If polls drop teams for close wins why haven’t they dropped for playing cream puff schedule. They still have Citadel and La Lafayette.

Uh, let’s see. They were the top ranked team to start the season and have had convincing wins, regardless of opponent. If the top ranked team to start wins their first two games in blowouts, where would you suggest they be ranked?

Louisville and Ole Miss aren't chopped liver. Bama has earned every inch of respect they get. Have you watched college football the past
10 years??

They would beat Jimmy Delany’s favored team this year by 14. We may even see that at the end of the year.

Bama has their typical salty defense with a QB who’s a real weapon rather than a game manager.

I love the Bama denigration on this board from some delusional, jealous souls. If it was our team in the same situation, we’d be on a Fatwa against any pollsters not giving us a #1 vote.

We would be on a phat-wa.

By what teams have done on the field so far, LSU should be number 1 and I don't think that is close.. wins over Miami on a neutral field and at Auburn are world above anything anyone else has done. These polls are worthless at this point anyway. Bama is certainly good but they haven't proven anything this season yet.. in fact, they didn't prove much last regular season either, not that it mattered. I'd just rank teams according to who teams beat rather than what they looked like beating crappy teams. Bama at LSU should be one of the games of the year in early November. Same day as we play at Michigan.

Bama will beat LSU by three TD’s.

They are the defending champs, and just waxed Ole Miss 62-7.

Why wouldn't they be #1?

I have more questions about Clemson at #2. Other than looking like $hit against horrible competition, there is nothing #2 about their resume.

They can get ranked number one after that. I guess I just don't understand how rankings are used as predictors of who would beat who when I think it should be about who you beat up to this point.

in a perfect world there would be no rankings at all until October at the earliest

Or in a better world people would simply ignore them until then. Can't say that I follow my own advice, but I really don't do more than glance at them until the playoff rankings come out.

I've always contended that preseason rankings in college sports are pointless. With the amount of change year to year with rosters you are essentially ranking schools based on name and reputation. The best idea IMO would be to produce the first set of CFP Rankings after 4 weeks. By a third of the season you have a good handle on how teams are trending and where they should be ranked. In this scenario would anyone with a pair of eyes not named Lou Holtz have ND ranked in the Top 10?

LSU has done the most this season, but if you look at returning starters and history, Bama is an easy number one.

Notre Dame being number 8 is a joke. They should have dropped out of the top 10 based on the game play of their last 2 weeks. The Michigan win is even more suspect, especially if Patterson isnt the anointed one that everyone in Ann Arbor thought he was.

ND is always overrated and the rest of their schedule is very winnable. This is why I was grudgingly hoping Michigan would beat them. PSU can settle it on the field against UM, but they are at the mercy of the voters when it comes to ND. We all know how that will turn out. Great job Meatchicken!

Agree. I'd put Georgia, OSU, and Oklahoma above Clemson

I concur with your agreement. Clemson is suspect. Their d-line is all world, but their offense doesn't seem to be that great.

There isn't even any question who is #1 right now. It is Bama and then everyone else. The only question is, can Bama sustain this level of dominance once Niky retires?

They're #1 because Nick Saban played at Kent State. Winning is in his DNA.

Yeah, as bad as I hate to admit it. Michigan flat out blew it against ND. That game could end up costing a one loss BIG champion big time if it comes down to a one loss ND and the BIG champ for a playoff spot. ND is not a playoff team. I know it's hard to digest sometimes, especially on this board, but some of the BIG OOC games require a BIG win for the good of the conference at playoff selection time - even if it is Michigan or the evil/crooked empire.

But so far, he is.

How about Notre Dame at #8? Barely beat Ball State and Vandy.
Herby threw ND a huge bone by saying Vandy would upset them. IOW, the great one thinks Vandy is a helluva team.. so if ND loses, well, there ya go. If they win, BOOM, huge win.

Not sure what his angle was but he had one when he said that.
