2005 Michigan vs. PSU game bad calls in GIFS

Very nice that you can find many/most of our full games on Youtube now.

...going to go back through some of these games and then we can put a little meat behind some of the arguments about the officiating we've received. Then we can move, hopefully, beyond the HERP DERP CONSPIRACY LOL TIN FOIL HAT comments. But probably not, right?

The 2005 game was notable for the horrible spots we received throughout, and a crucial fumble by Mike Hart in Michigan territory in the 4th. The call was not reviewed, though replay was available at the time. I didn't included all the bad spots, there were more.

Very helpful spot for Michigan on 3rd down in their territory.

Of course, the spots for us went the other way. Catches the ball on the other side of the sticks, and this ref marked even back beyond where he was put on the ground after being forced backwards. Should have been a first down.

This was the "crooked walk" from this ref that was commented on by the announcer. Looked like he came up just short of the first down, in Michigan territory, on 3rd down. The gif can be only 5 seconds, but the ref continued walking on an angle to mark him for a first down. Would have been a punt.

This was the killer. Ball was clearly knocked out before Hart was down, and Penn State recovered it. Would have been PSU ball in Michigan territory in the 4th quarter. Believe Michigan scored a field goal on this drive. Should have been reviewed at minimum, was not reviewed. If that is called correctly, or reviewed as it should have been, PSU probably wins the game and goes undefeated that season, making it to the National Championship game. We finished the season 12-1, ranked #3.

November 22, 1963

It was mild November Friday afternoon on campus. I was walking between classes between the old Electrical Engineering Building and Hammond, with my thoughts on going to Pittsburgh for the Penn State Pitt game at the end of the day.

I was suddenly aware that many students were walking along with transistor radios next to their ears.
My first thought was what is going on , the World Series was last month. I ran into a guy from my freshman dorm floor . Someone who I hadn't given much thought since my freshman year but who I now remember forever. I said what is going on ? He said the President has been shot.

A day and happening that is ingrained in my mind as any sporting event I've ever followed.
Obviously , more impactful than Maz's home run or the immaculate reception.

Former Wisconsin LB DeAndre Levy's "Proudest Moment" in College: Breaking Joe Paterno's Leg

Login to view embedded media From the article in Men's Journal:

Born and raised in Milwaukee, where his mother is an assistant at a medical office and his father works on the line in a steel factory, Levy was a star linebacker at Wisconsin.

He was most famous for a 2006 play against Penn State, a sideline tackle that accidentally drove him into coach Joe Paterno, breaking JoePa’s left leg.

Ten years later, Levy now calls that incident “my proudest moment in college,” as history has since revealed Happy Valley’s sad secrets.

“That dirtbag, man,” says Levy of Paterno, who was recently implicated as being aware of child sexual abuse committed by his assistant Jerry Sandusky as early as 1976. “We’ve gotta stop prioritizing sports over humanity,” says Levy. “Just because somebody can throw a football or coach football, they’re excluded from their wicked acts.”

Hunting Hitler. In search of the truth.

I am skeptical by nature. I am not naive. Any world leader worth his salt would have an escape plan. Fact: forty some German U-boats were unaccounted for at war's end. Fact: public sightings of German U-boats in Argentina post WWII, and not always off some remote beach. Regarding Misiones, Argentina, why would a two-story structure with 4 foot reinforced walls have windows!? It makes no sense. And why would china uncovered on site by archeologists bear the mark "Made in Germany" if it weren't made for export? Things that make you go hmmm. That said, it's entirely possible Hitler escaped Berlin via aircraft and received temporary asylum from Franco. And if he made it that far then it's probable he could hide from society until his natural demise some years later. After all, the world is a big place in which to hide, particularly before the advent of satellite surveillance. Exhibit A: Osama bin Laden. It's worthy of skeptical consideration. I thank you.

Appreciation for where we've been and where we are Thread

There are arguments between PSU Fans on whether PSU should make the playoffs if they win the Big 10. Now it's a National conversation, with analysts throwing in their opinions.

Lets stop arguing and appreciate the privilege we get to even argue about this and be part of the conversation. Congrats to James Franklin, his staff, and the players for giving us fans this privilege. I love my fellow PSU brethren and any argument is all love. Let's treat it like arguing between with your best friends or sibling.

Heard another CFB analyst say today that if PSU and OSU both win out,

and PSU wins the championship game, he would "have to" pick OSU to be ranked higher than PSU because "Ohio State is the better team."

Understand, if both teams go to the championship playoff, all this will mean is that OSU gets to duck Alabama in the opening round.

"Win out, make them pick the team that lost on the field." RUTGERS.

College Football Playoff ranking released tonight

Any predictions on where Penn State is placed?

Last week, Penn State was #10, but will jump at least #8 Texas A&M and #9 Auburn who both lost. This would put Penn State at #8 with moving up over those 2, but will they have Oklahoma jump Penn State after their win over Baylor?
I also wouldn't be surprised to see PSU jumped over Washington after their first loss to USC, since obviously the committee has no respect for Washington's weak strength of schedule.

