The President can now send message to everyone in the country on their cellphone.

Thought my text was from President Barren, regarding the PSU 2025 vision. PSU for Life Program (just like the alumini club where you can't unjoin as a Life Member)

This is just like when the TV warns you about impending doom. It's for emergencies. In fact, I work at a school and our principal forewarned all of us that this was going to happen so when everyone's phone went off at the same time, kids wouldn't panic.

got it 15 minutes ago. Article I read this morning says it will hit about 75% of cell phones in the US. Why not the other 25%- no idea !

I did .... It was a presidential emergency warning test... it claimed .... my wife did not get it. She is not on twitter so perhaps she didn't need to be warned. :)

Like we wouldn't already know.... overkill.
On 9/11, my wife worked in a small office in a high rise in Pittsburgh with a few others. I was in my office alone that day and did not know of the attacks immediately. I did not find out until nearly a half hour later. I called her cell and they were not aware either. I told her to get the hell out of the building. The same event, I had a friend that was walking alone on a trail near Pittsburgh. He had his cell phone and service was available. He did not know until an hour after the second plane hit. Had this alert been in place, we all would have known much sooner. I don't care if it's overkill. If there is a national emergency, I want to know as soon as possible.

This is not for political purposes. It is for a national emergency and if there one, I think you just might be interested.
not particularly, no

I'm not getting recalled to duty at my age, and I'm very well stocked up on ammo, so there is really nothing that is going to get me running in circles worrying about something that I can't have an impact on - and anything that I can have an impact on I'm already ready for.

This has been in the news the last couple days that this was coming.

And no you can't block it.

Knowledge is power. In my last post I cited 2 instances where my wife and I, and a friend, did not immediately know of the 9/11 attacks. We were not at home at the time. Had we known sooner, we would have gotten home sooner where we are also prepared. You may have all the ammo you need, but if you are out and unaware, it does you no good.

LOL, I kind of think the same way about the evacuations in an emergency. I live north of Baltimore on 95. A freaking flat tire on the side of the road on 95 or 695 causes traffic problems I can't imagine what an evacuation would do.
Unless its a hurricane that I have plenty of notice of I'm probably staying put.

if I'm out, a fair amount of it's out with me, lol

Do you work in a deep valley in Elk County with no continuous news feed in your contact lens. It isn't 2011 anymore. My wife's phone did not get the text, but she still has her news feed coming in. It did not come to our home phone. So, if my phone was in my car buzzing while I was in the house I would not know about any emergency. Not only is it overkill, apparently it doesn't work all that well. Quite frankly, we have enough chickens living in constant fear.... that don't need stoked any more than ya all ready are. People here in Tennessee mistake leaves for ISIS drones carrying Botulinum toxins.
