Spencer Lee forfeiting out the rest of the tourney.

I just spent a few minutes on the Iowa board and am ashamed of those PSU fans who danced on the grave. We need to have more class than to pile on to people who, as fans, are really hurting.

I get you, but while you are over there do a search for posts with "Ped State", "Slush Fund", "Steroids" and any posts from a guy named IronBird or one with Vodka in his name. Some deserve the pain. Most don't.

My opinion:

Does anyone actually believe that he isn't wrestling because of an injury? Had he not been turned and pinned at the end of his match yesterday, does anyone believe he wouldn't be out there tonight? I certainly don't. I actually feel bad for him but I am not surprised he made that decision. I am sorry that he can't find the stength of charachter to go on the mat today and finish his career as the true champion that he has been. He will always have to live with the fact he lost his last collegiate match. Personally I think that says something about his charachter. He doesn't owe anything to anybody but himself. I just think that someday in the future he is going to regret not trying to finish as the champion that he has been.

This is so well said. What amazed me most about his career, is he won 95% by dominating on top with bar arm tilts, and bar and half nelsons. Everyone knew it was coming, including incredibly high level wrestlers and they couldn't stop it. He was a joy to watch. Following him through his high school career, and I saw and heard about things that made me question him a bit, but, I always chocked it up to competitive spirit.

All that said, his not wrestling today is embarrassing to me, and hurts his legacy. I'm sure the Iowa PR team will be all over it and come up with something. No one can tell me that he wouldn't have wrestled in the finals, if he had won.

There are tons of kids that wrestled in today's consolations with injuries (probably more than those that were healthy). He also couldn't even show up to support his teammates? He lost a LOT of my respect (not that he likely cares, nor should he).

If he doesn't show up on the podium tonight, it goes to another level of embarrassment, in my opinion, which was never asked for.

Lol. Those db are still posting all the pedo shit and deserve everything they get, I hope they are hurting real bad and enjoy dancing on their graves,.

Contrast Lee with Max Dean. Max lost a disappointing match and then did his best in the rest of the tourney. Dean has character fostered by Cael. Lee is a self-centered crybaby mentored by Brands. If Lee would have chosen to stay local and wrestle for Cael he would likely be a 4X national champ and would be healthy and happy.
Max has character fostered by his parents. Further molded by Cael. Pretty cool to see how they like PSU even after Bo beat Gabe.

Larry Lee is a dirt bag. His mom seems like an emotional fruit loop. The Brands Bros are what they are. Spencer has absolutely zero mental fortitude by MFF out of the tournament. What a slap in the face to his teammates who were all working hard to place on the backside. Especially Warner. He easily could have mailed it in, but fought back for 5th.

If he is physically hurt, that's different. But he seemed fine till that moment.

Honestly he should just hang it up. I'll be shocked if he ever makes an Olympic or World team. His body is broken and he just doesn't seem to have it mentally.

The thing I think most of us are missing is the pure pain and high level of difficulty involved in wrestling with skin tears across your shoulder blade areas.

Just saying.

Forget comparisons to Jason ... Lee is now probably the 7th best Hawk ever.

6 others were 3x champs/4x AAs: Lincoln McIlravy, Ed Banach, Tom Brands, Barry Davis, Joe Williams, Jim Zalesky.

McIlravy was a 4x finalist, so definitely above Lee. The others ... I'm too lazy to look up their 4th podium finishes, but probably higher than 6th.

Also, all except Zalesky were Olympic or World medalists (Banach and Brands champs).

On the top 50 NCAA tourney scoring list with Lee's points updated:
3 Banach
16 McIIravy
18 Zalesky
18 Lee
22 Brands
26 Williams
37 Davis

Oh; that’s a feeling I know well. In fact, I would say I’m probably the board expert on that subject

Everyone that competes in the sport as family, friends, those that Walter, and those people really want to Luanne. When they lose, they feel the pain is their friend family member. He is no more better or special to anyone else and I don't care that he's going Straight tile. Be a lot of guys on the way home some dreams, and they had to learn to deal with it.
As for fans, Busting balls that's not usually my style, but peoples done it to me and people continue to do it forever. If you can't handle that part get a different hobby.

