Michigan and refs squeaked out wins agains USC and Minnesota

Why is it the same team that keeps showing up season after season— teams that get screwed complain to BIG commish and they bring in instant replay to college, now onside kick refs. PSU has been screwed royally at least four times out of wins- Illinois last year — illegal pick play led to their narrow win over Illinois. SC realized you have to win by two scores to have a chance— they had stopped Scum on 4th and one and TV announcers were shocked when UM got a first down by blind refs which led to TD after, and UM got away with flagrant facemasks about three times on the SC QB. All
part of the process— sign stealing to good old ref fixing games. Hope Washington upsets the cheaters.

FB Recruiting Will soon be FutureCasting...

2026 Harrisburg ATH Elias Coke to land with the Nittany Lions. Coke has been trending towards Penn State for a while and the Nittany Lions are willing to take the in-state athlete to join their 2026 recruiting class, where he would join his teammates in RB Messiah Mickens and OL Kevin Brown. Coke is coming off his second visit in as many weeks for Penn State and as of last check, was expected to be on campus for the UCLA game. He told me recently that he'd be announcing a top schools list but I believe a commitment could be coming sooner than later for the star athlete.

Blue ridge vacation disaster

I planned this vacation all year. I had to cancel all my reservations. All travel east of I77 is closed or limited. I am changing my plans and will do the Shendoah valley and West VA. I'll do the Blue Ridge next year.

After WVa, I'm going to State C college for 3 days. I am looking to buy 1 ticket to the UCL game. I attended a UCLA gane as an undergrad in the 1960s. I think we won 17-14. I can climb but have poor balance for walking down. This is pretty common at 80 years. I was able to buy a club seat for the Auburn game. I would worry about huting people if I fell on the way down. The club section has rails to hold on to.

Football Big Ten Report Card: September grades for each program

@Adam Gorney grades each Big Ten program's recruiting class + performance on the field thus far.

FULL LIST: PENN STATE'S 2025 RECRUITING CLASS

In a game that was interrupted by a lengthy weather delay, Penn State looked sharp in a 35-12 win over West Virginia to start the season but in a much-closer-than-expected game against Bowling Green and in a 21-7 win over Illinois on Saturday night, the Nittany Lions have not been clicking on all cylinders. Trips to USC and Wisconsin come up in October and then Ohio State visits Happy Valley as we’ll learn much more then.

By comparison, Penn State has had a busy month on the recruiting trail landing two pledges led by four-star offensive lineman Malachi Goodman along with three-star Matthew Outten as the Nittany Lions are No. 14 overall in the team rankings.

Could Have Been’s

Flo posed an interesting question to their staff today: Who would’ve been the best wrestler of all time if not for injuries?

To modify that question slightly: In your opinion, who would’ve been the best wrestler if not for injuries, run-ins with the law, pursuit of another career, etc.? For my money, it’s Joe Russell. Cade Olivas would probably be my second pick.

The Offensive Line!

For me, the most impressive aspect from the game this weekend, without a doubt, was the run blocking of the O-Line. Despite the seeming lack of a dominant OT (a la Levi Brown, Kareem McKenzie or Olu Fashanu), they absolutely dominated Illinois in the run game. They had nothing for the PSU run game. Hopefully, the injuries that occurred were minor but our depth is a bonus too, especially on the interior.

Really bodes well for the ROS!

WE ARE!!!

High quality game, worthy of a B1G opener. Quality win.

-- IL is a solid team. They have some players, their coaching is really good, they're going to do some damage this year. Bielema and Franklin are friends and have a ton of respect for each other. Bielema's postgame comments were very insightful and he is definitely a fan of what Franklin's accomplished at PSU.

-- Las Vegas wasn't crazy after all. With a solid kicker PSU would have probably beat the spread. PSU was dominant up front on both sides of the ball, and you combine that with the home crowd, this wouldn't have been a nailbiter if not for the defensive mistakes.

-- As good as this defense looks on paper, we know from watching them that they're really not that good yet. Maybe that's a good thing -- there is lots of upside. We haven't seen #11 or #13 play their best football yet.

-- This was another high water mark for the OL. If IL D played straight up, PSU OL just manhandled them. Very interesting gameplan from PSU, but I guess PSU had a lot of respect for the IL secondary, and plus, if you can run the ball for 6-7 YPC, you take that.

-- IL showed huge respect for the PSU secondary, which makes sense since PSU had I think 4 INTs last year out of Altmyer. I thought they'd open it up especially in the 4th quarter with those big wideouts, but by then their pass protection was breaking down.

-- I would have expected that a low-scoring, clock-eating game like this favored IL but clearly PSU wanted it, which is interesting and unusual. It was a little like Iowa last year where PSU was willing to be patient because they were confident they could push them up and down the field. And the strategy really was sound -- done in by the FG misses. Would have been a very different game pressure-wise if they'd been up by 16 instead of up by 7 in the 2nd half.

-- Allar just isn't very sharp throwing the ball when he's under any pressure at all. His accuracy problems continue and I don't know if that is going to improve at this point in his career. You have to wonder how he was so highly rated as a HS quarterback -- I guess it's his size and arm strength, but was he more accurate in high school? Anyway, PSU has to overcome this with running game, Warren running the option etc. Allar is not a bad quarterback, he's a gamer, he's a good team leader, but I don't see him winning games throwing the ball against top tier competition IMHO.
