Some quotes from McIntosh....

Caught up with Morgan McIntosh after his third-place win over Minnesota's Scott Schiller. Some real great, insightful comments that came from the interview. Here are a few:

Recapping his tournament: "It's good. It's probably one of the hardest things to do is find the motivation to wrestle after you take a loss and you can't win the title any more. But you have a team that's counting on you and you just got to do what you got to do, and take one match at a time and get back. So it feels good to make it to the third-place match and get a big win like that. I'm just grateful for the opportunity to be here and wrestle in front of all these people. And thank God for getting me here. My knee was hurting so bad. This morning I was like, I can barely wrestle with this. I just prayed and prayed for the strength to come back and that allowed me to do what I needed to do."

On beating Missouri's J'Den Cox in consi semis: "It was good. That's a good win against a guy I've lost to, but it was just another match, one of the matches I had to win. He's a good guy. All of the respect to him. Same with Schiller, too. Both good guys and good wrestlers and it's been fun to wrestle with them this year.

"It's nice to get a win against a guy like that, but I don't really think about it that way. I don't think, I want to win just so I can beat that guy. I want to wrestle just because that's what I've trained to do. I want to wrestle my best and my hardest and do the best I can. I was able to do that today."

On loss to Duke's Connor Hartmann in quarterfinals: "I think I just didn't pull the trigger soon enough or enough times in that match. You know, it hurts to take a loss like that. You know you're not getting on top of the podium this year. But, you know, I've learned to kind of just put it in the past and not dwell on it and not think about what could've been, and what could've happened, or what I could've done. You take away a lesson to learn from it, but not dwell on it and have negative thoughts in your head, because that's going to really bring you down when you need to step up and wrestle your best."

How he responded from the loss: "I think if a national title is your end-all, your life meaning - if you feel like your life is going to be over if you can't get the national title - then, yeah, it's going to take a long time to get over that. But for me, I'm just here to wrestle as hard as I can. Whether I get the national title or not, it doesn't really matter to me. I still want it, but as long as I'm wrestling hard, I'm satisfied. So a loss like that is hard, but like I said, you just couldn't dwell it on it or have negative thoughts about it."

On the outlook for next year's team: "It's kind of been hard not to think about how crazy and fun and exciting it's going to be next year because we've had this year to focus on. Now that it's kind of out of the way, I'm super, super excited for next year. We have some really, really tough kids and I can't wait to be on a team with them and watch them go out there and kick butt as freshmen. With the young team we'll have, it is going to be a blast. It's going to be a fun last year to be at Penn State, for sure."

Re: Some quotes from McIntosh....

Absolutely a wonderful interview with Morgan. Fantastic read. Thanks Tim and thanks to Morgan for giving everything he had out on the mat. Super, super human being. It becomes so easy to pull for and love these kids. Awesome job by all.

Insight like this make it easy to realize why we love watching and backing our guys!! So many if not all just seem to be great people with their heads on straight..... they could help me!!

Morgan wrestled an incredible tournament. He was soooo close to winning it all. He has made a lot of improvements during the past couple of years and if he can keep that focus through one more off-season, he has a great shot at winning it all next time. Kudos to Mac and the young guns will have a great leader to look up to next year!
