On deck-Mat 6- DT vs Valencia

DT just teched Zahid Valencia, 15-0 and rode him for 4:00. Not much of a match.

Other notable results: Edwin Cooper Jr. of Iowa just got majored by Thomas Gantt of North Carlina, 17-6.

Chief... my prediction of a Jason Nolf tech or pin stands.

133- Earl Hall of Iowa State lost in the quarters to Anthony Giraldo of Rutgers, 5-4.

141- Chris Mecate #1 seed of ODU goes down to Ronnie Perry of Loch Haven, 3-2.

Andrew Long majoring and pinning his way into the semi's at the Mid-Lands.

149- Jake Seuflohn of Nebraska pins BJ. Clagon of Rider. (Sueflohn has that ability to pin anyone.)

149- Michael Kemerer goes down to #3 Seed Alexande Richardson of Old Dominion, 11-9.
(Iowa fans can stop that wonderlust... now.)

165- #1 Seed Anthony Perrotti of Rutgers loses to Adam Fierro of Cal Bakersfield, 6-4 in the quarters.

184- #7 Seed Abram Ayala of Princeton beats #2 Seed Jack DeChow of Old Dominion, 8-7 in the quarters.

I watched Ed Ruth wrestle Valencia in a practice match at the Sunkist Kids workout about 2 months ago. (freestyle rules) I got the feeling Ed was holding back a little. I think he could have TFd or even pinned him if he had gone all out. That's not a knock at Valencia. I just think he still needs more time to get up to the right level. Remember how Cyler Sanderson beat Taylor pretty handily in the intersquad dual when Taylor was a true freshman. That sure would not happen now.

That Cyler a** whipping is still on YouTube actually, stumbled upon it the other day

If I had to bet, my guess is that the best Brooks could do is lose by MD. I don't see him anywhere close to Taylor at this point.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Brooks gets teched. He's not remotely going to compete with DT.

One of the biggest intrigues is how Brooks is going to stall when he gets down and ridden hard. Zahid Valencia flattened out like a pancake while grabbing DT's fingers. DT turned him four times. Match over.

To bad Dake didn't enter this tournament. He is probably focused on winning gold medals. Makes sense

Too bad you had sour grapes for dinner, WildMan. You can have a 2nd helping when David Taylor takes apart Sammy Brooks tomorrow. But what Hawk didn't he dismantle. Derek St. John... National Champ... Majored, Mike Evans... Majored. Nick Moore... Majored. How soon you forget. Have some burnt Hawk with your sour grapes next time. o_O

LMAO! Turk were you one of the delusional few on HR who honestly believes Brooks will be competitive against the Magic Man? If so, I'm afraid any shred of credibility you might have had has vanished into thin air.

We're going to put buck shot in your sour grapes next time, WildTurkey.

Haha. FYI I'm not delusional about how good Taylor is. If Brooks can keep it to a MD it will be an accomplishment. I'm just glad I get to watch him try. Cheers!

Tanner Hall upset #2 Dhesi
That was a really good HVY match. A couple real good shots from both guys. Very reminiscent of Ike Jordan - Morelli. .......Dhesi didn't run for his life at the end and gave up the last second td.

Ever since Taylor showed up at University Park the Hawkeye strategy has been, do nothing and try to limit it to a major. Nothing to lose, figure somebody wearing a black singlet would want to see if they could do more than lose by nothing more than a major.

I always wished DSJ and DT would've stayed at same weight. DSJ was steadily closing the gap imo. Their scrambles should b watched by everyone just for hip positioning alone.

Didn't quite work out that way...and Sammy didn't turtle. He opened up and went after DT. I was pretty impressed with the mullet

I should have said... Alex Meyer was going to be taken apart... but I digress. I already mentioned that Alex was over-rated and that couldn't have been more apparent in being ridden the way he was. #3 guys don't get ridden like carnival ponies and show no offense against the #9 guy in the country. He could easily not be a round of 12 guy.

Sammy put up a valiant effort and from what I read he did try to challenge DT. Good for him. Sorry to hear Cory Clark with the knee injury, but hopefully shouldn't affect him in the Big Ten season. Hope it was precautionary to hold him out of the semi's.

Having watched DT/Valencia and DT/Brooks, it looked like the Magic Man was playing around, hoping to get work in turning guys (which he did against ZV, not Brooks). Maybe I'm wrong, but I think I saw maybe 3 or 4 actual ankle pick or aggressive shot attempts combined from DTover the two bouts. Granted, he basically spent both matches on top in full control....

And I laughed uncontrollably when Gullybon was ranked #1. The wrestlers don't make the rankings. The talking mouths do.

You raise an interesting point. What's wrong with having a ranking where the actual participants do the voting? I know there are coaches polls, but even they aren't the ones doing the actual wrestling. Seems like an easy thing to implement with the Internet today.

Wildman... Alex Meyer was the #3 ranked wrestler and gets shut out and almost gets majored by the #9 kid in the country. Jimmy didn't get shut out. Meyer was a glaring mistake in being ranked as I told Chief at the start of the season.

And Sport... Jimmie Gulibon will be ranked higher than Alex Meyer after the Midlands.

So true. This is why you see Iowa fans jump for joy when Dake beats Taylor. No hawk was able to do it, so they live vicariously through Dake's ability to beat Taylor.
