Penn State sighting on CBS Sunday Morning

Doing a story on a guy that makes incredible weather vanes. He made the shark weather vane for the movie Jaws and that kick started a career making amazing, and expensive, vanes.

He was commissioned to make the Nittany Lion weather vane that now towers ov Beaver Stadium. Showed a very short clip of a crane lifting it in place.

Here's to hoping the 2024 US Men's FS Olympic Team is fielded by 6 Nittany Lion Wrestling Club wrestlers!!

Anniversary.

Of the Pitt Vomit Fest. In a classic move, Paterno was going to reveal a Penn State rival.

Wanny had a big dinner planned at Ruth's Chris. With all the Pitt leeches in attendance, they were eating and drinking.

When Paterno announced Temple as the opponent, Wanny threw up on himself. Mrs. Wanny vomited. The Pitt leeches started to vomit.

Other patrons got sick. Pitt had to pay for ruined dinners, ER visits, cleaning bills, and environmental cleaning.

Classic Joe.

FB Recruiting FACT OR FICTION? -- Malachi Goodman is set to become a Rivals250 prospect

Friedman: FACT. After seeing Malachi Goodman for the first time on Wednesday, there is very little doubt he’ll add his fourth star in the next rankings update and making the Rivals250 is certainly a possibility. The 6-foot-5, 315-pound tackle prospect doesn’t carry much bad weight and has outstanding movement skills for a player his size. Goodman is powerful and showed quick feet and balance when working through various drills. Georgia, Penn State and Auburn (where he’ll be visiting this weekend) are in the best position at this point but USC and Alabama are very much in this race.

O’Leary: FACT. Goodman is one of the best prospects to come out of Paramus Catholic since five-star Rashan Gary back in the 2016 class. He’s a legit 6-foot-5 and weighs in around 315 pounds and holds it really well. He’s also very athletic and possesses a lot of strength to go along with that size, starting with his strong lower body that allows him to move defensive linemen with ease. He’s easily one of New Jersey's best and should definitely be in the Rivals250 in what is one of the deepest classes for New Jersey in recent history.

The Greatest Gift of Wrestling

We're in the spring lull period now where there's no current competition worthy of long threads. However, some of the existing threads have evolved into wonderful stories about great people in the past as well as some good PA wrestling history. That's far more refreshing than reading the garbage that is constantly being fed to us by the corporate media and loosely called "news." Consequently, I thought this would be a good time to write a post about what I think is the greatest gift that wrestling brings to everyone who gets involved.

In many online web sites and forums, you'll often read articles and posts about how wrestling develops character, perseverence, mental discipline, etc. While all of these benefits are definitely there, I think there is another gift from being involved in wrestling that outweighs all of them. That gift is friendships.

When I mentally review all of the people in my life with whom I have or had close relationships, I don't think I'm exaggerating to say that my closest friends were almost all people that I met through wrestling. Some of them were people I grew up with. Others were my teammates through high school and college. And even after I graduated, I continued to be involved with local high school programs as a volunteer assistant coach. Those episodes brought me in contact with new people and over time they also became my good friends.

One of my best experiences occured when my wife and I moved to Bonney Lake WA due to a job transfer. We moved there primarily because a good professional opportunity had become available, and wrestling never entered into my decision process. However, when we got there, it turned out that the local area had some of the best high school teams in the state and my next door neighbor's two sons were both involved in the local high school program. One day soon after we moved in, their coach came by for a birthday party so I had a chance to meet him. He invited me to come to their practices. I didn't do so immediately, but when I watched some of the guys competing, I saw very quickly that they had been very well coached. So I figured that if I got involved with their program, it would be a good way to establish a connection with people in the community. That choice turned out to be a gold mine. I can't say enough good things about the people, the community and the school district. We've moved on since that time, but I still keep in close contact with a lot of the people who live there. I also made it a point to drive a few hours to CA high school tournaments where Bonney Lake had come to compete.

Since I've joined this forum, I've gotten to know quite a few people by their online personalities. The only person I've actually met live is 1AA who lives in Eastern WA. We met at one of the Las Vegas Men's Open tournaments, and after talking for a few minutes, I realized who he was. Even though my connection to everyone else here is only through text messages, I feel I've had enough communication with everyone to consider them a new group of friends.

So looking back over my own wrestling history, that's by far my biggest and best takeaway from the sport. But I'll bet that if you were to ask any of the guys who have won the big medals at either the NCAA tournament or even the Olympics, they would definitely consider the friendships they made over the years through wrestling to be a big part of their life.

Well that's my initial input on this subject. Anyone else care to give their thoughts?

Ryan Day's job at Ohio State

Ohio State is going all out to win a national championship at football this year seemingly even more so than most years. It drives Buckeyes fans bat sh*t crazy losing to Michigan the past three years (to me Michigan's win are tainted) but unless vacated a loss to Michigan is still a loss.

In theory, Ryan Day could lose to Michigan in the regular season, and could also lose to Michigan in the Big 10 championship game (unlikely but the possibility exists). It's also possible that Ohio State could still go on to make the college football playoff and win the national championship.

Would Ohio State fire Day if he loses to Michigan twice this year (which would make five consecutive losses to the Wolverines) despite winning the national championship? Would he be fired if they made the national championship game and lost? Would making the college football playoff be enough to keep his job? Does he have to beat Michigan to save his job despite making the playoff and any playoff success? Your thoughts?
