Just a small thing but I was very glad to see PSU and Rutgers players offering handshakes and words of encouragement after the game. I've seen this a lot this year and maybe Franklin has worked on it, but the Rutgers players/coaches deserve credit too.

Maybe Ash had trouble keeping his composure, but I was really impressed with both teams' players. Just an example, but you could see Chris Laviano go out of his way to find McSorley, and the two congratulated each other warmly. Barkley seemed to be enjoying talking with Rutgers players as they exited the stadium. That's the way it should be.

I think this is a good sign for college football. If the players show sportsmanship when the game is over, maybe that helps influence the fans. Maybe that will help all of us keep the proper perspective on this whole thing. This is a game played for fun and entertainment. Yes there's a lot at stake, lots of pressure, but ultimately these guys play football because they love playing, and the rest of us watch because we love watching.

When someone shared the video of Rutgers-PSU 1995, the one with McQueary's last minute TD bomb, the postgame atmosphere was just so cold. Clearly the teams were bitter with each other and no one was even shaking hands that I could see. There should have been plenty of congratulations to go around - that was a quality Rutgers team and they really gave PSU a game that day. But it just had this sour atmosphere -- and the coaches set the wrong tone.

I noticed that too. Almost made a similar post. I think Rutgres should show that video ad nauseum around campus for the next two years so that their fans get it through their heads that the players don't hate one another and obviously don't view it as a rivalry.
