Who else feels sorry for Heather Lyke?

On a scale of 1 to 10, her level of regret for taking the Pitt AD job has to be about 22. Good news for her though is that a great opportunity for a lateral move just became available as Northwest Rhode Island Community College AD position was just posted on LinkedIn as NWRICC just elevated their athletic department by adding bowling to their badminton team to double their intercollegiate sports portfolio.

2017 NCAAs Session 6 Thread

Wrestling starts at 8 pm EDT.

TV - ESPN

Video Stream - ESPN3

Audio Stream - Byers will be streamed for free at this link:

http://www.gopsusports.com/collegesportslive/?media=550917

GoPSUnow indicates that the audio stream will start at 7:40 pm EDT

These are the championship bouts. Only one mat will be set up at the arena. They are starting at 197, and will finish with 184. As such, no PSUers will be wrestling in the first 5 matches, and then there will be a PSUer wrestling in each of the last 5 matches.

PSU has locked up the team championship before the start of the finals. If I recall correctly, they have in past years ended ESPN coverage during the team celebration after the trophy is awarded, but it has been shown on the video stream, or on another ESPN channel.

As in each of the previous Sessions, please keep all comments about the matches, PSU wrestlers, non-PSU wrestlers, TV coverage, Byers' comments, etc. in this thread.

PSUers will be favored in some of their bouts, and will be underdogs in others. Win or lose, let's keep in mind that we won the team trophy, and the respective PSU wrestler came in either 1st or 2nd. In short, let's have some fun tonight.

Lastly, as has been the custom in past years, I will not do PBP in the Championship matches. While I'm likely to post during the finals, I want to sit back and enjoy the matches, and not be struggling to key in what is taking place on the mat.

2018 NCAAs -- Session 4 Thread

I'm setting this up in advance, but will be providing PBP during the Session.

please use this thread to discuss the matches of PSU wrestlers, matches of interest by other wrestlers, etc. If responding to a post, please use the Quote function. I'll post Mat assignments as I find them, but others are welcome to post that as well. I'll provide PBP as best as I can (I expect to be good for all matches, unless two PSU wrestlers are wrestling at the same time).

They'll reduce the mats by 2, thus only using 6 mats. Consolation R4 matches will take place on Mats 1, 2, 5, and 6, while the Semi-finals will take place on Mats 3 and 4. After Consy R2 & the Semis are completed, they'll conduct Consolation R5 bouts on all 6 mats.

Time:
8 pm EDT

TV:
ESPN

Video Streams:
All mats will be streamed on ESPN3. if you want to watch the PSU wrestlers in Consolation R4 matches, this is your best bet, as ESPN usually focuses on the Championship bracket matches, unless there is a lag before the next weight class is started.

Audio Stream:
Byers's radio PBP will be streamed for free, starting at 7:40 pm, at the below link:

Following Mat Assignments:
They are provided on TrackWrestling via the Dashboard, on FloArena, on the Penn State Wrestling Club's web site, and on the Penn State Wrestling Twitter account. Just open a bunch of windows, and you'll find where the next match involving a PSU wrestler will take place

Following Team Scores:
They are provided on the Penn State Wrestling Club's web site, on TrackWrestling, and scroll periodically atop the ESPN TV coverage

Mat Assignments Already Determined:

- Nick Lee's R4 Consolation will be the 3rd match on Mat 1
- Zain's Semi-Final will be the 4th match on Mat 3
- Nolf's Semi-Final will be the 5th match on Mat 4

Myself and others will post them as we know them. You can get them from multiple sources. TrackWrestling's Dashboard is a good source.

Team Score:
that can be followed on Track, or on the Penn State Wrestling Club web site

On a personal level, I expect to be able to provide PBP for Sessions 1, 2, 3, and 4. I'll miss Session 5. Lastly, while I'll create a Session 6 Thread, by tradition I don't provide PBP during the finals.

I believe Tim Owen is at the Q, and he should be posting his observations during the Sessions.

We Are ...

- ready to watch the Nittany Lions
- looking forward to observing PSU wrestlers get bonus points whenever possible
- wish the seniors well, as they wear the PSU singlet for the last time at NCAAs
- curious to see how active Nolf is in R1
- chuckling that Rasheed has decided to wear a hair net
- so ready to see 3 days of elite wrestling
- expect the team title race to be quite a battle
- hopeful that PSU's true freshman, Nick Lee, handles his first NCAA tourney like a veteran
- so happy Nationals are about to start

OT: Questions for hunters and farmers...

If you are a hunter, would you like to make your own decision about whether or not it's appropriate to hunt on Sunday in PA (as long as it was within legal season)?

If you are a farmer, are you categorically opposed to the thought of hunting on Sunday, or would you be OK with certain limited hunting on Sunday on private land (where the land owner gave permission)? Would increased penalties for trespassing make you more willing to accept hunting on Sunday?

