PSU Gets Rings.

I realize the bowl gave out the rings, but still think it's silly for a mid tier bowl game (or any bowl game apart from a national champion or conference champ).

And that's a discussion worth having. I think most people were just upset by a couple Buckeye trolls using this thread as an opportunity to take unwarranted shots at PSU... and I say "unwarranted" because this isn't a PSU thing, EVERY BOWL DOES THIS, many even for the losing team.

Agree with this...and frankly think they'll get more wear out of a t-shirt than that ring. Given the cost associated with making those, should just give the players a Visa or AmEx gift card to use on whatever they want.

Have you considered that the players might prefer a ring over a T-shirt or gift card? A T-shirt will wear out and be gone in a few years. What would they buy with a gift card? Headphones that will be replaced in a few years, when they probably have headphones already? A laptop that will be replaced in a few years, when they probably have a laptop already? A ring is a lifelong symbol of an achievement. Getting a ring is a tradition in sports, and nowadays not just for winning a championship. Athletes associate trophies and rings with success. Let the players feel good about their accomplishment. They went to the Big Apple, to Yankee Stadium, and came away with a great win. They deserve rings.

Look back at how the PSU players celebrated the win over Boston College. Had you been on that team, you would have celebrated the same way. Tell me honestly that you would not want a ring for that win. Be honest.

Also, a gift card is like giving the players cash. Would that be allowed under ncaa rules?

On behalf of true Buckeye fans everywhere, I'd like to apologize for the douchebaggery displayed by those claiming to be fans of my alma mater.

I doubt they're real Ohio State fans. Just lie cassie on CBS, he posed as a Buckeye to make them "look bad".

Respectfully, we just have a different definition of what should and should not merit a ring like that. You get rings for elite accomplishments, and all due respect to the Pinstripe Bowl but when 1/3 of the teams in the country will walk away with a bowl win, giving a ring out for that is like putting the "My Kid is an Honor Roll student in Kindergarden" bumper sticker on your car.

Gift cards or shopping sprees are frequently a part of bowl handouts. At least with that, they'll get something they'll actually use. For as hard as I try to picture it, I can't imagine a player wearing a ring from a 7-6 season.

Never have I seen an honor roll student for "kindergarten" bumper sticker. Also, my favorite part of your reply is that you spelled "kindergarten" wrong. Obviously, your parents never had one of the honor roll stickers on their bumpers.

Ha...well under the bowl system, I would have gotten a ring for my C average in kindergarTen. lol

What matters is what the players think, and I suspect the players are happy to have gotten rings.
