PSU vs Minnesota Dual Thread

Suriano appeared to be able to take Lizak down at will. Extremely impressive on his feet.

My suspicion is that this match does not prove that Suriano is "weak on bottom", but more so that Lizak is just a freak with how great he is on top.

Yes. Suriano at least got to his feet that one time haha.

I think the number of 197s that can pass the leg and scramble like we saw last night is smaller than the number of AAs in March.

True, but Pfarr almost invites his opponent to grab his leg, with the ensuing scramble to follow. Cutch likely won't be in on as many shots against most other top guys at 197.

Listened to Eggum post match - what an assclown making excuses that kids are tired and penn state well rested ......you got your asses kicked period! No need for excuses...you wrestle every day....going to next match after 3 days since last match, even a tourney, is no excuse. Yeah, and I hope your kids do meet PSU guys at Big because I don't think those matches will be "turned around" as you allude, except that maybe McCutcheon finds a way to beat Pfarr. Lizak stalled his ass off against Suriano as well and it wasn't called. Lizak was very happy to get off mat with a "close" loss, instead of getting decked.

The other side of his thinking should be that his guys should be in better form since PSU hasn't wrestled since early December. Couldn't PSU be a little rusty for not wrestling for so long?

that was a good match or McCutcheon. the question on everybody's mind was if Cutch could go up to 197 and compete. Last night's match shows he can. Even Casey in the post match interview mentioned how Cutch is feeling great as he is cutting no weight and they expect big things from him.

I would cut them slack if they were in school, but they basically had nothing to do but prepare. Whatever......on to Nebraska.

I did not watch the matches yet, probably gonna break down and just purchase the btn subscription today and watch replay. Was going to purchase last night but went to a movie with my kids and then straight to a birthday party. So glad I didn't, from reading all the angry comments from people not being able to watch the first few matches cause of btn screwing up the stream.

Anyway glad to hear all the positives from last night. Can not wait til tomorrow!

When the Goofer fans were screaming, demanding stall calls against Suriano - at least somewhat subconsciously they recognize stall calls are the only hope their kid had. If they had wrestled a 20 minute match Lizak was not going to score more offensive points than Suriano.

It's a little like that for Eggum. He knows deep down that no matter the setting his goofer wrestlers are never going to man up to the Lions (at least this year) and by rationalizing it he is acknowledging the Lions superiority.

Penn State could beat the Hawks 60 - 0 or 16-15 and Brands in his heart knows damn well the Hawks will win the next time and he has no problem acknowledging Penn State's superiority on this given day. Today's result is already past what is important is the next time and we are already preparing.

The difference between Brands and Eggum is one guy knows he will eventually prevail the other is felling overwhelmed by the effort required to prevail.

great post match interviews. Cael was candid and I liked what he said about Lizak being in the room when in Pa. I can Buy Eggum's excuse if he would have said it quickly (for the home fans) and not labor on it but he wore it out. Poor form.

Are there links to these interviews? What'd he say about Lizak?

You chose family time over Penn State wrestling?! Not sure you are going to fit in around here.

;)

Cael's got some post-match comments here (about 10:30 into the episode)

https://theguillotine.com/gg23

NOTE: This is NOT my Short Time show, rather this is my Minnesota-based show for The Guillotine, so we've got a local discussion about MN HS/small colleges in the first segment, then Cael, then Eggum. So the content is crafted for the Minnesota listener more so than my flagship Short Time program.

Yea, it would have been tight match if PSU had gone to the Southern Scuffle...... Ummmmm................., no.

I enjoy listening to Byers too. I just wish he was synced with the streams. Since he's always ahead of the feed it takes some suspense out of a match hearing what happens before you see it play out
if you stream both you can pause Byers (or the video) and sync them up.

Anyone know if Gable Stevenson was at the match? I apologize if this was covered earlier.

How do you find the match from last night? I'd like to see Zain and Jason's match. Someone mentioned that it is in the B10 archives. I searched for a bit but couldn't find it.

On my BTN2GO app on my iPad, in the upper left, pull down the menu and choose "Schedule".

Then you can scroll for PSU by week. Scroll backwards to "Dec 31-Jan 06" , then scroll down, and the match should be the last event listed on that page.

It really didn't end up being that long of a delay. It just seemed like it because they started with 149 & 157. Not exactly long lasting matches plus action that is frustrating to miss. Speaking of which, off to watch the replay of those 2...

YouTube clip of Minnesota highlights from last night. Too funny

That was hilarious.

Whoever produced that video left out almost all of the dual. They had to show everything in super-slow motion to get 45 seconds of "highlights" (stall rides & ankle diving). And they even short-changed their own team's final score.

Plus it didn't even show the single takedown scored by Pfarr or McKee...just bad! Minny looked rough enough on their own, they didn't need poor editing to add to it!

Yea, you know you're having a bad day when you wrestle for 90 minutes and you can only come up with 60 seconds of highlights.

spyker is still clueless.

Gable was not in attendance. He was in Wisconsin competing in the Cheesehead tournament with Apple Valley.
Grap, you ruined it. I was going to say that Gable was wearing Black & Gold.
