PSU - Lehigh Dual

These announcers were advocating for a stall on Nevills.

I used to really like Lehigh. I absolutely hate them at this point.

Chippy crowd. They must sit around in musty places and practice yelling stalling. Weird crowd. I expected more from Lehigh

285: Nick Nevills vs. Wessel (sp?)

1st
Nevills in on a single, Wessel with a whizzer, and Nevills with a back trip for the TD, 2-0. That's his 1st TD in the PSU singlet! Illegal hold on Nevills, and blood stoppage for Wessel. 2-1. 1:21 left in the period. They are going to video review to see if it was a legal headlock which went to an illegal headlock. They are trying to show the move in question on the stream, but they can't seem to get it. Call holds. Wessel is up and out, 2-2. 1:10 left. Nevills nearly with a single, nothing. End

2nd
Wessel takes down. 1:09 in RT for Nevills. Wessel up and out in 8 sec, 2-3. Wessel reaches, blocked. Nevills nearly with a low single, nothing. 30 sec left. Not much action here. End

3rd
Nevills takes down. He has 1:17 in RT. Nevills works up and he's out in 10 sec, so he has 1:07 in RT, and a 3-3 score. Wessel reaches, blocked. Nevills nearly with a single, Wessel kicks free. Stall warning on Nevills as he backed off the mat. Nevills shoots lazily, and Wessel spins around on the counter, 5-3. Stall warning on Wessel. PD stoppage at 28 sec. RT under 1 min. Nevills upand he's out at 18 sec, 4-5. Nevills in on a single, Wessel fights it off. Wessel wins 5-4.

28-9, PSU

They aren't good. They keep talking about Nevill's "knee injury" when it was a pec tear!
Compared to some of the Student U broadcasts we have been forced to listen to they were "pretty good".

The refereeing at the end there was horrendous. Garbage PD to save Wessel from a second stall call and put Nevills back down

Welcome back Nick.

Nice 1st match for Nevills. He looks pretty active. Conditioning is not quite there yet. Match would have been tied if not for the illegal headlock call (which was legit, IMHO).

Conditioning was pretty impressive given the circumstances.

Thank you for the match recaps.

Rasheed gutted it out but jeez I hope there is still time to get gas in that tank before NCAAs.

Rasheed was just hanging on (stalling) at the end. Very fortunate he didn't get dinged. I actually understand the Lehigh crowd being upset about the 165 lb bout. PSU got the benefit of some questionable stall calls against Lehigh and non-calls against PSU in that match.

Parents visiting this week
- it's been great to have them come out. They've made a few trips, usually one or the other. They've been here 10 days. He told them to come to the BJC match against Ohio State. They're sticking around for the MSU dual. They are having a blast, and it's fun to have them.

Matchup with Bullich
- Coach Cael asked him what the plan was, and he said I'm going to go score some points. He's been working on a half. He likes getting more TDs, but it was fun to get a lot of back points.

Are you feeling as good as you've been in your PSU career
- I am confident. I'm soaking it in, and trying to have fun. Nico just told him it was their last away match. Trying to enjoy every minute of it. Healthiest he's ever been this time of the year.

Talk about the PSU fans on the road
- it's always a great thing. It's pretty unique to have a fan base that big and that loyal. I don't know what it's like to be on another team, but it seems pretty unique to be on this team.

Talk about Nick Nevills
- it's great to see him in the singlet. we were all excited, and he was pumped. we could care less about this match -- just trying to get him ready, and feeling confident. He's a positive kid, with a positive attitude. He's my roommate (along with Nolf).

Back at Rec Hall for Senior Night tomorow
- Tomorrow will be great. I try not to think how my last home match will be, but it's hard to avoid as it's Senior Night. I've had a blast the last 4 years. My parents get to walk out on the mat tomorrow. Lot of good things happening.

Stop. Lehigh shot about three times all night. Santoro and staff embarrassed themselves with the stalling chants. Their wrestlers were passive all night. Rasheed is a problem and at this point he is not ready for the post season. He was gassed for the fifth or sixth time this year. It's time to go with the less talented wrestler(morelli) at 165.

post comments, play-by-play, etc here as responses.

