAGE BIG school when it comes to overall general academic prestige.

Ah .... just back to the house this AM from cold farm work down in the barn. With coffee in hand, I get into my morning dose of wrestling talk on my favorite site. Yuck - the “better than Okie State” stuff smells worse that what I just mucked outta the stalls. I’ve had a few late night talks with John and he is very proud of what his University brings to the table. Check it out! It’s no less then what our school brings to Pennsylvania.
John is an icon of the sport, not just D1 wrestling.

While you are correct in your stats, the whole story is better told with additional stats. The more you enroll, the more watered down the student population becomes.
where is the economies of scale? Shouldn't tuition be lower?
There are so many factors, as to what makes a school favorable. One can find data of all sorts, and using any one to gauge a school's status or standing is a bit narrow-minded. We can find info on academics, cost, student safety, campus setting, resources and facilities, support and involvement, housing...even party scene, and attractiveness of the student population. Then there's data from recruiters, one article from 2015 that I linked below. Also important to some is the athletic side of things. I, for example, follow many of the Penn State teams, and know that others here do as well.
