I'm also curious what the athletic dept is planning for the themed days... I can't even remember a B1G slate that was more jacked than the one we'll be facing this year.

(This is what March Madness inspired... when the hell is it football season?)

I couldn't think of a better schedule to get through to keep the 15ish game winning streak going, that we currently have in the Beav.

Looking at the 2018 schedule, I could see, Ohio State, Mich State, Wisconsin or Iowa being hyped enough to warrant the whiteout... with exception of Michigan State all of those teams have seen it, so initially I thought Maybe Sparty... but not with Homecoming?

It will more than likely be the Ohio State game... I just hope they don't decide to do it twice.. It's a spectacle because it only happens once a year.. we need to keep it that way.

Does anyone have any insight on potential kickoff games?

B1G Championship - Saturday December, 1 2018

In 2005, the first year white outs took hold, we whited out OSU, famously, and Wisconsin that same year. No one mentions the 05 Wisconsin white out when they make lists but I am positive it was a student white out.

Unless there is some requirement for a random draw or rotation between teams, the answer is obvious. We white out whenever tOSU is on the home schedule. When we play them away, then there be some sort of debate, but likely one of the Michigan schools or Wisconsin if we play them at home.

Why not more than one?

OSU. Urban just flat out hates it when he's the recipient of a white out.
Iowa
Wiscy
MSU

OSU. /thread

If we are still undefeated by the time Wisconsin rolls into town that will probably be an impromptu second one.

Have Two Whiteout Night Games back to back vs OSU and MSU need all the help we can get, they both will be very good teams.

It should be noted that any guesses on kickoff times at this point are complete speculation (except the Friday Illinois game, and probably the Pitt game kicking off at noon). With Big Ten selection very evenly split between ESPN and Fox, the time slot for a "top pick" could be anywhere. Homecoming kickoff time should come out sometime in May, possibly along with big-ticket game kickoff times.

That all said, of COURSE Ohio State is going to be the whiteout game.

By the way, Week 10 (Nov 3) is listed as the bye week for some reason. The game @ Michigan is that week. Week 6 (Oct 6) is the bye week.

I disagree. If that atmosphere can intimidate the opponents and give the home team an advantage then it shouldn’t be reserved for one game a year.
Yeah, but if you said every game was a whiteout then you wouldn't have the same atmosphere every week. JoePa said that you could only use the EXTREME pep talk once a season as it would get tired.

I was a freshman in 05 when it started and we did it twice to help the team. It doesn't diminish it at all. It creates a crazy environment that is a great national sell and incredibly hard to play in for an opposition

Wisconsin (red/white) and/or Michigan State (green/white) deserve BLUE OUTS!!!! Darken that stadium as much as possible!

There is an intensity at white out games because it's against a top team. A white out against Rutgres would be like any other game. Once a year works for me.

If a whiteout helps us win we should do it every game I could care less if it diminishes the whiteout just win baby;)
We haven't lost a home game in two years. Pretty good streak. Beaver Stadium is once again becoming a very difficult place to win for visitors.

Have to look at the other teams schedules to see if they have a good shot at being undefeated come time for a trip down HV Lane. Seems like any one of them can lose one along the way.

While certainly would do a white out for every home game I would have no problem doing two if the teams qualify.

How about we only do white outs if a team comes rated in the Top 10 nationally? Would be funny to see teams set a team goal as having a whiteout at HV.

I disagree. I feel like you welcome Ohio State or Michigan to Beaver Stadium and barring a nuclear meltdown, or a driving rainstorm... it's going to be electric.

The crowd gimmicks can sometimes be the igniter to get things rocking against mediocre competition. We've attempted the stripeout three times. The first time, VS Rutgers in 2015, was one of the best atmospheres outside of a whiteout game that I can remember post scandal. It's pretty telling considering we opened the season with a loss to Temple. I was worried people would barely show up, and sure enough it turned out to be deafening.

Temple in 2016 wa ... so, so... there was a revenge factor from the year prior, however the loss to Pittsburgh the weekend prior kind of put a damper on things. The Nebraska game this year had potential, however their lackluster season, and the piss poor weather doomed that one from the start.

WE ARE... 3-0 in the Stripeout game... Maybe we need to assign that to our toughest opponent. :D

Any chance we get two night games this year... dare I say three?

There’s an option that isn’t once a year and isn’t every game. Do it for big games. Franklins asked everyone to wear white to games that weren’t the official white out previously. Doing it for osu and then Wisconsin doesn’t mean you also commit to doing it for Rutgers and sisters of the poor.

The optics of a white out only really work at night. How many home night games do we really want? I can see more than one if the schedule dictates it, but I would also like to see more 3:30 games. Hopefully, with our improved competitiveness, there will be fewer noon games going forward. I think OSU is the obvious choice as long as it represents our biggest challenge. Wisconsin or MSU would be good this year.

THIS ^^^^^

The Whiteout absolutely needs to be a night game for it to have its full impact. The sea of white reflecting against the bright lights up against the green grass with our team in blue uniforms, in an otherwise dark environment, is a sight that is UNRIVALED in all of sports.

I pray that this is an 8pm kickoff. I will be in Athens, GA for my first SEC game (Georgia vs. Tennessee) and I'm hoping that starts at 3:30

Absolutely. On the flip side, consider Iowa's blackout against us last year. Everyone wearing black made the stands look like a bunch of floating heads. The optics are depressing when the crowd wears a dark color at night. One thing I thought was great for that game was that our road uniforms looked fantastic in the dark atmosphere.

A good reason to try a BLAZE OUT for a compelling/substantial afternoon matchup IMHO :D

Everything looks better at night including the stripeout or even a game vs Georgia State. The Ga St game was much more electric than I thought it would be because it was at night. Ohio State should be the whiteout unless there's some dumb reason it's an afternoon kickoff. I like the designated night game whiteout and then an impromptu whiteout if the season dictates it. Since Iowa was a night game on BTN in 2016 and our team was picking up momentum, it was a really cool thing for Franklin to ask for it and then 107k responding to it enthusiastically. The Ohio State game certainly doesn't need a designation for it to be a ridiculous atmosphere.

I agree, and it just goes to show that the night games really bring everyone into the stadium regardless of the opponent. I was at that game and was very surprised by how packed Beaver Stadium was for Georgia State.

The black out is really dumb but it's fun for a road game because our guys are in white and you can spot Penn State fans pretty easily. Was easy to find myself on tv at Iowa as the only one in white in my section.
