Senior Worlds

you know she was much better after she left the NLWC for ASU before the olympics right? turned her career back around. not a huge slight to NLWC. her training partners are light years ahead at ASU.
JS...DM turk and let him do the FF-ing. I like your lane and his lane separated.

lol mark perry isn't at iowa either, so not sure why you guys think it's personal. it was just a dumb post haha. if i missed some kind of humor, then that's on me

but yeah, pretty clear turn around for helen when she left NLWC. ASU is just a much better training situation for the women considering the partners.

JS's point may be unneccesary to make, but I think it's totally fair. NLWC doesn't have a very robust women's program (yet). Paije and Jane are great, but as we can well admit, training partners are where you make your hay in terms of improvement, and Sunkist Kids is ahead of the game there.

Regardless--it's pretty hard, and silly to diminish Cael, Cody, Casey, and Jake at this point. They are the very best at what they do. As much as we want NLWC to dominate the landscape more, they already do plenty. Helen can pin her silver on Mark Perry if she wants--we'll be just fine.

I could be wrong as to the timeline, but I don't think Helen was at NLWC long enough for anyone to fairly associate the NLWC with her subsequent successes or failures.
Correct. She was only there for a month or so and was never a NLWC resident athlete. In any case she is still my favorite American women's wrestling as she went to my HS in Maryland and placed 6th against the boys in the large school division. Not PA but still impressive.

Regarding Amit Elor, here is what I posted about her a few months ago: "Imagine the potential career of someone like Amit Elor who only turned 18 on January 1. I am anxious to see how well she does at this year's World Championships. She was not challenged at either the Cadet or Junior level last year. In 2021 she wrestled in both the Cadet and Junior World Championships, taking gold in both without being scored upon. She outscored her opponents 63-0 in winning both tournaments. Here is the UWW link to all of her Cadet and Junior World Championships matches [Edit: now including her 2022 U20 and Senior World Championships bouts.] Amit Elor matches The sky is the limit for her."

Update: Since 2021 Amit has competed in four World Championships; Cadets, Juniors, U20 and Seniors. In those four tournaments she outscored her opponents 131-3 with four falls. [Edit: I went back and included the points she scored in the matches where she got the fall]

Where is the schedule for finals anywhere? Best Twitter account to follow for something like this?

No need on either side (hawks, 1984) to say what’s the truth.

Is this a weaker tournament without Russia and Belarus? Absolutely.

I’ll never forget the story of dremiel byers - it was a day at practice and Fraser was particularly ornery, starts talking about winning gold in 1984, what he went through to win it, yada, yada, yada, you know how coaches get.

byers deadpans, ‘you won the LA invitational’. Lolololol

what I will say? Zain is a completely different wrestler. He’s not shooting that D-in-the-dirt double anymore and he’s finishing on his feet. He still wrestled like the spaz you wouldn’t want as a practice partner - but his handfighting is actually leading to offense and wearing guys out.

The athletes have no control over who shows up to worlds and he’s doing something we all weren’t sure he could do without Russia in the field. AND he’s dominating. Wish baby yaz were in the field.

@USAWrestling is best overall to keep up--between their tweets on mat assignments and bout scores, to the writeups they'll link to. Justin Basch tweets graphics of the schedules and stuff, but not as much this time. Flo, Intermat, Willie all contribute meaningful info.

JS, Suppose you could say the same for Thomas Gilman after he left Iowa for Happy Valley, correct?
correct.

why are people thinking i'm diminishing the NLWC? just pointing out that they have nothing to do with maroulis' success because they were never a serious training destination for her.

correct.

I think Helen wanted to see if the PSU training that has worked so well for male wrestlers would work for her. It was great publicity for NLWC for her to rep the club during OTT but you're right, ultimately we don't have a super dedicated womens program with partners that can push her, Jane and Jen are awesome but not close to a caliber to help her get better.

correct.

It’s that time of year. NCAA wrestling season right around the corner. Tensions are increasing. You are not allowed to diminish or disparage anything to do with wrestling in or around Happy Valley. Cael’s disciples are watching and you will be admonished.

We need a "stir the pot to flush out the Hawk fans" emoji.
I'm a hawk fan, I like wrestling at all levels. Obviously when we meet I want the Hawks to win. Once it goes international I love all these guys, I don't care what school they went too.
My favorite wrestler just happens to be The Magic Man!
I'm rooting for everyone on Team USA! No snide comments please about us not having anyone on the roster.
Doesn't matter to me, of course I'd like to see it but it is what it is.
Penn State, Nebraska, Cornell, I don't care where they went to school.
Not only are they all fine young people they are amazing athletes.

What are you guys thinking on this Yaz Taylor rematch? Looked like last match Yaz worked on his conditioning some.
Taylor looks supremely confident though.

I think Zain is on such a mission he's not going to be stopped. He has Austin Desantos motor and gas tank with superior technical skills.
Scary!!
Don't think in any way I'm comparing them other than the constant attack rate and gas tank.

I'm kind of surprised we don't use the Folkstyle turns more often. Zain and Taylor have great success with it. International wrestlers seem totally confused and unsure when the techniques are implemented.
I'm no International wrestler though, I'm not even a state champion wrestler. Lol
Take my analysis with a grain of salt.
Taylor has abused former world champions with folkstyle moves though.
By abused, I mean abused. Just like Zain did today.

My man. I like your style. That's how it should be except poking fun about no HWC on the roster I reserve the right to snide lol. Just kidding
