And of course, the seats are red so they looked like USC fans.

Pretty genius on their part. You really couldn't tell how many empty seats there was. Seemed like if they filled 75-80%, that would be a generous estimate.

TV was mic'd well. It seemed loud at times. Was the stadium loud in comparison to your other game experiences?

PENN STATE USC FILM STUDY

See link above. Normally, we like to have a tighter, more specifc focus for these...but if we did that for this game we'd have left too much on the cutting room floor. So we just examined the key plays from the second half (all offense, except the last play). Thankfully we were able to get non-tv angles of the Warren TD so we could illustrate the acting/showmanship involved in hiding who exactly was snapping the ball.

Beyond that schoolyard play, the thing that comes across snap after snap is how much Kotelnicki gives defenses to process in a matter of seconds...not everything works (sugar huddles - which we did a whole preseason video gashing over - have largely been a dud, for example) but all of it HAS to be mentally and physically draining for defenders.

USC Game Environment

My guess was that it was 30-40% PSU - a huge showing. If all the PSU fans wore white, it would be more visible but many had blue or grey. And of course, the seats are red so they looked like USC fans.

The PSU fans were pretty quiet for the 1st half. They turned it up when the team turned it up.

Tailgating is unique. Nice campus. An oasis in the middle of madness. Vendors can sell beer ($5 Pacifico 12oz cans) and tons of Sonoran Dogs vendors. They are great bacon-wrapped hot dogs.

$20 big beers in the stadium. Subpar food. Antiquated stadium. Cool lighting the Olympic Torch at the beginning of the 4th.

Overall great experience for us. Fans were polite and, I hate that I have to say this but, not a single Sandusky reference. My full writeup will come later this week.

Does anyone else get 1986 vibes from this team?

Thinking about the season on the whole...it's really going to be unlike any we've ever seen. Almost impossible to compare what we're about to do and face with any other season...here's why.

This is going to be more like the NFL where it's two seasons in one.

You'll have the regular season...do we go 11-1 and make the Big Ten title game? Win or lose there...we're still in the playoff.
But my goodness...that's a gauntlet! And we're either Big Ten runner-ups (hopefully) or we're Big Ten champs. But wow...what a stretch.

Then...you might have four--count 'em--FOUR playoff games. Dec 21 on a college campus...Jan 1 in a classic bowl...Jan 9-10 in a semifinal bowl...and then Jan 20 in the national title game!?!?! That's insane. Perhaps 17 games...and you have to win...what?!?1...15 of them probably AT LEAST, if not 16. Talk about a war of attrition.

I know the college competition isn't the same as the NFL week in and week out...but talk about a need for good luck and low injuries...

You almost wonder if there will be an advantage to NOT make your conference championship game to spare you the pre-playoff rigor of one more elite foe!!!! Yes, the winner gets a bye in round 1 and 3 weeks off...but the 3rd place team in the SEC/Big Ten gets an extra week before round 1.
This is a great take. It may end up being like the MLB playoffs, where a bye isn’t necessarily a good thing. Maybe Penn State playing Army in the first round and then moving on to the Fiesta Bowl against Oregon is better than not playing in the first round and then playing the Sugar Bowl against an Alabama team that is coming off a win against BYU.

Is it smart to believe liars?

I admit that I thought that magats weren't completely stupid but seeing them still believing and parroting talking points from Fox News even after they admitted they lied about the 2020 election and even paid $787 million to avoid having to go through a trial I'm convinced that they are all sharing the same brain cell. Anybody with half a brain would be able to see they're being played but instead they're attacking FEMA agents who are there to help them and getting abandoned in the middle of nowhere after a rally. What will it take for them to realize that they're being conned?

FB Recruiting 2025 Ohio DB Josh Johnson commits to Penn State

Disappointing. This is the kinda guy that you have when your team has “no depth” and big “big drop after the 1’s. Considering we already had 10 3 stars - just way too many stretch recruits for a team ranked #3 in the country.
They have several good DBs committed in that class. The staffs have their own evaluations at camps and other tryouts. In fact, the stars are simply the offers a kid gets. But if the kid doesn’t play the game, he won’t get the exposure/offers. There are tons of services kids families can buy that will get them exposure and offers. I knows guy that doesn’t $20k and got a partial to a Div 2 school and felt it was money well don’t. Don’t forget, a db from u of Toledo was drafted in the first round. The top rated QB in the B1G played for Ohio U the last three years.

Staff had to trust themselves and our DBs have been great the last few years.

No I don’t want to hit on 3 out of 14 if I look at the 3 stars in Warrens recruiting class. Dawkins, Elsdon and Warren and 11 non contributors. And everyone complains about Elsdon that he should never see the field in the weekly game threads.

Good point. How many hits in that class overall?

Typical hit rate in the classes since?

So was McSorely…. Turned not bad! Wasn’t Barkley a three when we first offered him? Fields?

Wat about that unknown QB coming in?

Then there was a little known running back from Meadeville area…..

If somebody wants to review his film and tell me why they don't think he's a take, by all means.

I really don't like people simply looking at a kids ranking and being like "this isn't a kid we should take."

Our staff has done a great job of evaluating prospects. If they wanted him in June, and it took until October, that's fine.
