Worst officiated game against us since OSU 2014

They had them where they wanted them coming out for the second half. Just missed that pass to Warren down the middle. That would have changed everything despite their blunders.
Not arguing that play - it would’ve been a TD and a completely different game.

But immediately following that third down call, the Oregon defender slams Allar after the whistle and nothing was done, while PSU was given FOUR 15 yard penalties in the first half. Missed FG, Oregon TD, and PSU is back to a two TD hole.

A lot went wrong, many missed opportunities, bad play calls - but the refs were also horrific.

Football GAMEDAY THREAD: Penn State versus Oregon in 2024 B1G Championship

Im leaning towards the 2nd. Minus our slow starts, undisciplined penalties, lack of forcing turnovers, suspect coaching decisions, and we were certainly on the wrong side of the whistle tonight, I thought our offense played their best game of the year. Problem is, our slow starts, undisciplined penalties, inability to force turnovers, suspect coaching decisions and being on the wrong side of the whistle are all baked into the cake in big games under James in this conference.
LOL...well said. But, hey, a longer runway will help swing the pendulum of our program.

Football GAMEDAY THREAD: Penn State versus Oregon in 2024 B1G Championship

If you're a Penn State fan you can take this loss one of two ways.

Way 1) Penn State can't still win the big games, there's no hope in the playoffs

Way 2) Penn State went toe-to-toe with perhaps the national championship favorite and if the offense shows up like they did tonight, they can beat anyone.

Interested to see how the reaction is split.

Football How are you feeling going into the college football playoffs?

PSU makes too many blunders in big games and should have run the ball more vs. the Ducks. Blame the officials all you want but it was 28-10 in the second quarter. How many mistakes did Oregon make? No turnovers and 1 major penalty. PSU had 2 TO’s, 4 major penalties, and a missed FG. You can’t do that vs. #1!
Bingo. Was the officiating terrible? Yes. Do we see it all across CFB? Yes. No holding penalties also means none were called against us either...which PSU fans always forget the other side of the equation during their moaning.

U hit it on the head...to get steamrolled early and once again not be ready to go out of the gates is a terrible trait to have. Spotting that team a 28-10 lead, especially with four different personal foul penalties was so typical...and low IQ football from this program. We aren't a very smart or poised team, which also leads to NEVER winning these games since 2016. Let's not forget 4 or 5 drops, which hurt big time. Let's face it, we come up small and have done so since 2016.

Our secondary once again got exposed, as did the lack of LB recruiting and true game changing DL. Haven't seen a worse group of LBs collectively than I have under JF. That's an area (even as much as WR) that really has lacked.

Oregon is really well coached, made virtually no big mistakes and exposed us, particularly on defense, where we have lived with smoke and mirrors vs terrible offenses. We are small on the DL, don't move people, get ZERO pass rush without Abdul, linebackers that don't do much, and a secondary that gets cooked in games like this. IMO, we have a long way to go from a team construction/design to move the needle.

This sums up CJF

Allar was throwing off his back foot at the crucial times, and it cost them.
Allar was the least of our problems. We put up 37 (should be 38) and he accounted for 4 scores.
People have to learn the game beyond "let's blame the QB"
It's also funny because the national narrative today is "Allar has the more upside than Sanders or Ward", "Allar reminds me of Josh Allen", "Allar gives Penn State a chance to contend for a title" yet our fan base, maybe because they haven't seen a good QB in 30 years believes Allar is either the problem or part of it. Only here.

Big Game James - Now 13.6% win rate in these games…

I’ve been a Franklin defender for a long time now. He really has many outstanding attributes; an extraordinarily hard worker, a man of great integrity and class, a fantastic teacher of and role model for young men, a sensational recruiter, an excellent eye for talent, a strong advocate for the football program and a terrific representative of my Alma Mater.

Sadly, what I’ve also learned watching him all these years is he is indisputably bad at in-game coaching decisions including when to go for it on fourth down, when to go for a 2 point conversion, time management and when to challenge a call, for example.

As a fan, it’s extremely frustrating because of all that he does so well, yet ultimately falls short in big games because of poor in-game decisions. Should he be fired? No, that’s not fair. Will he learn from his mistakes and make better in-game decisions? He hasn’t shown that ability as of yet.

He needs to end the dancing, show boating, and bush league taunting ala the shit hole PiT.

Against Oregon

So not only did you illustrate a complete lack of understanding of the college playoff/bowl system, but you whiffed on just how outclassed we’d be. We played like poo in a number of areas, and we’re still within a TD of the Ducks, driving with the ball to tie the game.

You nailed this thread like the aliens nailed you with that probe.

Regardless of the outcome We took a hosing from these officials

With all of the zebra issues we were still down 1 score with the ball at midfield on our last possession vs the unquestioned #1 team in the country.

Two unfortunate face masks and the personal foul on 71 had to be called and were on us.

We can play with anybody- gotta WIN one or two games at least to get the flow going and who knows...

This is why I wasn't all that thrilled to make the CCG

Even though our loss was just as close as anybody else’s a championship game, I think SMU and Penn State get penalized for their championship game losses while other schools do not. Based on what I saw in championship games today the 12 teams that would have been in should all still be in. The only team that played in a championship game today that should be out of the top 12 as Iowa State.

You guys do know that statistically the probability of winning the game goes up if you convert the two point conversion that they tried. Are you not watching other college and NFL games since that’s what coaches are doing? If you are down to scores you go for two there. If you go to the other site, you can see a thread showing all of the probabilities.

This is why I wasn't all that thrilled to make the CCG

We'll be on the road today but wanted to get a comment in.

I posted here last week but didn't want to make a big deal of the fact that there was an argument to be made we'd be better off if Ohio State had beaten Michigan and gotten the high honor of appearing in a 13th game.

I mean, we had a great 11-1 regular season...looking at a likely #6 playoff seed. Everyone feeling pretty good.

Then we end up having to play a largely meaningless CCG as an underdog. We get the predictable hose job from league refs. Mistakes. Recriminations. Complaints. All-around sour taste in the mouth. We go into the playoffs on a down note while at best we looking at a #6 seed...possibly 7 or even 8. (I do think the home game is safe.)

Who needs it.

Just get me away from this conference's refs and let us play on an even field.
