PSU guys in the Portal

Whoa.... whatchu talking bout willis?
PSU did not recruit Rocco, he wanted to come home and wrestle. We're not going to turn him away.

But DT has his boosters out in full force right now whispering "not so nice things." All's fair, I guess, but if you're gonna play that way and mess with the bull, expect to get the horns moving forward.

Id expect Ryder to be moving on rather than battling for the spot.

This comes down to how much of a perceived advantage there is for a kid's long term goals by being in the PSU room. If they know that they have to beat out a guy the caliber of Rocco to get a spot, but that being in the PSU room greatly increases their chances of winning nationals (if they win the spot) or world competitions either way, they'll stay and fight much harder than if they perceive going to the next place won't materially hurt their long term goals but will allow them to compete right away without competition for the starting spot. This may boil down to how well DT markets OSU as PSU West with all of the same structural advantages that PSU has. I don't see someone like Ryder going somewhere like Iowa or tOSU where they are grinding kids down and ending up injured and underperforming.

I think the staff expected more respectful competition given the relationship, but that's out the window now.

All good, I don't expect PSU is going to suffer.
What's "more respectful competition"?!? DT is being paid handsomely to win and get the program to PSU's level. That's what he is doing. I don't think it's disrespectful to try to lure away kids who have been essentially recruited over. If I were in Ryder's spot, I'd have DT on speed dial as this is playing out.

Ryder wasn't recruited over no matter what you claim. It just didn't happen.

The rest of your comment is fine, I'm just saying if you want to treat PSU as the enemy, fine, but I would expect it to go both ways at this point. But all's fair. You got to do what you got to do to try to win

But I'm not rooting for DT or OK State anymore, not that it matters. None of this - I hope he does good there p#$$ crap.

I mean you could absolutely turn him away. I think it’s fair to question the decision, especially when you consider Carter’s tweet and Zack’s reputation on the team. In a vacuum, the loss of Ryder means very little. You get Walsh coming in and Henckel offers every bit of depth that Ryder could have provided. You just worry about the locker-room effect. Obviously this staff has done very well in managing that aspect and deserves the trust of the fanbase, but can’t say I would have made the same decision.

Can DT use both Ryder and Welsh? I guess they have Thompson?

I get the feeling there’s at least one more guy at risk/having OSU offering.

Only other programs recruit over guys Penn St would never. Whenever a guy comes in its because they want to be there and no one recruited him. Some folks are brainwashed 🤷

Crap. Not happy about this. I mean, hard to fault Cael or anyone else for opening the door when a freshman finalist asks to come, but I really, really hope that Ryder takes a look around, has a few discussions with the PSU staff and reconsiders and chooses to stay put.
