Walsh Ironman

Crookham looks like a hammer. Mastro is out and hurt so we won't get to see that potential matchup. Van Ness is also hurt.

What are Bartlett’s mat strengths and does he need anything to improve on ?

It’s impossible to follow of Flo and there’s no video on Track. What a dumb arrangement.

Finals Matches So Far

106: #2 Marc-Anthony McGowan (Blair Academy) vs 11 Mac Church (Waynesburg Central)

113: #17 Brett Ungar (Notre Dame) vs Gary Steen (Reynolds)

120: #7 Jordan Titus (Center Moriches) vs #10 Cooper Flynn (McDonogh School)

126: #5 Ryan Crookham (Notre Dame) vs #3 Nic Bouzakis (Wyoming Seminary)

No clue what Herrmann's game plan was there as he wrestled from one knee almost entire 3rd period. It was almost impossible for Bartlett to score.
He did the same crap in the Quarters. Different story with college rules.

It's called playing to your strengths.

Herrmann is a pretty good scrambler and really good on the mat. He's going to win a lot of matches wrestling the way he did. Just not against a talent like Bartlett.

Bartlett with a fine win, nothing to complain about. Basically controlled the whole match, scored when the opportunity presented itself, held position and was never in danger of dropping that match. And Herrmann is really tough.

I've seen those traits in an awful lot of really good D1 wrestlers. Bartlett is pretty advanced.

@Grip220 is just chiming in and complaining because he's butthurt that the Hawk recruit wasn't good enough to do that.;)

Yet the majority of this board calls out every Hawkeye who wrestles this style. But I guess if the guy is a PSU recruit then it’s good, smart wrestling.

Herrmann is not and never was a PSU recruit.
You know what I mean. This style:

“Basically controlled the whole match, scored when the opportunity presented itself, held position and was never in danger of dropping that match.”

Huh?? Where did this come from? The PSU recruit just beat the Clarion to Harvard recruit who beat the Hawk recruit. Grip complained that the Harvard recruit wrestled on one knee against the Iowa recruit the same way that he did agains the PSU recruit. No one mentioned anything about a Hawkeye recruits wrestling style other than the fact that he got beat.

I would quibble and say that the majority of this board calls out Hawkeyes who are more interested in getting pushout warnings and points than being opportunistic scorers who dominate position.

Remind me who the wrestler is on Iowa that does that and I will agree that he's a pretty good college wrestler. Maybe Lugo. Who is a pretty good college wrestler.

Except he wrestles that way every match. I would counter with Mark Hall, who will wrestle that way when he has to, but is a lot more talented and has the ability to open it up but is also content not to risk too much if that plays into his opponents gameplan.

You are correct I wanted to see our guy vs yours It would have been a better match to watch. And Henson will be toying with that kid by his RS year in a college match. That said if the guy actually wrestled Bartlett would most likely of scored more points also.
It would not hurt for a Psu fan to be unbiased ever once in a while and just talk wrestling without the BS

Brandon Sorensen was consistently called out for his style and had a pretty good career.
