Stanley Cup Playoffs: Flyers vs. Pens Round 1

Imagine having some old hag from 1975 sing your national anthem on the videotron because it’s the last time you were relevant

Lets go Pens
Not sure why you d-bag pens fans have to stoop to being the same as Pitt Fans. I am not even a Flyers fans but you sir are an a-hole and would for in perfectly on the Liar.

I don't know what was said to Sheary, but they should say it more often. Usually you blow on him and he falls over. Tonight he is knocking Flyers down and is strong on the puck. Then again, have Flyers given up?

You whine like a Flyer fan. You sure you’re not just trying to forget you’re a fan?
F- You Dick. Stay on the Pitt board. You fit in well that those jerk offs even though for some reason you think you are different- you are not. The mirror is your friend. This board is truly no different from the Pitt board sometimes - the team names are just different.

Classy post. Just what I would expect from a Flyers fan. Get your blankie, and cry yourself to sleep.

I won’t defend some Pens fans here, but I’ve been around long enough to have known plenty of Flyers fans who are more than capable of serving up their own unique brand of douche-baggery. Put another way, Flyers fans are not necessarily known for bringing “class” to the table.

I'm willing to bet that they would at least wear a tie to the table sir!

Went to the Flyers game tonight. First time ever going to a game in Philly as a Pens fan. Here are my general observations:

1. Really blue collar crowd. Not knocking working class people at all. I’m from Pittsburgh which is the definition of blue collar. But a much larger percentage of the Philly crowd is truly blue collar (say 70%) where as I’d say it’s 30-40% at a Pens game. So I think that brings a much different dynamic. Hockey tickets aren’t cheap, especially playoff hockey. So when you have a larger percentage of the population who spends their take home pay on hockey, it definitely ups the level of aggression.

2. Very whiney fan base. Ive always read on these boards how Pens fans complain too much, always looking for penalties, you can’t hit their stars, etc. Everytime a Pens player completed a hard clean check it was bloody murder. You would have thought someone went Todd Bertuzzi on a Flyer. Ironic coming from the fans of the Broad St Bullies.

3. Disappointed in the overall lack of knowledge in the game by a decent sized portion the fan base. Just subtle things you notice (like when clueless idiots at a baseball game yell balk when the pitcher fakes a pick off throw to 2nd or 3rd). And these people weren’t “corporate clients” there on the company dime either.

Overall had a good experience. Didn’t wear my Crosby or Kessel Jersey. Went from work with a few senior people so I kept it low key in order to not get verbally/physically assaulted. Sad that you have to think about that though...was never once a thought for the 25+ games I’ve attended in MSG and a dozen or so more in Newark. Definitely not a place to take kids. The 20 some year old female behind me must have yelled f*ckin c*nt this or that at the refs at least 100 times over the course of the game. I use colorful language all of the time and even I felt embarrassed for her. Seemed to be the norm, which ties back to my point #1.

Flyers fans heard the usual stirring rendition of "God Bless America," live by Lauren Hart and on video by the late Kate Smith. The song has been a rallying anthem for the Flyers since Smith began singing it in the mid 1970s. Hart started the song, then looked up to the big screen and passed it off to Smith. They finished in a split-screen duet.

Didn't work either.

Please take this opportunity to remember that the Flyers are the better franchise.

hey, I like the Flyers ( can’t say love because I just don’t care that much) But this thread has become yet another embarrassment. Flashes of greatness, if that’s it, weren’t going to cut it. Would be nice to see this become competitive but it’s hard to see the fans putting in more heart (and sometimes brain—sometimes not) than the players.

The old hag comment was ugly.

Been a balk since 2013. if you are going to use a rule a least use it correctly

And while I am not a blue collar worker. Your comment is dripping with snotty prick tude. "went to the game with some seniors." Good for you. After pointing out all the blue folk in attendence.

It's like saying I am not a racist but man were there a lot of black people at that place. I dont know maybe you are also an anti-dentite.

Never in my life have I had a bad time at a Philly sporting event. Wearing Penn State clothes. Pens gear or even colors of the teams the eagles are playing. Would i take my kids there nope, but I wouldn't take them to a Steelers game either.

And before you call me a flyers a fan. I was at both games for the Pens in Newark and I try to make it out to PPG for a game a year. I didn't make it this year.

Maybe that chick just wanted to have someone f^&k her c!nt. You should have a been nice and offered. Maybe she would have stopped. And when I go to games, I go with blue collar workers all the time. My friends don't yell f÷ck!ng c^nt. It's not the norm.

Nah, this post isn’t going to get scorched!

Hello. I'm a Flyers fan. But unlike a lot of the clones, I watch ALL playoff hockey. I have never seen a team lay down like the Flyers did last night. That was a complete no-heart display by that team. I've noticed in these playoffs when teams are down they hustle more and they get more physical. The Bruins, Lighting, and Devils all showed this when I watched them. The Giroux line has disappeared and the goalie play is typical for the playoffs for the Flyers. Bring back Craig Berube for the next game just to restore a little pride.

What a travesty. As a lifelong Flyers fan, I don't think I've ever seen a Flyers team in the playoffs look as lifeless and pathetic as this team has looked. What happened to this rivalry? Even if the Flyers weren't the more talented team between the two, they would always scratch, claw, fight, and work to give the Penguins everything they could, and make it very entertaining in the process (see: 2012). This is not even close anymore. The 4 games this series have all been awful games.

Bad, lifeless coaching (Hakstol), bad goaltending, and a group of vets that look like they just don't give a damn anymore (Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Filppula, Lehtera, Raffl, MacDonald, Gudas, and Manning among others are all guilty.)

It's pretty bad when the best player for the Flyers last night was a 19-year old matched up against Crosby's line.

The young guys like Patrick, Couturier, Konecny, Provorov, Ghost, and Sanheim are the future that the team should build around, and are the only ones that are at least playing with some juice. Everyone else on the roster should be ashamed at how they are performing.

If you're going to quit on your coach (which they've done), ok fine, but then at least play for your own pride. If you can't even do that, then why make the playoffs at all?

End rant.

Well summarized.

I can remember just a few years ago the same nucleus of flyers (Giroux, Simmonds,..) getting down in a game by 2+ goals and come storming back to tie the game or some times even win it. And that is what I was expecting in this series, even if the Pens got off to good starts in individual games. It's really been a big disappointment, as far as playoff intensity and expecting a competitive hard fought series, which playoff hockey usually is.

What happened to Simmonds? He's used to set the tone of play for the flyers, but in now playing like he has 2 bad knees. I had to look him up on Wikipedia to find out he is only 29 years old, as he is playing like he is 40.... If he is healthy and playing like he is, I don't expect him to be with the flyers next year.