Obviously, I can't limit the responses to just hunters or farmers, so if you respond, can you please indicate whether you are a FH (farmer/hunter), FNH (farmer/non-hunter), NFH (non-farmer/hunter), or NFNH (non-farmer/non-hunter). If you don't indicate otherwise, I will assume that you are a NFNH. Also, if you don't live in PA, please indicate that in your response as well.

OT: Big Lebowski Turns 20 - some trivia to pass the time

if you haven't seen the film, then you're out of your element!!

In honor of Big Lebowski's 20th Anniversary, here are some fun trivia questions:

#1 - of all the major cast members, excluding Tara Reid, who has NEVER been nominated for a Golden Globe or Oscar??

#2 - What day is it already, dude?

#3 - What is distinctly odd about the title of the film?

#4 - What minor character is also a Professor at Hogwarts?

#5 - Sam Elliot and Ben Gazzara also appeared in another cult film called . . . ?

#6 - How much is The Dude's check to Ralph's?

#7 - What's the score of Donnie's last roll? (BONUS: what does this signify?)

#8 - Which famous bowling President appears on a poster on the Dude's wall?

#9 - What famous musician actually loses the toe?

#10 - and for the fellas, what porn star appears in "Logjammin'"?

B1G Championships Trip Report

Just home, great trip. Anyone that gets the chance, should try the Big Ten Championships. Minnesota next year is a hike for most, but it should be at our place the following year. Tickets were inexpensive (only $25 for seniors, 55 and over, $40 otherwise), and we've never had trouble getting reasonably priced hotels.

It was an easy trip to East Lansing from State College area. Talked wrestling most of the way, so time passed quickly. Arrived in time Friday to get a good nights sleep before Saturday's action.

The venue was terrific. These Big Tens were well attended, with many in the upper deck. The Breslin Center is a good design for fans, no bad seats.

Of course the wrestling is the best in the country, and all-in-all, great fun. Lots of threads and posts about the wrestling, so limited comments here...
-- The Carson Kuhn story did not have a happy ending, wrestling-wise, but man, what a nice young man with a great family. Met his wife, daughter, and mom too, and just another example of the type of person attracted to the PSU program. One bout, and maybe a close call on a review away from the big dance. I'm sure he's hurting, but has no regrets.
-- Jason Nolf, after going two bouts, was unaffected. After forfeiting, he was always near the action with his team-mates, still in the brace, but having fun, as these guys do. Again, no ill effects, as we had a chance to watch him all of day 2, just to our right...very good sign. We saw what everyone else saw with his wrestling, and are excited that he gets 12 days (after Saturday's action) to continue his recovery.
-- We noticed a lot more full-nelson calls. I believe we saw 4 in the tournament, which is a couple more than any of our group saw in all our years of Big Ten and NCAA action. I wonder if there was a focus on this...sure seemed like it.
-- Only 1 Neutral Danger Zone call that we remember, all weekend, with something approaching 300 total bouts watched. It was a non-issue, as it appears the guys have adapted, and turn whichever direction keeps them away from exposure, yet still fighting off takedowns.
-- I wish you could see these guys after even 3 matches, and the physical beating they take. Might humanize them for some.

Everyone was friendly, from all we met at the arena, the hotel, the restaurants, and wherever else we meandered. Didn't get to see much of the campus unfortunately, which is something I always enjoy. We took over most of two hotels, but shared them with Ohio State and Iowa fans, who were also friendly from my experience.

Next up...NCAA's!!

IMar

IMar is super tough and should be Cenzo’s biggest challenge of the year. I’ve been worried about this matchup in light of Cenzo’s recent close calls. But watching IMar’s matches today I found him to be underwhelming. He struggled against #8 White (NEB), winning a close match 7-3. He was down early to #4 Lewis (RU) but hit one big move and ended up winning
8-5.

Anyone have a different impression? What does Cenzo need to do to beat him tomorrow?

Team Points:
The best way to follow this is via the Penn State Wrestling Club web site

I should be available to do PBP for the entire Session. However, my house is is one of the lucky ones in my neighborhood that did not lose power, and my lovely wife has invited some friends that are without power over for dinner, so I can't promise that I can do PBP for all of the matches. If I get to a situation where I can't do PBP, I'll post as much.

How to respond to a really stupid post on that other wrestling forum

After reading some really unbelievable posting going on over there, I gleaned several responses that I feel would be appropriate. Hats off to who ever originated these great comebacks

* I was hoping for a battle of wits but it would be wrong to attack someone who’s totally unarmed.

* Stupidity’s not a crime, so feel free to go.

* It’s kind of hilarious watching you try to fit your entire vocabulary into one sentence.

* I could eat a bowl of alphabet soup and shit out a smarter statement than whatever you just said.

* Please, save your breath. You’ll probably need it to blow up your next date.

* You have your entire life to be a jerk. Why not take today off?

* I’m trying my absolute hardest to see things from your perspective, but I just can’t get my head that far up my ass.

.* Sometimes it’s better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you’re stupid than open it and remove all doubt.

* If ignorance is bliss, you must be the happiest person on the planet.

* If I threw a stick, you’d leave, right?
