Just tweeted by Willie.

Fantastic class with Hidlay, Rogers, and the Bullard brothers.

Response from Coach Dresser over in Blacksburg: "Oh
POP-y-cock!"

Seriously, good news for NC State, good for the ACC and good for college wrestling.

This further solidifies Martin will never redshirt at Ohio State.

Too bad, because he's not beating Gabe Dean.

The giant thud you heard was the reaction at Pitt. So close to PA talent, yet so far from escaping the ACC basement.

Also Tariq Wilson (2nd in OH States at 26, lost to Mitch Moore 5-3), New York State/NHSCA Champ Tommy Cox, PA State Champ Charlie Lenox, and PA State Placer Wade Cummings.

That's a heck of a recruiting class. They certainly have the numbers. I think you could make an argument for #1, but I would still take ours

Also yesterday got GA state champ Codi Russell, 6x AA lightweight who has won at least one of the "national champ" tourneys (I think NHSCA but don't recall exactly offhand). Looks like a 133-141.

Flo's Updated Rankings of HS Seniors
Tom McAndrew

can be accessed at THIS LINK.

PSU recruits are ranked as follows:

1. Mark Hall
2. Nick Suriano
5. Mason Manville
47. AJ Nevills

We have Mark Hall, Nick Suriano, and Mason Manville, and everyone else, does not.

End game.

(We also picked up A.J. who MIGHT be needed if his older brother remains injury prone this year).

Is he related to Sean Russell from Edinboro? He's from GA as well and I know he has a brother

In 8 out of the 10 weights in college wrestling, Cael gets the best man.

At 125 Tom Brands gets it, and at Hwy Tom Ryan gets it.

That's where it stands at the moment.

Bragging about who has the #1 recruiting class just doesn't make sense to me. Of course, chest-pounding and bragging in general never made sense to me.

Agree to a point - it's rather Mack Brownian (Mack being known as Mr. February for his recruiting prowess).

NC State, Arizona State, Michigan etc. are joining the pack now. The parity is good! Great for the sport. If my Hawks land a couple top 74-97lb recruits they will be in good shape for the coming years.

Another program with deep pockets.

I find it really humorous to see Iowa Hawk fans talking about liking parity in wrestling. When Penn State won the national championship in 2011, did Iowa think that was good for parity in wrestling? How about in 2012, etc.? Did Iowa sing the praises of Cael for bringing parity to this sport once he had success at Penn State? They not only failed to do that, but the torrent of abuse directed at Cael by Iowa fans, because of his success at Penn State, lingers even until today. The only reason Hawks speak about liking parity today is because they aren't #1, aren't projected to be #1 and thus they seek any means to bring Penn State back to their level; if parity can do that, they're for parity. I can assure you if Iowa was in the same position Penn State is in today, parity would not be anything they were interested in talking about. I'll admit it - I'm for Penn State world domination in wrestling. If only Cael could recruit (footnote - last comment plagiarized from multiple Iowa posters)!!

I want Penn State to continue to accumulate national titles, team and individual, and be the dominate program.

Desiring that dominance doesn't mean I can't or don't appreciate the nontraditional programs NCST, VATech, Rutgers stepping up to the plate.
I also appreciate Tom Ryan wanting to go all in. Nebraska putting a terrific program together. Missouri banging at the door. Michigan accepting the challenge and upping their recruiting.
Iowa and Okie St making changes to how they go about things.
There are lots of programs currently chasing wrestling excellence.

About the only one we are waiting on is the goofers. Maybe after they get that tshirt thing figured out they can go back to concentrating on training kids to be offensively minded, highly conditioned elite wrestlers.

Jammenz is saying ouch right about now.

Am all for many teams vying for #2 at the NCAA Tournament, with Penn State the clear winner by a good margin.

It's "good for the sport" to have 8 or 10 teams vying for the #2 spot, well out of reach of the Nittany Lions, who are perennial National Champs.

;)

Cael landed the #1 HWT Nick Nevills, and the #1 125 Nick Suriano, in their respective years

How do you give #1 at any weight when there are kids from 5-6 different graduating classes all competing?

Parity that is wanted by the home team is exactly what you guys said. I would love to see parity from #2 and beyond if Iowa was number one. I think everyone feels that way about their own team. I don't want parity to mean Iowa wins a title every 5 years. Wait, maybe I do want that :)

I think that is #1 in a given graduating class, like #1 at 125 pounds in the High School Class of 2016.
#1 overall from 5 graduating classes? sort it out on the mats ;)

I think we all have to take a step back and relax on the #1 ranking at a weight. There are those that are ranked #1 and then there are those that are talents even above the #1 ranking that I call transcendents. This is a dominate wrestler, who has barely lossed in HS coupled with elite athleticism that instantly comes into college places at a high level and wins NCs. The athleticism part is the key, because I believe the upside with some high school wrestlers is not as high. I believe the transcendents will win multiple National Championships. Chance was one of the few transcendents, who has not lived up to the hype immediately. That's also because of outside circumstances that unfortunately came into play, one being his weight control at 157lbs. I would also put Ashnault in this category, but he is starting to dominate with his recent Big Ten Champ and All American performance. I think I have the right to type this, since I'm a coach who has seen a majority of these kids since they were little and how they've developed over the years. Here is my list for the 2016-2017 roster:

Aaron Pico (Never went to college): Imagine the recruiting battle from colleges for this kid?
Marsteller was mentioned above

I think there are three transcendent HS talents in the 2016 Class: Nick Suriano (PSU), Chad Red (Nebraska) and Mark Hall (PSU).

Ohio State: Tomasello, Bo Jordan, Myles Martin, Synder
Rutgers: Ashnault
Okie St: Dean Heil
Michigan: Logan Massa
Nebraska: (Chad Red - 2016)
Stanford: McKenna
PSU: Retherford, Nolf, Nickal (Hall and Suriano - 2016)
Illini: IMart
Cornell: Dean
ASU: A. Valencia, Z. Valencia
Mizzu: Cox

There were some others that I'm sure you could argue (Nick Nevills, Marinelli, Manville, Kolodzik, Pletcher) and maybe a few that have slipped my mind. However, the above list has had instant success at the NCAAs and were absolutely dominant at the HS level and international level.
