***Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Sandy Barbour to Retire***

Best news I've heard out of PSU in a long time. The only problem is that her replacement won't be hired based on skills or experience. Her replacement will be chosen based on how many "woke" boxes can be checked. I look for maybe Rachel Levine to be her replacement.

She didn't put the University Athletic Dept in a deep hole like she did in her prior place of employment. Had a couple very good hires. Didn't exactly kill it fundraising. I'd give her a B-, it could have been way worse. I'm probably being generous with that grade, but Cael and Shrew were very good hires.

The overall performance of the athletic teams, save for a few, has declined greatly during her tenure. This past athletic year has to be one of the worst in a long time. When you compare PSU to OSU right now, it's not even close. God, even OSU's women's hockey team was ranked #1 at the end of the year.

She was far from an inspiring choice at either Cal or PSU, but she checked some PC boxes, and kept her nose out of trouble. As for the debt that Cal ran up during her tenure, CMS (aka California Memorial Stadium) was 100 years old and in dire need of retrofitting. Particularly seismic retrofitting, as it would have been a disaster site if an earthquake happened. (The Hayward Fault runs directly beneath CMS.) I am far from a Sandy fan but, to be fair, those things were not her fault (pun intended).

I’m hearing Neeli wants her own AD and told SB maybe now is the right time and not next year. SB has been shopping and the new regime said go ahead. Kudos if accurate. I’m sure there is still discomfort with the Franklin extension and rightfully so. I hope Neeli has the big’ens to call Jimmy Franks bluffs in the future. He is so over paid and will be on the grille this year.

Do you think she was more influential than a couple alum donors throwing large money at Cael to be at PSU??

Good riddance. Now bring in someone with the cajones to put Franklin on notice.
Don't worry. Admiral Levine will put Franklin on notice. If he doesn't win a national championship over the next few years I bet Admiral Levine will coax Bill Belichick to take over as head coach.

Except she did put the AD in a deep hole. That hole is James Franklin's contract which has the potential to be every bit as damaging as the the stadium deal she left Cal with. Cal could have won their way out of the financial mess they were in. We are stuck with Coach Hype, all his bad decisions and his non-stop whining which is only going to get worse now that he can't be fired.

Call his bluff? How so? He owns $80M no matter what anyone does.

White Male self pity. Tragic.
You make a valid point but the same could be said for a lot of folks but a certain party fosters and enables a victim-hood culture and so everyone wants to join in.

I work with Male self pity every week. It is not limited to any one race, but only Repubs believe everything is more difficult for white people. Special kind of stupid.

Only a Dem that enables every form of victim-hood while simultaneously eradicating accountability of any form would say something so stupid. That and the fact you folks think you get points, or votes, by being self-hating whites. The pandering knows no bounds.

She didn't hire Cael.
