Tyler Bowen going to NFL

All these coaches keep getting hired yet not a single BWI poster has gotten a coaching job....something is not adding up.
Have you heard from 21 guns lately? And we have hired new coaches.

We don't have many good coaches.
The best coaches are employed elsewhere, have left here, or just got here and have not coached a game yet.
I hate us.

I was unaware that AB was so highly regarded as a young coach.
He isn’t. If he hadn’t played at Penn State people would be up in arms if Franklin hired a guy who never been a P5 coach. He was a GA for one year. No one has any clue if he can recruit or handle being a position coach.

Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if he tried to get someone who worked with Yurrich before like Jason McEndoo or Derek Warehime. Honestly I would love for them to take a run at Tee Martin at UT.

Why would Urban be interested in a TE coach who happens to be a great recruiter? Did Urbs forget he’s in the NFL and no longer needs to recruit or is there something more nefarious happening?

none of this makes sense. a TE coach from a 4-5 college program. if you were looking at a college program, wouldn't you go for a winner? OSU TE coach not good enough? as you say, maybe he forgot about no need to recruit in the NFL.

Along with being an excellent coach, Bowen is also a good guy. Met him a few times while he was recruiting one of our players. Bowen and Pry came up to my room to “accidentally” run into the kid they were recruiting. We were talking and a random kid walks up and asks about the giant ring on his finger. Without hesitating Bowen pulls off the Fiesta Bowl ring and hands it to the kid, we continue to talk. The kid was trying it on, passed it to the next kid. Bowen was asking the kids what they were working on, very engaging with all the kids. Definitely put out the good vibes.

Bowen has a very good reputation in the industry, and this apparently wasn’t his first opportunity at a significant promotion over the past few years. James Franklin also has a very strong reputation, especially with Urban, who has been incredibly complimentary of Franklin’s staff for years.

Its just really hard to keep good coaches these days, you either promote them or they are gone. Bowen wanted to be an OC and was passed maybe 2 or 3 times? Had to chap his ass. For shame.

He must have used some moisturizer then because if that was the case he could have left multiple times before now. He's had opportunities.

If I were Adam it would take a considerable pay raise to leave Tempe. They have put together a star studded NFL staff and the SCENERY out there is tremendous.
I concur. I was there on the first day of classes one time on a business trip. ASU definitely has a well-earned reputation.

I hope the NCAA Nazis don't read this board.

He's taking Pat F. at #25 and wants him to be comfortable with his position coach. If Pat's not there, he still took a rising young coach from PSU. He wins either way.

That would be a step down for Tee Martin.

Joining Urban at Jacksonville.

Bowen seemed to be one of the top couple recruiters on Franklin's staff, so this will likely hurt in the short run.........

I would think this would be a resume building move for him to eventually return to college as a offensive coordinator at a high profile D1 school or head coach @ a G5 school and eventually move up to P5 if he is successful.

Sucks in the short term but Franklin's coaching tree is growing; Bowen will probably be a hot young head coach at some point and that always reflects well. Would have to think some good TE coach would love the opportunity to lead the Aces - have Gesicki and Pat F. in the NFL, and the cupboard nearly overflowing with Kuntz, Strange, Warren, and Johnson.

I know he was in the witness relocation program that is The Detroit Lions, ;), but Jesse James is still in the NFL as well.
The Steelers should have kept him and not blamed him for the Patriot loss. He's certainly better than the 2 stiffs they had.

Psu wasnt the only staff to do this for that recruit.
What, you're telling me that PSU "bends" the NCAA recruiting rules just like every other major program? Shocking. Hopefully the holier than thou PSU crowd doesn't see this.

Sucks to lose Bowen, he was one of 3 assistants that I really liked and wanted to hang on to (Seider, Galt). Trautwein and Stubblefield certainly gaining ground though, but only have 1 season under their belt.

Our coaches are sub par at best....and yet they seem to be having no trouble getting offers as HC, or the NFL. You can't have it both ways. All I heard about JVP's staff was how stagnant things were and no turnover meant that they were subpar and no one else wanted them.
Now you have CJF who has staff members in demand and therefore there will be turnover. Which way is the front?

In reference to bringing in AB....if he had not played at PSU and had a similar resume....how big would the outrage be here that we would be bringing in such a neophyte?

Some bend them and some break the shit out of them.

I thought I read somewhere when Urban took the job he said he wouldn't "poach" Ohio State Coaches......but what a plan to take rivals better recruiters......damn him.
I would assume Urban would go after Brian Hartline with the track record of the WR's. If he drafts Lawrence the passing game is priority one, Bowen is a good coach and recruiter, but everyone is replaceable. Good Luck TB.

Franklin has a serious problem with keeping his coaching talent

Bowen was a star. His position group always performed, he called a fine bowl game vs Memphis and he’s one helluva recruiter. Regarded by far as the best assistant coach they had. Knowing this Urban killed two birds with one stone, helping himself while helping OSU.

It’s really that simple, but you’ll try to make it into something it’s not. Franklin fired the OC, guess he wasn’t up to par or maybe he was a great coach? Which one is it? He parted ways with Limegrover cuz the OL stunk. Oh, you know everything so you know Rahne was getting canned right but his agent found him a job?

So stop whining on here about everyone criticizing the same coaches that Franklin has let go. We all get you’re the best coach in the world outside of ANY PSU coach. Go get another hobby.

Well, all you have is rumor regarding Rahne. Just to be clear, I defended him and unlike you and others, my pants didn't get wet when KC was hired. RR's record as OC was 21-6. But WE DESERVE BETTER! I've never defended KC, and remarked several times during the year that the resident fanboys who hailed his arrival had egg on their collective faces. Now the resident fanboys are worshipping MY and have declared that if he is not the second coming, that it will be because CJF has interfered. You just don't see that his "popularity" with the resident fanboys is based on the fact that he has not yet made a "mistake" at PSU. I'll wait till the first loss of 2021.
Bowen is a rising star in the coaching field. He is leaving here somewhat unscathed by the genius critics because he had NFL level talent to coach and he was only the OC for one game. One game is generally the honeymoon period for coaches (although on game threads I've seen it last less than a quarter).
Pity the poor moron fanboys who post here.....they relish beating the living shit out of every coach....but the minute they are challenged (criticized or taken to task) they start to cry foul. LOL Moron Fanboys.