Was impressed with NN's stamina for first match back considering he was a pretty good opponent. What is the projection for how many b1g will qualify? Would be great if NN can qualify because I think we're in serious trouble at 141. At 165, I think you have to go with Morelli at this point - SR just does not have the gas tank to wrestle a multi-day, multi-match per day tournament. Morelli can go deep in a tournament, but needs to win a lot of low scoring coin-toss matches which is never easy to do, but still think he will score more in a tournament because SR could very easily lose back-to-back matches and be done due to his gas tank issues.

17-8 TD advantage for PSU

PSU is 14-0 on the season.

Dual against MSU tomorrow, which is Senior Night

I thought overall we looked slow with tanks at below half...... realize we/I have lofty expectations and lehigh was game throughout but that's my thoughts.

Nico left gingerly again.....

Hard to watch beckman these days...damn hard

JG...not even gonna type what my mind is feeling...nope not going to do it

Zain and nolf....nuff said

Rasheed is who he is at this weight

Mr Lawrence deserves to be tired that was a ton of action ....if he gets caught and decked I wouldnt be suprised....he just runs wide open.

Cutch is fringe AA which is what we need

Smack taking a victory lap love it

Nevills has AA potential right now but due to limited matches will get bad opening match draws but will do damage in wrestle backs for sure where the bonus he can get will be huge to title race.

If it weren't senior night there's no way Nico would be going on Sunday

Exactly. Kind of like Andrew Alton two years ago.

Despite the score this Lehigh team is tough.

They might have the most annoying coaches, though. They are unbearable.
How quickly we forget Mark Manning and Eric Guerrero. And Tom Ryan arguing calls, knowing he won't win, just to give his guys lungers.

We didn't think Lehigh's top assistant was annoying when he won a national title at Penn State.

Nickal took a knee to the boys.

Bo also looked like he tweeked his right shoulder or upper arm late in the third - anybody else see that? He was kind of "hanging" his right arm after coming out of the tie-up that went OB. He appeared to shake it off as he was more active with the right arm in the last 20 seconds or so of the match.

I'm not sure Nickal gassed, exactly. With about a minute left he took a pretty good shot to...an area that will knock the energy out of you pretty quick

Exactly right. He lost some serious mojo then and there. Can't believe so many watched the match and missed it. Sheesh!

I'm encouraged by Nevills showing because Wessell has looked pretty good of late. A month from now Nevills wins that match, and I think he looks like a good bet to get at least 6th at the B1Gs, which would qualify him for nationals.

That probably closes the book on Jan Johnson. Glad he got that first win under his belt to open the season. Seems likely that his last collegiate match will have been against Snyder, where he showed a ton of heart shooting even as the tech fall became inevitable. He'll have a great story to tell one day.

I think Rasheed will be better at the B1Gs and NCAAs than he is at away duels, with a bit of time after the weigh-ins. I wouldn't complain if Cael went with Morelli though, I think he's got a shot to get on the podium. Can't see how Rasheed can possibly make 165 next year though.

Mostly dogpiling on Dunk's comments ...

165 was the lowest energy non-HWT, non-Courts match I've seen in a long time. Both guys looked like there was no time limit + they got paid by the minute, with double time on Saturday. Rasheed would not have beaten Preisch today, the starter is much more physical and tougher on top than the backup.

Nate Brown looked like a national finalist today. Mouse got dominated. Still, the only questions I have about him are (1) Abounader, (2) how he holds up in a tourney against multiple opponents. He's beaten enough good wrestlers to finish top 4 with a favorable draw, 5-6 with a normal draw.

Nevills wins that match against a legit top 10 wrestler if it's not his very first match back. He's not in the greatest shape, but we're talking about HWT here, he's fine against most guys. NC State lost to VT tonight, which is probably to his benefit because I don't think he's ready for the pace Gwiz would bring. I think he can do some damage this year, but would be helpful to avoid a top 3 draw in the first round at B10s and at nationals.

Some guys on both sides looked like the Ursinus cafeteria catered the pre-match meals.

Nickel and Zayn both looked gassed I don't see how you can see it any other way I definitely was thinking the flu of some sort go in the first period Was sucking wind on the restart. But he definitely fought through it guilibon is really the only one that leaves me frustrated he hits that so deep but then drops his head to the mat never switches to a double nevels looked good just a little rusty but that's expected after not wrestling really for 2 years

And honestly, even if he does he's no beating Cenzo
