Shane Grifith?

I thought this was pretty interesting: This thread is on pace to be the 3rd most viewed thread on this forum EVER. During an off season no less... For a guy that may never wear Blue & White.

Depends. When I went to Stanford a lot of professors and staff were leased properties by the university at incredibly low rates. Plus Palo Alto is a whole lot nicer than Ithaca.
Can’t say I’ve spent much time in Palo Alto. Have you spent much time in Ithaca? It’s beautiful there. It’s also on many of the top college town lists.

What's 1 and 2? Guessing the Suriano to Rutgers thread was one of them.

It makes sense though, Griffith coming here is possible (it's not just speculation, he's going to visit and is very likely considering 165 still) and it would be huge for a team race (we got 0 points there last year and can add the champ) Similar to Suriano leaving could have been huge for the team race. It's the offseason ... this is when these kind of threads run rampant.

Palo Alto means San Francisco Bay Area, which is a fantastic area to live in. So the real contest is Ithaca vs Bay Area.

No one thinks it’s odd that the school that was ready to ax TEN sports is (per Mineo) ready to drop $1/2M on a wrasslin coach ?!
You can’t figure it out from the outside. Axing and un-axing is already odd. They are a private school with tons of money. Only an inside report will explain it.

To me, it's a nice area to visit. My sisters live there and I lived with them for a good while years ago and never had the desire to become a permanent resident.

I feel like it would be Mike Grey’s to lose— in my mind, he is the best assistant coach in America not named Cunningham or Sanderson.

I could see Dake becoming an assistant, but probably not until he feels like he’s done wrestling.
Cael recruiting vs Mike Grey is the equivalent of a Nimitz-class Carrier vs the Nina, Pinta and the Santa Maria

Yep.
The current Twitter thread is the all time most viewed, and one of the Suriano threads from 2017 is #2.

I think it's safe to say this forum, just like the Team itself, has a HUGE following even in the off season which is rather impressive.

We're in pretty uncharted territory. Last year was the first year Cael at PSU didn't punt (though there really was no reason to since it was a free year) and didn't win. Obviously, Cael still gave fans quite a fun ride and stole the show but you know he was not happy about it. Thus, this offseason will be heavy discussions on what Cael does to defeat Iowa next year. Pretty obvious the portal is a strong option.

Comparing any other coach with Cael’s ability to recruit doesn’t seem fair right now. do you think Grey would be a significant drop off from Koll? I don’t.

I didn’t find it to be that fantastic when I lived there. Now, I wasn’t in Palo Alto, right near the University either, do there’s that.

FYI - do a little research about the careers of Brett and Clinton Matter whose father is none other than Andy Matter from Penn State. Both Brett and Clinton went to Penn and followed up by going to the Wharton school of business which is one of the premier MBA programs in the US. They ended up doing pretty well and their wrestling background certainly didn't hurt either. They received some good mentorship from former Penn wrestler, Dave Pottruck who was the past president of Charles Schwab.
Schwab? He owes me money...

This was also on that thread:

"Didn't Rob interview with Penn State about a dozen years ago? He didn't leave then, either.

He'd have to be pretty disgusted with Cornell and the Ivy League to move to California. I don't think he's there yet."

Considering that residential property goes for $1500-$2000 per sq.ft. in the Palo Alto area vs. ~ $125 per sq. ft. in Ithaca, A $400k salary might be a pay cut.
I live in a modest split entry home ( screwed up thinking my wife's family had more money). #1 son lives in San Francisco. He married a girl who has two relatives, one being an inlaw, who are both highly respected professors at Stanford. My wife attended an event at these two professors house in Palo Alto. When she returned home she told me our little house was larger then theirs.

Apparently Our House is a very very very fine house.

Unfortunately Dog, San Francisco "was" a fantastic city. Going back to 1984 I have been there dozens of times for work, pleasure and family. I used to tell people before you die, you must visit there.

The city is now a shit hole. Proposition 47 has individuals robbing stores blind with no repercussions. Homeless have taken over. Unfortunately many are mentally ill. The city spends $100s of millions on that issue but simultaneously has the welcome mat out attracting more.

Last year San Francisco had 257 covid deaths but 697 overdoses deaths.

Again it became really bad in the last 3 years. I hope the City leaders come around and fix the problem that they let get out of hand.

I can't speak about Palo Alto, it may be wonderful.

Yeah, I can’t say you’re wrong about the City itself. I don’t like going there anymore. It needs a Times-Square type of anti-“broken windows” clean up, for sure.

The Bay Area and nearby is still good overall. It has great restaurants, hiking, kayaking, cycling, skiing, cultural events, and incredible variety of natural environments, and great teachers and coaches for every type of cultural or educational or athletic activity for kids. And it has a high concentration of intelligent, friendly people. The people are waaaay friendlier and less pretentious than the Southern Californians, on average.

Palo Alto is congested and unremarkable.

Yah, the wifey and I moved out of the Bay Area because we wanted more than just a #1 son. So damn expensive!!!

What I miss the most out of the South Bay (besides the most ideal weather in the World), is the restaurants. A UN kaildescope of ethnic finery.

The cuisine in the Bay Area is second to none. Absolutely mind blowing restaurant scene going on there. Where else in the world can you scarf down traditional Bhutanese fare for lunch, enjoy pisco sours with dinner at a Peruvian cafe, and cram an afternoon surf session in between?

Everything sounds good except the chumming for sharks part.

A well known large corporation gave me a very lucrative offer for a position in the Bay Area doing what would have been very interesting work. My wife and I mulled it over for a while, but we decided to pass because we didn't think it was in our best interests to live there. Our primary concern was financial although some of the other problems mentioned above were also a consideration.

We opted for the desert instead. The Bay Area has a lot of attractions as Dogwelder said, but so does the desert provided that you find it enjoyable eating dust while bouncing around in a dune buggy! Overall, we're pretty satisfied with our choice. I think CA has already seen its best days come and go. Now, more people are leaving than are moving in. I would advise any potential Stanford coach to keep that in mind.

I lived in Monterey for a little bit and visited SF a few times. Did some paragliding and paramotoring (best in the country, IMHO). Some of the best times of my life. But too expensive. Now, it's only to visit.

If you need to have a paid poop patrol for your city.. it has officially become a shit hole..