Shouldn't you be over there on HR kissing all of the Iowa fans' asses and pretending to be some kind of insider on the Sandusky case. Jackass.

ah. sorry. I just missed it among the supportive posts. There is nothing good about this. He may have his own demons, and that's bad. I find this insulting to those who fight hard for medals. You don't have to be happy about not being the champ but you wrestle.... That's what wrestling is. Meanwhile Griffith, Dean, Lewis are like "hold my beer" Can't imagine their bodies are in tip top shape. How about Fix? 3 times he sniffed it and won't even wrestle tonight....but here he is this morning fighting back.
There is no enjoyment in my position. It's sadness for the message that was just sent by the FF
Agree 100%. I am disappointed as well.

Assuming he would have been healthy enough to wrestle the finals, he should have been healthy enough to wrestle for third. Not a good look for someone who apparently has coaching ambitions. Unless he is truly injured and absolutely cannot wrestle (which I have not seen any evidence), Spencer's message is: I lost so I quit and I am too good for a third place medal. Not very inspirational.

McIlravy (love that last name - kinda makes me think of a raving lunatic) was also 1-1-2-1.
He’s my favorite Iowa wrestler of all time and was part of one of the best matches of all time as well. McIlravy vs Abas was such an entertaining match. I had never seen a boot scoot until McIlravy and I thought it was the coolest move I had ever seen. He wrestled the true Iowa style. Always moving forward with tons of pressure but putting up tons of points as well

In the past I went a few times to HR. I finally left, not because of what Iowa fans wrote, but because of what some obnoxious things PSU fans wrote. It made me ashamed for PSU, and I couldn't read any more of it. PSU fans that post ugly things elsewhere may get a few kicks out of doing it, but it reflects badly on PSU. Don't we have enough to make us happy with not only what our guys do, but the classy way most of them handle themselves. We should do the same!
I have not been to HR much that I recall, I've just heard a lot of things about it. If we have people doing that those probably aren't real wrestling fans who understand the sport. Or maybe they are people who think that wrestling started in year 2 of Cael at PSU. I may make a joke or two about the Brands brothers, but all-in-all I have a lot of respect for Iowa's tradition and history and in my lifetime that program is still the measuring stick. The fact that Iowa is still competitive (Okie State has trailed off quite a bit) but can't close the gap just underscores what a great job Cael and his staff are doing at Penn State. I have no problem with any Hawkeye fan who wants to have legitimate conversations about wrestling even when we may disagree good-naturedly on some things. But I do have a problem with those who want to paint good people with a bad brush to make themselves feel better when their program doesn't win. I'd say it's just a fringe over there, but supposedly a top donor for Iowa's wrestling room seems to be one who falls into that camp. For those kinds of people, I'm glad Spencer lost to a guy who didn't even win the championship, then didn't even bother to finish out the tournament. For the decent Hawk fans, I do feel bad. Seeing a fan favorite like RBY lose his last match takes a little bit of the joy out of the team championship. But even though we only had 2 champs tonight, there's plenty for us to look forward to next year, including the possibility of 2 wrestlers going for their 4th title. Things don't look quite as rosy for Iowa at the moment and Lee's loss means a lot more because they had so much invested in him winning #4. There's no "yeah, but we had a 4-timer" moment for Iowa fans. And no champs at all.

Seriously?
Move the bullshit along..
Keep it light or I'm banning everyone except JTS,
aint nobody got time for that GIF

Just need to remind, regarding Dean, Nolf as examples of what the appropriate response is:

Every other wrestler has the appropriate response. Literally. Every match down thru HS, To elementary. Everyone is the example.

THE GOAT would have wrestled in the backside. A goat does not.
The GOAT never had to. All, but one of the many "one" of the Goats have sucked it up and wrestled the backside.

I have no problem with Lee MFFing out of the tournament. There were plenty of MFFs on the backside. Lee's points were not needed for a team trophy, anything less than a championship was meaningless to him. Why risk more injury for what is essentially meaningless matches?

Last year Kerk MFFed the 3rd place match because the team trophy was clinched.

Reality is, just about everybody still wrestling on Saturday is nursing some kind of injury.
