PSU - Bucknell Match Thread

What a weird match by Cassar. Looks hesitant at times. I'll eat that L. Sucks that Rasheed is hurt now.

I go with the guy we know. Cutch is going to be a R12 guy. Cassar? Well, no idea. Today was really bad. He wasted about 40 seconds for no reason. He seems to score from counters more than his own offense. He has no idea when to cut a guy and when to work. He was outworked by a kid who isn't going to qualify for NCAA. We know we have a guy in Cutch, we should be going with that guy.

We aren't winning any conference or national championships in November. Maybe Cael is more worried about coaching up the guys that need it right now, eh? (You know, if Cael can actually coach)... Or maybe he's spent so much time worrying about what was in Mr. Lee's binder that he's just lost the room. We're doomed.

Bucknell's Hoffman is no slouch.
NCAA qualifier last year at 184.

Still, that's a match that the starting PSU 197 should win.

I think that L is a significant data point moving forward, in determining who wins this starting spot.

Not so concerned about the L, that really doesn't matter, but the manner. The fact that he got rode like a horse by a 184lber is concerning. If he has issues on bottom - and he well could, nobody has really seen him outside of freestyle in three years - that will lead to some really inconsistent results making the decision even more difficult. Probably a lot easier to get away with bottom issues at 197 than a middle weight, but still will be a problem in making a deep tournament run.

Hoffman outgrew 184. Still, Cassar needs to be able to get out.

Cutch was supposed to wrestle at Binghamton today and did not. Maybe Cassar is dealing with an illness/minor injury and Cutch was held out as a precaution in case Cassar could not go.

I asked about Cassar and for Cael's evaluation. All in all, not panicking, but there was a sense of surprise that Cassar wasn't able to get out on bottom. Cael said that's normally a position of strength for him. Also said the weigh-in today was somewhat of an issue, so I take it as it was a tough cut today after a Thursday night match

Sanderson said, he's learning that "it's not just the the wrestling piece. There are a lot of [other factors, like] having your weight where you want it. … so he just has a lot of little things that he has to figure out. ... We're very optimistic about Cassar and his potential."

One match.
Yesterday was Saturday after a Thursday (usually a Friday) match. It wasn't a light go. All of the other guys (except 125 and Keener) have been through the wrestle through fatigue situations the staff routinely puts on the guys as they build towards March.
I think everybody was probably a little disappointed with the way 197 played out. If he let his weight get a bit away from him in addition to training hard yesterday his legs and core were probably lacking a bit. Just guessing, but he will make the necessary adjustments and be pretty freaking good.

Caels eval makes sense. If he ballooned up after thursday, then had some homecoming yesterday, getting that off this morning and being drained makes sense. That he hasnt had to make weight in 3 years and maybe got a little complacent makes alot of sense.

not the first wrestler to need a wake up call. a non conference loss in november is not a big deal im thinking.

Is there a site where we can hear, see, or read a transcript of Cael's after-match press conferences?

anyone else look at the attendance figures....only 215 people difference between a thursday and sunday dual. 6320 to 6535.

impressive fan support, but I hope they dont make a habit of the thursday matches in future seasons.

We're addressing all the wrong questions here.

"Why isn't Cutch in, instead of Cassar?"
"Why couldn't he get out on bottom?"
"Why'd he take so much time to cut and takedown Hoffman?"
"How did Rasheed get hurt?"
"Why'd Cortez struggle to finish that single to the right side?"

We need to be asking ourselves, "Who is this hula hoop girl, and how can we help out CropDuster to sweep her off her feet?" THAT is the most important question from this dual meet, no debate. Everything else we can figure out by March. We can't wait till March with hula hoop girl.

FULL COURT PRESS. There... I said it.

There comes a time in every mans life when a girl with a hula hoop steals his heart. I remember mine well. We'd stopped for supplies in Oahu on the way to Iwo Jima....

I'm not lifting a finger to help until I see a damn photo, and a legit one this time. The previous photo in this thread was a cruel, sick, twisted joke.

I feel like going back and screenshotting a picture from the dual borders on creepy. All I know is that she could hula a hoop around her knee, another around her arm, and she could grab her own foot and put put it in the air.

Tim - Bo could not have nine take downs with a 16-6 score.

And for those who went there in person today....I'd add that her show was very impressive. That young lady was very talented.
