If anyone has to play their backup QB they're not winning a title.

How is Devin Brown doing it? So you are telling me there will be no one else that portals from the 12 teams in the playoffs after this. I’ll take it all back if no one else portals and Devin Brown gets left out of the QB musical chairs. You can have your opinion and root for him if you want. To me he’s a quitter and a selfish punk who is just trying to do a money grab. He is no NFL prospect.Huh? What? If you read his post, you'd realize he is going to receive his degree from PSU after this semester apparently. That means he has to enroll in Grad School for his next semester - perhaps he's been offered NIL deals that PSU is unwilling to match - this would mean he has no choice but to make a decision right now. If he's going to play for PSU, he'd have to enroll at PSU.... which might force teams currently offering him to go to their 2nd choice......

I’m quite sure I already indicated that he’s a PSU graduate. But players who have completed a degree still need to enroll in school, scooby - either making progress toward another Bachelor’s, or a graduate degree.Again, it may have nothing to do with whether he'll be the starter next year - what if he has been offered a lot of $$$ by several schools and PSU has been unwilling to guarantee a match. He said in his X post that he apparently has sufficient credits and will graduate from PSU - and that he is extremely proud to call himself a PSU Graduate.
That is exactly the money grab. I’m sure PSU offered something but he will get more somewhere else as a starter. That’s the only reason to leave the school that you have loved and have always rooted for. Maybe I’m completely wrong but I don’t think he’s picking his next school based on who has the best graduate Communications school. Without being an NFL prospect, IMO you leave to get a bag from somewhere else. How is he doing a "money grab" if PSU is unwilling to match offers he is receiving??? He can't make PSU match other offers, so it looks like he'll be going to Grad School somewhere else.

