I'll write this here rather than on HR. Several days ago while posting on HR, he used the word 'us' in a statement, and us was definitely a reference to Iowa. Maybe a mistake or maybe he tipped his hand. I noted it because I have always found him to be difficult to peg. I think he may have started out as neutral to Iowa, but as his hatred for PSU grows, I think he is becoming an Iowa fan as the anti-PSU choice.
Just pointing out that, that is some CRAZY hate: Imagine hating one team more than anything, including actually HAVING a favorite team. I've seen his stuff on the mat and it's post, after post, after post, after post of subtle, or direct, or hidden hate for PSU.
Kinda feel sad for the guy, all he wants in the world is for PSU to lose, and PSU just keep winning national championships.

He wrestled for MSU but since they have a team in name only, he posts on HR and follows Iowa. He has some fantastic posts sometimes but he brings his Mat feuds over to HR sometimes and it can be annoying. That said, the number of anti Iowa and/or argumentative posts by PSU fans on HR severely outweighs anti PSU and/or argumentative posts by Iowa fans on here...and its not even close. Yes, I get into it on here every once in awhile along with WildTurk, MinnHawk but that's about it. Believe me, there are no shortage of clowns (this means you chuckles) and trolls on HR from the PSU side of the house.
As wrestling posters go, I think you're fair minded Chief, and you try to keep the peace as much as possible. You are one of the few that tries to simmer down your fan base when they get out of hand over there. Yes, there are a few PSU trolls on HR, but the trolling of every PSU fan that posts there is suffocating and promotes the very trolling you rail against. I was told to GTFO in response to saying that Marinelli was going to be a good one. Huh??? Most of us come in peace. I have been reading HR for about 10 years now, and the quality of posting there suffers compared to the past. The antagonistic Iowa posters far outweigh the reasonable posters like yourself, and have driven away the really good Iowa fans while instigating an intrusion of fans from other sites. It's almost a self fulfilling prophesy that the more you resist other fans with hateful banter, the more you'll get in return.
... and I agree that 'chuckles' is an extreme example and cannot be condoned in any way.
So he wrestled for Michigan State, but never mentions Michigan State, does not really root for Iowa, but promps Iowa fans by hating on Penn State.

He mentions MSU and the state of their program quite a bit actually. Also, when he does it, plenty of Iowa fans get on his case but if you want to cherry pick the ones that are going to hate on PSU no matter what, feel free.
Where has he mentioned MSU? Haven't seen anything lately, although I'm sure at one point or another he perhaps mentioned it in passing. Apparently their program runs a distant second to "you know what bothers PSU and Cael most" stuff though, right?
We've gotten so many of you all over there, especially when PSU clinched that its hard to keep track of who's legit and who's there to stick it in. Like any other board, you are going to get the three categories: 1. Iowa fans only 2. Glad you're here, we can talk wrestling, just don't be a D-Bag 3. Haters no matter what you say. This applies on here as well. I try and speak up for who I think are the decent posters but even I'm scratching my head at who is legit or not.
Folks can pretty much do unlimited trolling over on HR because the threshhold for D-Baggery by opposing fans is much higher than here because we don't have an active mod on HR and...we are just used to it. Have to say...there are a lot more "fans" of PSU posting on HR than in recent years. Most of it is negative but at least it seems you are growing the fan base...so there is that

While content has suffered greatly, I would venture a guess the clicks remain the same or are higher these days.

There are a ton of Iowa posters on Hawkeye Report that aren't even wrestling fans. They migrate from the football and basketball boards when they watch Sportscenter and notice Iowa didn't win the national championship to say that everybody needs to be fired.
Not going to be anytime soon the Hawks are #1 again. TnT are getting out worked by Psu, tOSU, and the Pokes on the recruiting trail. They'd need everything to break perfect and make magic to get another title soon.
I'd have to say that most of the regular PSU trollers on the HR rarely post on BWI at all. Lion8whatever, GrecoG, a couple of other morons. I really don't think you can give me a real troll over there that is a regular contributer here. Amalone doesn't count as he is as bombastic here as he is over there. I doubt they are real PSU wrestling fans. Probably more so guys who inhabit the free board, kind of like the football and basketball guys you guys complained about above.

I think it's telling just how great this dynasty is now, that the hate is so extreme, that fans of one team have become fans of a totally different team, usually one they have hated, just to root against PSU winning another title. Right now you have Hawk fans who are actually arguing and structuring their OHIO STATE lineups in a collective hope that someone, anyone beats Cael and PSU. Amazing.
I noticed. We have our own fair share. We had to talk a few off the ledge because we only won 2 of 5 finals matches. Can't win them all.

