Spencer Lee forfeiting out the rest of the tourney.

Yeah you’re right. Completely normal reaction to a wrestling match. I see it every day…

That being said, I love how Cael Sanderson preaches to his his kids that there’s so much more to life than wrestling. The way he told one of his young wrestlers still
pathetic even for you. not a normal reaction and not a normal match. kid's gone through 4 serious injuries, hundreds of hours of rehab to get to this moment. had a 4 point lead with 30 seconds and made a mistake and the whole thing falls apart in an instant. so yeah, she was beside herself. she's been with him through all of it.

taking enjoyment in the pain of another person is the definition of cruelty. you are cruel and a hypocrite. HR has some garbage posters. I've never seen any of them celebrating the pain of a mother on TV after her son lost.

It’s physics: piling on Spencer is an equal and opposite reaction to all of the goat talk.
Yeah JS is being a bit sensitive with this. He was ok having Spencer and the Lees all over the tv, internet and just about everywhere…. Now he’s not enjoying the attention so much. They pretty much asked for this. I didn’t see Yanni and his parents plastered all over the place all season. Maybe they were smart enough to realize what could happen. For christs sake… I saw what could happen all year. I almost predicted things were gonna come crashing down for them.

Blah blah blahhh. Btw JS, your opinion of me means nothing. The day you went around spreading garbage that I was wishing for injuries to your athletes or that was wishing your 6th and 7th year guys experiencing burnout and HEW, I lost total respect for you. So yeah, let’s talk about being pathetic you piece of shit.

It's not Spencer's fault he was the face of the most popular program in the country and then he won a title on two torn ACL's that became a national story. He's never been a self-promoter, especially compared to guys like RBY and Starocci for example who were much more focused on building a brand.

The truth is that you're bitter he didn't stay home and have harbored a grudge about it and now are piling on because you enjoy he lost. That is mostly fine. Enjoying his loss is extremely fair. Make fun of him getting ragdolled all you want. Making fun of his distraught mother is classless and cruel.

I don't have a problem at all with mom's reaction. It was authentic and spontaneous. I don't take pleasure in her pain.
But fame is a two edged sword that has cut many before and will again. If Carter loses next year, he better expect some blow back. he will have had it coming.
If Caitlin Clark misses a layup to lose an NCAA Championship, she would suffer a similar fate. We just aren't that fan base, so we would be unaware.

Even worse when some meathead idiot is yelling that you just don't like tough wrestling, ehh?

We can go round and round with this all day. Your (and HR's) lack of introspection to see why this is so easy to pile on is why it will continue to be piled on.

Excuses to be cruel because it feels good. We teach our children better morality than that.

To be fair, no 3-timer going for a 4th has ever lost before, so she's the only mother to ever experience this emotion.

Yeah real bitter. PSU won 3 national team titles with Spencer at Iowa. Yeah… I’m real bitter. I also got to enjoy not 1 but 2 3 timers(same as Spencer) and that was just Saturday night. Yep… bitter. Look JS, I know you’re struggling real hard right now to find just one way to have one over on PSU fans but Spencer going to Iowa isn’t one of them. He went there but in state college it was business as usual.

Maybe the Lees should have taught Spencer there’s more to life than Sports. Also that kid had to have so much pressure on him not only from fans but quite obvious now his parents as well with a reaction like that. It is now my contention that with the injuries to his knees and what had to be going on his head for the past 5 years, Spencer with those issues to deal with winning 3 titles is 100 times more impressive to me than a Spencer with none of those issues winning 4.

His mom? Really that's pathetic. She was distraught her son lost. She broke her own glasses. She didn't scream at anyone or disrespect anyone. The fact that went viral and people like you are piling on about it or judging her is a testament to the cruelty of human beings.
A big part of what made this go viral was how absurd it was. I mean, what did those glasses ever do to her to deserve that? I was waiting for her to start scratching her eyes out next. LOL.

wtf are you even talking about? at no point have the Lee's said anything like wrestling is the only thing that matters.

I'm a lifelong Flyers fan. To be honest, Spencer Lee reminds me a lot of Eric Lindros - the greatest natural talent at his sport for his generation who was never able to achieve his goals because of a combination of injuries, toxic parents, and a mismanaged program that put too much pressure on him alone.

JS preaching morality. Lmao. This is the same guy accusing a Oenn State fan of hoping for injuries towards Hawkeye wrestlers.
celebrating a mother in pain isn't exactly making me think you're a stand up guy.

being cruel feels good to some people. just own it. you resent the attention spencer got and the goat talk so now you're reveling in his and his family's pain

There's so much delicious irony in someone rooting defense of any of this because of cruelty, when that entire outfit in Iowa City revels in cruelty when it's the other guy. Between the Brands schtick, Excuses Are For Wusses, and the fans that boo opponent injuries. Then to make it about some grand defense for morality.

Bro, couldn't be less aware if you tried, JS.

I'll add my opinion because I'm loaded with them. I've seen all lot of cruel things in this world. Poking fun at a lady that crumbled and spiked her glasses on national TV isn't one of them. Also the jokes on this board... she'll never see them.

Pretty sure that post my very first on the subject although I could be wrong. If true, go back to my original post and point out exactly where I made fun of her. Put it in bold JS …. Make it clear where I made fun of her cuz we already know you like to spread garbage about me without anything to back it up.

I stand by what I said, I respect Spencer’s performance… not his mothers action.

You judged her behavior as if you had any standing to do so and if there was anybody wronged by what she did.