If he was offered money by schools, that would be a violation. Could have happened, of course, but highly highly unlikely and not worth consideration when there are less nefarious and obvious alternative explanations.
OK Nostradamus. And they're not winning a title with him despite his pedigree being WAY higher than Beau.
Yes the CFB calendar needs to change. Let the season finish before we have free agency, coaching changes, the draft of high school players, etc. Pribula could have played a pivotal role during this playoff run and enhanced his football future (remember Tua at Bama). Instead, he is bailing on his teammates. But the CFB schedule sort of forces the issue for many of these kids.I really think this rule has to change. Scholarship & NIL $$ should be tied to participating through the entire season.
Part of the problem is that the portal opens before the playoffs/bowls and closes before the playoffs/bowls are completed. The system invites this mess.
It seems to me that there are only two ways to change the schedule to fit that and those are (1) have the playoff be completed at least a couple weeks if not more before the spring semester begins at most schools or (2) push back the beginning of the spring semester at most schools to at least a couple weeks if not more after the end of the playoff. And neither of those seems feasible.Yes the CFB calendar needs to change. Your "another way" is disgusting. Maybe all of the jackasses funding NIL should start a pro league for these guys who are bothered being STUDENT athletes? Then the greedy owners can monetize their investments, but not from me.It seems to me that there are only two ways to change the schedule to fit that and those are (1) have the playoff be completed at least a couple weeks if not more before the spring semester begins at most schools or (2) push back the beginning of the spring semester at most schools to at least a couple weeks if not more after the end of the playoff. But there's another way that won't happen but I think should get consideration. And that is, stop making these guys be college students just because they play football.
You may think it's disgusting, but I believe it's coming. The BIG and the SEC are going to suck up all the teams worth anything, break away from the NCAA, and set up their own semi pro league. Just my opinion, of course. I'm all for it. At least their will be rules and structure again.Your "another way" is disgusting. This team could make the final on Jan. 20. The 5 day period would open the next day. That's when classes start almost everywhere, and a lot of places won't let you enroll after the first week.Selfish move. Team before self. You don’t leave 6 days before your team has a playoff game - doesn’t matter if your 2nd, 3rd, 4th string - support your team, do what you can to help them win.
If you’re that good someone will find you and you’ll have your opportunity after the season. But you don’t leave now.
A system where student-athletes play college football is fine with me. And a professional league that's a feeder for the NFL is fine with me. If there's a way to truly do one or both of those then I am on board.Your "another way" is disgusting. Maybe all of the jackasses funding NIL should start a pro league for these guys who are bothered being STUDENT athletes? Then the greedy owners can monetize their investments, but not from me.
That’s not going to happen. Universities are not going to sponsor those teams if the time comes where it is non-college football. But there's another way that won't happen but I think should get consideration. And that is, stop making these guys be college students just because they play football.
If he's leaving immediately, then get the hell out and don't let the door smack you in the ass when you leave.Man, leaving immediately? Not even going to stick through the playoffs? Awful
I think it was because of this exact situation and they wanted to preserve his RS while trying to keep BP happy. But in the end with DA coming back it is in his best interest to go. Will be very interesting to see where he ends up. I would have to think that WVA and sPitt would be solid options and maybe VT. Wherever he goes he will be a winner. Why didn't we see Grunk in action this year if that was true?
It's not about the money it's about being the starter next year. How is he doing a "money grab" if PSU is unwilling to match offers he is receiving??? He can't make PSU match other offers, so it looks like he'll be going to Grad School somewhere else.
That is potentially the price of a championship. Look at what happened to both Michigan and Washington this year. Only schools like Ohio State and Georgia can simply reload and contend. This is our year to get something achieved. We fail this season we are middle of the pack going forward unless our NIL game gets to the next level. Sadly without Beau we have less ability to beat Oregon, Ohio State, Texas and Georgia all of whom could stand in our path that is assuming we get past SMU.I wonder if Allar is certainly staying or is still uncertain. Beau decided he needed something clear and had to make the move. Hope Grunkemeyer has been getting the reps in practice.
If Allar plays real well and wins 3 or 4 games, I'm afraid we could lose both.
It would have been more impactful if individuals like Klatt took this stand prior to the season and new system being implemented.
There is a strong likelihood that we end up without a quarterback who has taken a snap and are too late for the portal. Only chance being other playoff QB's, like Ewers & Brown, or after spring ball castoffs. Will PSU even allow someone to be admitted after the semester has started?Maybe we'll have Ewers next year
Correct--and Beau also had that option
He's not blaming the rules
My guess is they've known this long before yesterday and Grunk has been getting the snaps in practice. Franklin may have decided that he doesn't want a player who's potentially not fully invested to his team and teammates, and would rather not deal with the crap. Football, especially QB is a mental game and no one can guarantee their ability to be ready, especially with all that Beau would be dealing with if he stayed after announcing his departure. It's different than retirement. It says nothing about Franklin--other than maybe he should have lied to Beau
Yes but his first choice was to stay at PSU and be starting QB for 2 years. Unfortunately he didn't know if Allar was going to return and he couldn't afford to wait and find out.Unfortunately, the time arrived for Beau to make a Big Boy decision.
Maybe but my guess is this is a new development and an emotional reactionMy guess is they've known this long before yesterday and Grunk has been getting the snaps in practice. Give the guy who's going to be here the snaps. Could you imagine what this board would be like if Beau fumbled the game away, or threw an interception after saying he's portalling after the game.
You don't know that. It's just as likely he was told he'd be competing with Grunk for the job and left.Yes but his first choice was to stay at PSU and be starting QB for 2 years. Unfortunately he didn't know if Allar was going to return and he couldn't afford to wait and find out.
This is the alleged scenario unfolding in Columbus re: OSU backup QB Devon Brown. Apparently he is going to enter the transfer portal after the completion of the CFPI. Does anyone know of the specifics of QB Brown's new destination? He could have told him you’re either all in or all out. And he didn’t want to set precedent for future players who announce their plan to transfer but “ i can still stick around “
There's plenty of time. Beau's agent could have everything worked out while we're playing. He's upset because he thought he would start next year and is jumping ship because he wasn't guaranteed it.This is the alleged scenario unfolding in Columbus re: OSU backup QB Devon Brown. Everything that I've heard and read since Beau's announcement of his intention to enter the transfer portal was that there was no time in between to 'portal' if you are continuing to play.
Plus, if I was the new team promising compensation beyond a scholarship, would I want to put my new player at risk in a game that he could get hurt and affect the future of his new team.
"I didn't come here to play school." This Cardale Jones classic was the words of a prophet. So how was Ewers offered $$$ by a b2g school as it was reported? If he's graduating how is it illegal for him to speak with potential Grad Schools he might be interested in attending?
A lot of good here but this has no impact on Vegas. He played about 5-7 snaps a game excluding Wisconsin. We go as far as Allar Warren and the backs take us. Not Beau unless he has going to become a WR"I didn't come here to play school." This Cardale Jones classic was the words of a prophet.
Beau deserves credit for being a PSU student-athlete in our traditional model. He also chose PSU and stayed when his classmate Allar was clearly #1 qb.
His skill set allowed him to carve out a niche and garner significant playing time. His grit is a nice change of pace and he is a proven playmaker.
All of which points to his "impossible" situation- which it indeed is. In the end he chose his personal goals over the team goals and his PSU legacy will be tarnished because of it.
I don't bet- but I'd imagine our Vegas odds just got longer. Beau was a great Penn State football player who is stuck in a hard spot. Tengwall's post points to the empathy his teammates may have for him.
But for a Pa Kid, with a PSU heart to bolt NOW is more than disheartening. I won't be a hater, but also will not be a supporter wherever he lands.
In the end he is no different than Silas Redd- "Business Decision"- except that he has a degree. If Drew balls out and declares for the draft, Beau will regret playing his hand as he has done.
But that was his call within the parameters that exist at this time- which will likely change in part because of him.
If Drew gets injured and Evan pulls a Taquon, all hell will reign down on Beau. "Impossible" is correct.
He made his best decision for himself. For people who invest a lot of time and money into PSU football- this absolutely sucks too. We shouldn't be forced to celebrate his Adam Smith move either.
Time to move ahead, and move on.
Exactly! He was very wrong. We all literally told him this.Lmao. And how many times did you tell us no players would leave before playoff games
I'm not wrong. I never said kids wouldn't transfer. Opting out is literally kids announcing they're not playing in a bowl game to enter the draft. CMC started it.Exactly! He was very wrong. We all literally told him this.
Do you have a link re your assertions about Pribula or is this merely your opinion? There's plenty of time. Beau's agent could have everything worked out while we're playing. He's upset because he thought he would start next year and is jumping ship because he wasn't guaranteed it.
“Unless Drew is injured.” That is exactly why it’s awful news. We are heading into the playoffs without a backup qb with game experience. On top of that, I doubt Drew has the greenlight to scramble anymore as it risks an injury. That takes away from his game too. It’s not a big part of his game, but he makes a first down with his legs here and there.I still can't believe anyone is upset with this. It's great news unless Drew is injured. We're not putting 2 QBs on the field at the same time and we're not breaking momentum by doing so. Best of all, Beau isn't good enough to be a starting QB on a contender. This makes us better next year with or without Drew.
