I am happy about the Cotton Bowl..

for a number of reasons.

1) I really don’t give a damn about the Rose Bowl at all. Most years it is not a better bowl than the Cotton, because the Big and PAC representatives, especially in the CFP era, are never clearly better than the teams in the rest of the country. Its “prestige” is a product of hype.

2) Because we are obsessive fans of Penn State we overestimate the value of beating a “name” team over just winning a bowl game. Recruits are going to see we won 11 games. That will keep the recruiting progress going which will in turn keep us closer to closing the gap on the top 4 or 5 programs. We have a better chance to beat Memphis than Oregon. All that matters is the 11 wins. What recruit knows who we played two years ago in a bowl?

3) Playing against a new opponent is cool.

4) We haven’t played in the Cotton Bowl since the 1970s. I am going to go get a cool new T Shirt.

5) **** the Big. Hope Wiscy gets motor boated by Oregon and O$U humiliated by Clemson. All I care about is We Are.

Biggest Upsets??

A couple of the threads on this forum got me thinking about upsets. My question is, "what are your most memorable wrestling upsets?". By memorable, I mean the biggest … where a significant, and highly, highly favored guy lost.

An internet search provided one person's top three, so they'll surely be on some lists (I can provide them later), and I'm sure there will be some PSU emphasis (Conaway & Lynch, for example).

Long Lines at the Creamery

At the dinner table last night the topic of the Berkey Creamery came up. Everyone loves the ice cream, cheese, yogurt, coffee, breakfast sandwiches. The only drawback are the long lines during football weekends, arts fest, graduation. I was joking with my nephew about enrolling at Penn State when he’s older solely so he could design faster lines. My brother replied that the lines are accepted by design for marketing. Subliminally people will see the long lines for the delicious ice cream and don’t want to miss out. What say you?

What the hell are "Dippy Eggs?"

Actually, I got that answer to that question, and a shiat ton of laughs, from looking at a Facebook page called "Meanwhile in Philly." I'm guessing that a number of you have already seen it, but I thought I would mention it here for those who haven't. Some of the posts/pictures are funny as hell. I have posted a few below. I hope they come through.

4. Owning Cowboys fans in five seconds flat.
“Oh, you’re a Cowboys fan. When did you live in Texas? I’ll wait. Oh, never? When’s the last time they won a Super Bowl?” End scene. Drop the mic.

Chicago foodies, what recommendations do you have?

I’m going to be in Chicago in a couple of weeks and would like to enjoy a nice meal. Was thinking about maybe trying the Purple Pig or Girl & the Goat. Both seem like good options, with Purple Pig closer to my hotel. I’m staying in the near north side area intersection of (N Michigan and E Lakeshore). Is there anywhere else that I should consider? Dive recommendations are welcome and appreciated.

WIN Magazine ranks Iowa preseason #1

https://www.win-magazine.com/2019/09/iowa-tops-penn-state-in-wins-2019-20-preseason-rankings/

Notably, WIN doesn't rank RBY at 133 (which might also explain why Iowa tops the rankings), which I can only assume is because they believe RBY is redshirting. I'm not going to read too much into that. I could be wrong but I can't recall WIN ever scooping any PSU-related news.

One thing that gets overlooked about the TD reversal.

It's amazing that they reversed the call. It's also amazing that they place the ball at the half yard line.I might have been more frosted at the fact that we don't have a qb sneak from under center play in the playbook. I love our coach but I think every college football team in the country should have a qb sneak in their package. It's quick with close to a zero percent chance of getting called for holding.

Tom Ryan Article

I know everyone likes to take jabs at Tom related to some of his comments, tweets, etc. but I think we can all agree he's very successful and helped grow the sport. Here is an article that helps remind us that first and foremost the sports figures we love and/or hate are real people.

We Are ...

- curious to see what the PSU representation is in the stands
- wondering what type of changes each team bring to the game, after a bye week
- hoping to see PSU's offense start the game strong
- confident that a White Out looks better on TV than does a Black Out
- unsure which PSU player will have their breakout game of the season, but expect there will be one or two of them
- pretty sure that while Maryland is staging a Black Out, PSU will be Dancing In the Dark