"I give him a pass and much respect. His mom's behavior not so much..."

I think you're being a little harsh here JS. The video went viral because it is just an interesting story about an unusual human reaction to an upsetting situation, nothing more. I've read a lot of different opinions from people who viewed it. Some were critical, some were sympathetic and some tried to play amateur psychologists. I showed it to my wife and she gave me a big lecture about how mothers feel when they watch their own kids lose in sports. Cathy Lee's actions might be a little out of the norm, but evidently her emotions were not.

FWIW, I've been guilty of taking things out on inanimate objects when my frustration level gets too high. (if you ever work on a car, I'll bet you've been there too.) Sometimes I feel a little foolish about it and sometimes it just helps me to cool down and focus on the task at hand. Ultimately, however, I never hurt anyone by this kind of response. If someone else wants to criticize me for being an idiot, that's their business. I'm OK with my own behavior.

I have no problem with Lee MFFing out of the tournament. There were plenty of MFFs on the backside. Lee's points were not needed for a team trophy, anything less than a championship was meaningless to him. Why risk more injury for what is essentially meaningless matches?

Last year Kerk MFFed the 3rd place match because the team trophy was clinched.

Reality is, just about everybody still wrestling on Saturday is nursing some kind of injury.
In this day and age of football players opting out of bowl games to avoid injury, MFF in wrestling have become acceptable to many people. However, I do not like it (I do not like it when PSU Wrestlers do it and I do not like it when other wrestlers do it) and it certainly not consistent with Spencer's tough, "excusses are for wussies," attitude. Not very inspirational. IMO, he loses credibility as a future coach.

So now since I called you out for lying about me yet again by saying I made fun of her, you’re now changing it to I’m pathetic because I judged her behavior.

I’ll tell you what JS you pos, I’ll apologize for judging her behavior soon as you apologize for running to my board and putting down and judging the behavior of Aaron Brooks after he won his title. And Aaron Brooks is essentially still a kid.

You’re two faced buddy… sorry…, you just are

Can we be done now? Because quite frankly I’m tired of making you look like a fool.

This is what a normal empathetic human response looks like.

Mock Spencer. He's the one on the mat. Family should be off limits. Like AgSurfer said, as if anyone here has never gotten frustrated and smacked a slow remote or yelled an expletive when something doesn't work. Now imagine it's your son coming back from 3 torn ACL's, hundreds of hours of rehab, going for his 4th title, and he gets thrown at the last second to lose. Honestly, laughing at it isn't as bad as judging it like @johnstownsteel . You've never been in that situation and you never will be. Pathetic to try to act superior.

You judged her behavior …

Lol good point actually. You're going to judge Cathy Lee for breaking her own glasses, but not Aaron Brooks for denigrating the religion of 2 billion people? classless.

I've criticized Spencer for his own actions. For example, the Ayala debacle. Not sportsmanlike and poor leadership. Like I've said, family is off limits.

Also didn't lie about you

This is sports and nothing new. People enjoy seeing upsets unless it's their guy. I recall saying there's no way Lee is pinning his way until and through the NCAAs. People were arguing it's possible which of course it is. Just really unlikely.
And |I don't blame folks for being caught up in hype, it happens. But it goes both ways. If Brooks or Starocci loses next year in the tourney some people will celebrate their losses and rip on PSU fans, it happens. And I won't blame them or be upset. It sucks to lose, but there can be only one champ so the rest of D1 has to deal with this and being a 3x champ going for 4 doesn't make you more special than those wrestlers.

This is coming from the same guy that couldn’t wait to run to our board and put down and judge Aaron Brooks for his reactions after winning a national championship which btw is something JS has never nor will ever experience. This turd can put down a kid yet he’s upset I judged Spencer’s mommy. Can’t make this shit up.

Maybe not. But they moved the whole family to Iowa (coincidentally, of course, with Larry going from world-class CMU to regional Coe College for a career opportunity he just couldn't pass up), and Mom broke her glasses on live TV when he lost. I think one can infer it's pretty important to the Lees.

Okay i'm gonna stop. Definitely a case of the Mondays, but I still maintain anybody making fun or especially judging Cathy Lee is gross. Especially coming from someone who anoints himself the chosen warrior of all things morally righteous and holding HR accountable.

I specifically said it was weird and out of character of him. I like AB a lot and like hearing him talk about his faith.

Maybe we can both accept we're emotional hypocrites who love our teams and have blind spots? We both overlook the flaws of our own side and are quick to judge.

On the contrary. While initially pretty funny to watch her mangle her specs..as I rewatched it, I actually started to become concerned about her mental well-being. After 50 or 60 watches, I focused on her intense facial expression, completely unhinged and focused on the destruction of those inanimate objects…and after 150 or so rewatches, I noticed the expressions on those behind her and their looks of incredulity and concern.

By the next morning, after hearing that they left their hotel and Spencer mff’d out, I had serious concerns about that whole family. I realize that this family has not experienced a lot of losing in the past, but the lack of perspective that seemed to engulf them as a whole was pretty sad.

Religious views aside, it really makes me appreciate the perspective that Aaron Brooks brings with losing. When all is said and done, it’s just a wrestling match. Learn from it, be grateful for it, and forge ahead with grit and determination.

He first lied and said I made fun of her. I’ve pretty much tried to stay away from the fray with that whole mess but I guess I could have refrained from saying that minor statement. Guess I’m just like JS… we just can’t help ourselves when it comes to judging others.
