Potential future PSU targets

Hopefully it’s not like Uncle Carmine’s basement
The rumous room probably has more clothes, JTS’ basement has less, atleast pccasionally. I would have to assume Uncle Carmine’s basement probably has less all the time, clothes that is…

Teag has dominated his way into the PJW JH State finals. The fact he is already at 157 and already pretty dominant leads me to believe he is a floor of a multiple time state qualifier/medalist considering PJW JH is as good as it gets for in state middle school competition

these kids g to many training centers so you think everyone they go to means they go to that college?this is for chickenman!
Just laughing at others (not on this board) who were predicting all M2 studs to want to transfer to Ok State.

7th/8th is JR. I don’t know Teag’s grade

Neither do I.

FWIW - Flo has records for him listed as competing in HS over the past two years (135 then 155). 7th-9th was JR high back in the day, where 9th graders could play for the SR HS fed by the JR.

I would guess he's either an 8th or 9th grader.

Yes, Teag is an eighth grader on the State College junior high wrestling team and does well. His older brother Tate is a senior but does not wrestle. Cody Sanderson's son Mason is a Junior on the State College HS wrestling team but does not start. We will see what Bo's dad can do with Teag next year.

What are the chances that the kid (Cael) he is wrestling was named after Teags dad?

I am sure there was a lot of pressure from outsiders wanting Tate to wrestle, but I am glad he chose his own path. It couldn't have been easy saying no to wrestling with his dad being Cael.

Hutcherson is a dude. Hopefully he doesn’t grow past 197 into that 215 range, but he looks special.

Is the seeding just really bad? He was the 20 seed and won by:

18-0 TF in 2:00
Fall in 2:27 while leading 12-1
Fall in 1:10 while leading 7-0
7-0
18-1 TF in 3:00
Fall in 0:20 while leading 3-0 in the finals against the 2 seed

Teag is talented, but not yet a world beater. I could see it happening, but only if it’s what he really wants. GOAT dad is a lot of pressure.
Reminds me of Dan Russell. He was a 4 time D2 champion at Portland State, multi-time D1 all-american and a two time alternate for the Olympic Team. He actually pinned Pat Smith of Okie State in his Okie State debut. Russell had his son stop wrestling because of the pressure, when his son lost, some people would brag like they beat the Dan Russell. Being the son of a Cael Sanderson or John Smith and wrestling has got to be really difficult do to people being assholes.

Of course, taking pot shots at Cael's kid, considering that Cael still can put a nasty beating on most people on the planet, is probably not a wise thing to do.

6 matches or is the 7-0 a typo?

It also wouldn't surprise me even remotely if a kid like this chose to attend another school even if he does develop and becomes a top-notch recruit that PSU would absolutely be interested in (with his dad's blessing of course). I can imagine one of my sons being willing to wrestle for me as the coach, even if it meant some discomfort with his teammates and classmates, but my other son wouldn't wrestle for me if I coached for the best college team on the planet and he had a full ride plus a bag of NIL cash (he loves his dad, but this wouldn't be a barrel of monkeys for either one of us, just a personality thing).

It seemed like the kid he pinned in the finals might've suffered a concussion on the takedown feet to back.

Someone to keep an eye on over these next few years is Samuel Sanchez of Esperanza High in California. He is ranked #1 nationally as a 106 lb. freshman. He was dominant at the CIF (CA) State Championships this weekend. He won his title match 20-0. His other matches were: 15-0, fall at 1:56, fall at 0:19, fall at 1:13 and fall at 5:42. He is the reigning U17 World champ. What caught my eye was a video of him wearing some Penn State gear . . . .

FULL COURT PRESS !!!!

Speaking of California States: OKST commit Ronnie Ramirez, 2x state champ and IIRC #3 nationally, got cradled up and pinned in the state quarters. Oof.

Is the kid from norwin, sucks he got hurt , I think last name is sudin , is he someone that would be a good get for psu in 27?

Landon Sidun will be recruited by all the national powers.

There are a few schools of thought on him. Can't argue his results -- but is he closer to the top of his development curve? He's built like a tank, and sometimes those guys get caught in college.

Also, he's short and stocky -- more Tomasello than Nico -- not exactly the body type Cael typically recruits. If he can somehow stay at 125, he's probably closer to Cael's mold than if he grows to 133. His parents aren't exactly Shaq. If he grows, it won't be vertically.

FWIW, a poster on ON3 said Sidun openly talks about wanting to come to PSU. Great! Except we've seen other highly-ranked guys who badly wanted to go to PSU, only to find out Cael was less convinced. So we'll see.

I'm pretty sure PJW just fills the brackets based on where you place in your Area Tournament, no real seeding involved.

Yup! Ahead 6-2 in the third Ramirez came up to one knee from the bottom position without hand control and the Buchanan wrestler (#9 seed) hit a beautiful cradle. That match and the Buchanan wrestler's win in the semis were the points difference that kept Poway High (25 minutes from my house) from winning back-to-back state titles. Poway did have a head-to-head match with Buchanan in the finals but lost. Had they won that match they would have won the state title by 1/2 point. Edit: The cradle has to be one of the scariest moves in that it really is the great equalizer. Carelessly have your head too near your leg and boom! Just another reminder how remarkable 159-0 is.
