Been hearing some rumors changes are being made including with John, but it’s second hand. Includes who our new coach would be. Also some stuff about possible transfers and one guy already out (Thompson).

What I find alarming regarding the post I linked is that no one there has responded regarding the poster’s last 2 sentences. That would seem to be a big deal, if true. Nothing in the news, yet, as far as I can tell*, and it’s been almost 2 days since the alleged incident.
*Of course, if the subject had only a tangential relationship with the university, that might explain why I’m not seeing a news story.

Ignoring the rumors. Smith stepping down should not surprise anyone. It's about that time, Ferrari debacle, and even team performance aside. All good things come to an end. I thought it was going to happen last year.

It's funny seeing them talk about David being coach there. I think he's Cael's successor when Cael is done.
Yeah, Thompson sounds like a nightmare. The party culture in that program has been an ongoing problem - the kid doing coke at the Redneck Yacht Club, Gfeller and Joe Smith breaking “team rules”, the Ferrari idiots. Legend or not, if they want #35 anytime soon, it’s time to clean house because it’s rotting.
If I was the king of that world I would be going all in on Casey. I would try Chris Pendleton if that didn't work. I think Gilman will end up being a top level lightweights coach in the future and he would be on my short list of people to hire as an assistant coach. Bring Nolf and Gilman in as assistant coaches to Casey and you would have a hard staff to beat in recruiting,coaching, and shock and awe.
That's more or less the HR plan once they can TnT.
The switch from "living legend coach John Smith loses his job" rumor to "Dayton Fix transferring to PSU" rumor in milliseconds is so very this board.
Then connected in the next sentence with "someone in the party culture died this weekend" with no details nor any further discussion...

I have a feeling Casey is the highest paid assistant coach in the land (or second to Cody) and Cael is not in fact the highest paid HC. Gonna be tough to break up that band, but I suppose money can always do the talking. David is interesting--but I can't see him wanting to divide his attention in the next couple of years.

My thoughts exactly. He appears to be losing control over the program and he needs to get out to prevent further damage to his legacy.
One thing I’ll note on the 57kg/125 discussion. Daton really isn’t that big of a guy.