Possible. No matter what my eyes and math tell going into B1Gs or NCAAS my first concern is always what is Iowa going to do?
The Hawks did wrestle a pretty good national tournament, 3 finalists and 6 AAs. I have to admit the realization that they did wrestle a solid tournament and finished 5th does give me a warm fuzzy. Here's hoping the Hawks continue to achieve at similar levels.

That's sorta the problem though for Iowa, and my view is that it stems from recruiting 2nd and 3rd decile wrestlers out of HS. Yeah, they have 3 guys that might be top 2 (not as sure about Clark as others are. Weight fills in next year possibly), but after that, only Brooks and Stoll may be solid top 6 material.
The following was the average points earned by placement at Nationals this year:
1st - 23.4 points, with a range of 20 - 28.5
2nd - 19.7, with a range of 17 - 22
3rd - 16.4, with a range of 13.5 - 20.5
4th - 15.0, with a range of 12.5 - 19.5
5th - 13.2, with a range of 10 - 16
6th - 10.6, with a range of 9 - 13
7th - 7.2, with a range of 6.5 - 8.5
8th - 7.1, with a range of 5.5 - 9.5
Having a bunch of guys in the 7th to 10th range is great for duals, but does less at nationals than one might think. One guy in the finals equals three 7th/8th place guys.

Iowa will need to recruit and get two Zain/Jason types, in their lineup at the same time to have a decent chance against the rest of the top teams. Guys that are quality, but don't put up big points on their way to the finals, will not get it done.
agreed. Of the guys who finished 2nd at nationals, Iowa had the two lowest point earners in Sorenson and Clark. Both garnered 17 points. That's only one MD for each guy on the way to finals. Gilman had 21.5, which is great.
I believe Iowa is very much in the conversation for next year, but after next year it looks on the surface that the Hawkeyes are headed for a huge down turn. Recruiting has been terrible, and there just seems to be a dark cloud over the entire program. I believe facilities probably play a role. The wrestling room is a dungeon and frankly not very nice. There are a couple decent recruits already committed, but neither appear to be NCAA champion type of recruits. 125,133,174,184 all return AA seniors next year. Next year is Iowa's year if Iowa is going to get a title in the next decade imo. I wouldn't bet on it.
I honestly don't see Iowa getting to the number OSU posted this year. Upper 90's. The 3 studs are worth around 55 points. I can see Stoll and brooks bringing another 25, and the remainder of the team another 15. 6 AA'S and 95 points. Of course, if Kemerer or Marinelli wrestle and catch fire, then an improvement is in order, but imo low AA at best in freshman year. Not to mention injury bug. Seems to find Iowa for some reason.
Really isn't a whole lot worth mentioning about Michigan State, so can you blame MSU158 for being relatively quiet on the subject?

He's not the biggest troll. There are far worse trolls out there and there have been far worse historically. He's a burr under the saddle of numerous fans, but he's not even close to the worst troll I've ever had to deal with.
I agree with Jason on this. I read (but don't post any longer as apparently I am banned) themat.com and it has a ton of trolls worse than MSU. Why I am banned and none of them are is beyond me.

Ohio State will give Penn State the stiffest challenge, Oklahoma State will challenge Ohio State for second and Virginia Tech and Iowa will battle it out for 4th and 5th. I think just like this year, Iowa will wrestle a good tournament but they miss the trophy presentation again.
Gilman is the favorite or Co favorite depending on Tomasello weight choice.
Clark as a 2 time finalist is the early favorite, but there will be some good 33 pounders and to win a championship you generally have to score some offensive points.
41 I do not know enough about what they have here, but I doubt it is Montel.
Sorenson will win every match not wrestled against Retherford. Kemerer will be really good, but at best low AA.
Marinelli (sp) should really redshirt but he probably won't and while he will be an upgrade he most likely isn't climbing high up the podium if at all.
Meyer and Brooks will be good, but at best mid lower level AA.
Stoll will win lots of matches, but the next time I watch him initiate an offensive move it will the first.
Bottom line is Iowa will most likely be better, but so will everybody ahead of them. Their collective reluctance (noted Gilman exception) to wrestle initiating offense will hinder them as the rounds march towards the more elite matchups.
Realizing we are more than 11 months out and based on immediately available evidence I believe Iowa will finish off the trophy podium, again.
Of course I could be full of baloney.
