2024-25 Lineup (The Dynasty Continues)

This was from Flo in February:

Ahead Of Schedule

Shayne Van Ness sported a leg brace that appeared to allow an almost full range of motion as he headed into the wrestling room for practice on Tuesday.

It’s been rare to see Van Ness without a smile in the room when it is open to reporters. Maybe that’s odd for a wrestler considered a rising star who had this season — what was supposed to be his coming-out year — cut short by a knee injury. Not to the guys who really know him, Sanderson would say.

There’s more to that, though, and there may be a silver lining to the decision to shut Van Ness down in order to have surgery to repair something that had been ailing him for quite a while.

“He’s doing really well,” Sanderson said. “He’s ahead of where he probably should be. You hate losing a guy like Shane. Obviously, the energy and just you were seeing where he was trending and how well he was competing, but its going to be nice for him to feel good too, because he always kind of had that bum knee that was an issue for him off and on. Looking forward to getting him healthy and back in here every day.”

I can't wait for SVN to throw Rathjen on his back and pin him in the first!

OT: What is That Delightful Smell? Or, Is Something Burning?

I got tomorrow off for grading, before Spring Break next week. Gonna cook up some chili to end this cold weather and smoke a brisket tomorrow...

So, I get my meat directly from the butcher, as my buddy farms. I let my brisket thaw a bit, and I've noticed some dark spots on the fat cap. It looks not great, but it hasn't left the wrapping/freezer/fridge. I read on google a bit that its semi-normal... Wondering if anybody else has input?

Its not as big as a full brisket, but it's not thin, so I'm assuming it is either tiny or a "point". Gonna give that a run on a pecan/hickory/mesquite blend tomorrow.

RUMSPRINGA!

Big-time gambling scandal may be looming for NBA

Averages 4 points a game, takes himself out, and "a bunch of people bet the under" As if the substitute averages less than 4 points a game? Someone help me here :)

Well they bet the under before he conveniently took himself out, which is the concern.

It all points up how absurd and out-of-control things have gotten...that a bit player averaging 4 points a game could have this kind of potentially-for-profit leverage on gamblers and bookies.

Big-time gambling scandal may be looming for NBA

It is a little shocking in that it's an NBA player...wouldn't be surprised to see this from a lower level college player, but there is so much on the line for an NBA guy that I can't believe that if he were involved in it, that they wouldn't have been a lot more careful about how they did everything.

Agreed...but as Kasp notes above, never bet against the sheer stupidity of...anybody.

I mean, if you've ever watched any of the multiplying brands of true-crime video networks, what jumps out is how totally stupid the perps are...to think that their stories could ever hold any water or allow them to get away away with what they did.

Then again, granted, an increasing number of crimes remain unsolved...uncharged...not even investigated...while a protected class of criminals gets free rein. So there's that too. The feeling of impunity gets contagious at some point.

Jontay Porter. I don't follow the league closely enough anymore to be familiar with the name, but he's a bit player for the Raptors...averages 4 points a game.

The NBA is now investigating two games this year where he played only a few minutes and didn't score before taking himself out of both contests, once due to unspecified illness and once because he claimed to have reaggravated a previous eye injury...though he hadn't been listed on the team's pre-game injury report.

Attention has been focused on a potentially suspicious pattern of prop gambling on both games where big bucks were bet on Porter's under number for points and rebounds. In fact, DraftKings reported that Porter prop bets were the #1 gambling moneymaker for both nights of NBA games.

A source tells ESPN: "People were trying to do whatever they could to bet Jontay Porter props [against the Clippers]...and then, just a few days ago, the same thing. We had for more."

To be clear, there have been no accusations (yet)...nor even allegations. But gosh, it does have a fishy feel to it.

Olympic Trials previews

PSU/NLWC has SIX guys in this (once C-Star is added), including the PSU starters this season at 157, 165, and 174 (and Dake straight to the championship round). That's simply incredible.
(sorry if already posted) Here's the list of the 213 qualifiers as of March 25: https://www.themat.com/news/2024/march/25/2024-u-s-olympic-team-trials-qualifiers-as-of-march-25

Jontay is the interpreter.

Worst way to lose a wrestling match?

IMO, the worst way you can lose a wrestling match is the same as the worst way you can win a wrestling match. That is waiting to actually do anything offensive until the last 30 seconds of the 3rd or until SV. I just can’t imagine being proud of that kind of performance regardless of who wins.

The spladle is certainly embarrassing, but I’d rather get spladled and lose once in a blue moon because I was trying to win rather than trying not to lose and force a 1-1 match into SV.

I think you'd have to be naive to be shocked by this -- granted, I'm a cynic by nature -- but it is a wake-up call of sorts with potentially reverberating consequences.

I mean, the prop betting on player stats is an open invitation to corruption and cheating.

It will be interesting to see where this goes next.
Sarcasm. The stupidity of professional athletes knows no bounds.

Might be up there as one of the worst.

Much worse to get carted out of the arena.

One year at states, Thomas Haines spladled a kid to the hospital. It wasn't vicious -- the poor kid just wasn't flexible enough and tore his groin or hamstring during the roll. The video is probably still out there (maybe on Flo?) but don't watch it with sound. The screaming was awful.

The most embarassing way to lose? Probably getting pinned by someone who is so gassed they can barely stand.

“Stop all prop betting” says NCAA

Horse Sense is what keeps ponies from betting on people.
I just don’t understand the draw of gambling. I was on a golf trip with friends last summer. Several wanted to stop in the local casino after dinner one night. I was bored to near tears watching for about an hour until a few finally decided to leave. Never had the desire to bet a dollar.
I have an extended family member who is addicted and has no interest in stopping. I can’t wrap my brain around that.
I would rather burn my money for a little heat than use it to place a wager.
Horse racing is actually entertaining, particularly the Triple Crown races. Most exciting 2 minutes in sports, right? Somewhat similar vibe to college football. I agree about casinos. I don’t get the attraction. My real problem with gambling is that state governments push it to the detriment of those least able to afford it. Pennsylvania’s recent lottery campaign is downright criminal. They show a beautiful young black woman talking about how great it makes you feel to play the lottery. And then how about the groundhog campaign? Budweiser and Camel were stopped from advertising their products with animal characters because that was grooming kids. But it’s A-OK for the state of PA. It’s disgraceful.
