Why didn't Nick Lee compete at the National Collegiate Open

I though Nick was going to be there at 141. I just looked at the results and didn't see his name anywhere.

Any news on why he didn't compete.

I wonder if making 141 has become a problem? He had the look of a guy cutting a lot of weight the last event I saw him wrestle in.

I doubt it was a lot of weight cutting, but rather just horrible bottom wrestling. Joe Lee has the same issue. That's going to be their biggest transition to college.

Nobody from PSU went. I don't think this was a decision relating specifically to Nick Lee, but PSU wrestlers as a whole.

Considering he was 61 kilos for FS, I highly doubt it.

Trust me, I hope I am wrong with that observation. Nick fits real nicely into future lineups at 141. That being said, day before weigh-ins are a whole different ballgame. Also, keep in mind he is still high school age and may have not been done growing yet. Possible he had one last growth spurt and added an inch or two in a short period of time. Again, hope I'm wrong.

Lots of know-it-all Delta Bravos on the board anymore. It always amazes me how they can elevate their opinion to fact status in their own minds without any real information on the subject.

I didn't have any agenda or theories why. I just looked at the results hoping to see that a future PSU wrestler had done well. When I didn't see his name I was curious why.

Considering he moved here from Indiana to wrestle, I think it was a legitimate question. Some people just react badly to anything that could be construed negative and lash out at the messenger. Look at my posts, my tone was non combative, just wrote my opinion based on some observations, yet we have a couple posters copping an attitude as if it is beyond the realm of possibility to think Nick may have outgrown the weight class. Meanwhile if you look at how tall the kid is and watched his performance at his last event, it's easy to see how it might have become an issue.

I wouldn't consider it bad news at all. Nick Lee still has a redshirt for next year and jumps right in at 149 when Zain uses up his eligibility. 141 next year won't matter for the team race- too many horses for anyone to threaten imo. RBY might be a perfect 141 in a couple of years and he and Nick Lee would form a solid tandem at those two weights. Berge may or may not be a 149, and I tend to think of him as a career 157 guy. Maybe Cortez wrestles his senior year at 141 and RBY goes as a true frosh at 133. So many options when you have solid star power in a tournament setting. PSU has a history of letting guys grow and move up, and it has served them very well. All that blabbed and I have no clue if Nick Lee has out grown 141 or not.

61kg = 134.2lbs. 7 under 141. Night before weigh-in or not, if you are competing at 61kg, you haven't outgrown college weigh-in 141 yet.

Threads always go off the rails when posters attempt to answer objections to their not well thought-out posts with not well thought-out rationalizations.

Was there no 2KG allowance at 61kg? But as others have said, he fits at either weight.

I'm starting the Bo Pipher bandwagon for 17-18 if anyone wants to join.

Maybe the rule is you just can't be in high school, even if you're not in college, despite the name of the event?
From the "eligibility" sexton of the NCO site: Per NCAA rules, this event is closed to high school students; all other individuals may compete.

And don't worry, FT. Joseph isn't tall and managed to "outgrow" 157 just 6 months after making 145.5 in FS.

Didn't AJ Nevills outgrow 197 in the span of a few months this season as well?

Hall should stay in redshirt also, right guys!

Yea, these are the posters with the well thought out posts. A regular think tank

This is an example of what I'm talking about not well thought out. Completely different set of circumstances. 1) missing weight once when you are in RS over a holiday, doesn't mean a ton; and 2) Nolf is at 157, if he were at 165, we are probably talking about a different outcome.

This is more like it. If there was a 2KG allowance at 61kg, that certainly makes an impact.

I would point out, however, that Nick Lee participated in a college tournament at 141 about a month ago. Seems a pretty short time to have outgrown the weight.

I'm actually with you on this. I get shouted down about Joseph's missed weigh-ins whenever I suggest he could make 157 again. Like I don't remember or something. It's why I put "outgrow" in quotes. I just thought it would make a solid defense for FT.

Garrett Hammond and Shakur Rasheed do NOT endorse LemonPie as bandwagon leader :D

Morelli did me dirty. That's for sure. Does his practice room homework. Luckily I was on the Rasheed AND Hall bandwagon this year. Keystone Classic was fun while it lasted. I'm still Team Rasheed 197. For life. But Cassar is intriguing.

It certainly would be interesting if Jason decides to go 165 next year, like Bo decided on 184 this year. I guess one possibility would be for Hall to RS. The other would be Joseph to 57. The missed weigh-in during RS year means pretty much nothing. I would guess all options would be in play and they would cross that bridge over the summer if they had to.

For my part, I never shouted you down; I was actually curious to research when in college he did manage to make 157, after your affirmative single-word answer to the inquiry. When I found it, I thought the 1 success / 2 fails time-frames were relevant and posted them for that reason. It seems a little weird to me to ignore that evidence, but I'm perfectly happy not to shout at you about it.

And hey, you brought the Willie anecdote about Cenzo's sloppy history with weight-management. And I allowed that a Nolf-Hall lineup at 165-174 might be a stronger incentive for Cenzo to make 157 than wrestling in front of PSU fans for the first time at the NLO or traveling to the Scuffle to do the same were.

So, internet on, dude. No need to go martyr on it.

My God, this site has turned into buzzards-after-road-kill. Why can't we interact with everybody without insults. If we don't like others questions or answers, use your "ignore" feature. There is just no need to flame at others who may not be up to your wrestling-knowledge level, but ask questions or try to answer others who ask. There is no need to snipe at one another. Hopefully we can all reach the knowledge level which will endear all. Then we will have a more engaging site.

While lemon might smell a little sour, I would never call him roadkill...

Amen, brother. This is a very good forum IMO, with a number of very solid posters who contribute a lot, but it would be even better without the needless angry, argumentative attitudes or the condescending attitudes. Just my 2 cents.

SO TYPICAL FOR YOU TO SAY THAT. I disagree completely and think you are clearly a lesser fan for thinking so.
