Other Games 10/5

These upsets and whether certain ones are good or bad for penn state is an interesting topic. How does the perception of our team change and so on. What this illuminates for me however, is that we need to keep getting better and cannot take quarters or games off. Need to start executing earlier in games. I think ita reasonable that Washington, Wisconsin, USC, and Minnesota can All beat us if we don't play well. I know the game was never in doubt yesterday against UCLA, but we didn't look crisp
again and that concerns me. Slow start on defense, we tend to be good in the Middle 8 as Franklin calls it, then the offense sort of sputters for big portions of the second half. After hearing that our Oline was the best since '94 all week, kaytron ran for 78 yards yesterday. My point is, we aren't elite and it seems like nobody is. We don't have to be perfect, but we need to be better if we are going to finish with 1 or 2 losses.

I think the portal may be spreading the talent more evenly and effectively than we thought it would.
Yes and no. Washington got Pennix and Rogers through the portal. Where would PSU be this year w/o Harris & Kimber? There's no doubt that teams can add key players through the portal.

But now add NIL. I don't see any way that this doesn't increase the gap between the haves and have nots. Top transfers are becoming more expensive (thus PSU struggled to get a top WR).

Some of the upsets are by teams who recruited the bulk of their players before NIL.

I think that was one poster. The majority seemed to know "pump the brakes".

Not sure I agree with that. Vandy is led by Pavia, a transfer. I highly doubt they were built from recruiting. Vandy has typically lost every good player they've found to the portal. They just happen to back fill with some good kids.