I don't see the other 2 (Michigan and Clemson) dropping too far with their losses now, but I also can see both losing another before the season is over.

My top 10 College Football Playoff ranking prediction for this week:
1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. Louisville
4. Michigan
5. Clemson
6. Wisconsin
7. Washington
8. Penn State
9. Oklahoma
10. Colorado

Barron Letter on Presidential Election

To the Penn State Community:

After the longest and most difficult presidential campaign in recent history, the ballots have been counted, the final speeches have been delivered, and our nation must begin to heal as we prepare for a peaceful transfer of power.

Given the tight and contentious race, I know that many of you are disappointed and disheartened with the outcome, while others see this as an opportunity to strengthen our great nation.

Regardless of who you supported during the election, I urge you to focus on your role as part of the Penn State community, and to reflect upon who we are as Penn Staters.

Just last month, thousands of Penn State students, faculty and staff joined together to embrace the vision for a just and unified university. In the historic All In kick off, we affirmed the value of a diverse and inclusive university. We celebrated our community and its amazing potential for good, as well as the courage of our convictions to be a national leader in diversity and inclusion efforts.

As Penn Staters, we have been interconnected throughout our shared history, and we are resilient. When we say “We are Penn State,” we are “All In.”

I am proud to be a part of a university that respects and values the views of others, and I take great comfort in our nation’s democratic process. It is a privilege to vote, and it is a privilege to live in a country where we can voice differing opinions openly. This is a freedom we should never take lightly.

I hope you will take this opportunity to share your ideas, to listen and to learn. We encourage our offices and departments to create supportive spaces for students, faculty and staff to discuss their reactions to the election. For those who feel they need additional support services, please call Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at 814-863-0395.

OSU fan coming in peace

I visited this broad last week and do throughout the year. I was out of town and not able to watch the game live but followed it on the Internet. Took me a couple of days to watch when I got home for what I knew was an inevitable loss. Thought only fair on my behalf to come back and congratulate your team for their effort and win.

I fear that this Buckeye team may have 2-3 losses by year's end if they can't figure things out. But with 44 freshman it's not surprising that there are growing pains. If PSU can springboard off the win and continue to improve, Michigan doing what they are doing this season, if this Dantonio team is more fluke than what to expect most seasons, and the Bucks are able to learn from this season when they have 44 sophomores sprinkled in the 2 deep, it should be a wild ride with plenty of good football the next few seasons in the Big. Good-luck and a major injury free season the rest of the way.

OT: Hershey school spends only a fraction of the money coming into its coffers...

I am sure Ira and Dambly have this on their radar now... after done running PSU into the ground and draining the school of all its money next up will be the Hershey school... Amazing how much money this school has, it's endowment is larger than Penn's. Money flowing into the school from dividends and investments is incredible.

Your favorite toys, or games, as a kid...

The mention of the Cooties game in another thread got me to thinking about my favorite toys, and games, growing up. Below are a few of mine. What were yours?

Mr. Potato Head. Simple, but a lot of fun.

Harvard cancels the rest of their Men's Soccer Season

because it was discovered the men ranked the woman's soccer players by their appearance.

Harvard University suspended its first-place men’s soccer team Thursday for the rest of the season after discovering that players’ crude sexual comments about the women’s team persisted for years, the Harvard Crimson reported.

The online practice of the men rating the women players on their sexual attractiveness was discovered from a 2012 document, but it appeared to “be more widespread across the team and has continued beyond 2012, including 2016,” athletic director Robert L. Scalise said in an email.

“The team will forfeit its remaining games and will decline any opportunity to achieve an Ivy League championship or to participate in the NCAA Tournament this year,” he wrote.

OT - I'm Curious... Where did your BWI handle come from?

I've grown quite accustomed to seeing a number of the handles on this board over the past 15 + years, even though I didn't post much until recently. In seeing some of the regulars on here over the years, I've always created an image in my head of what people actually look like.

It got me thinking... What's the story behind your handle?

Mine's pretty simple. I was a diehard 15 year old kid that was completely jacked to start the 2001 season with a rare night game against the #2 ranked Miami Hurricanes, scoring a late b-day present from my dad to attend on the 40 yard line. Will never forget Adam running out of that tunnel.

Also, I like that you can see when people joined.

The August 17th, 2001 next to my handle is somewhat creepy for me... 2 reasons:
  1. I can't help but think of the horrible tragedy that would take place less than a month after creating this account. It was a completely different world prior to 9/11, which feels like so long ago... but I can actually say reading this forum was a part of that world! There's not many other examples of that in my life.
  2. This board has been part of my life for HALF of it!.. I just turned 30 in June.
Here's to the next 15 years folks!

OT: The plague of fake news is getting worse -- here's how to protect yourself

See the link below. From the article:

"As soon as I spoke about this on television on Sunday, CNN detractors filled my inbox with messages saying that CNN is the ultimate example of "fake news."

But that's a deliberate attempt to confuse the issue. Whatever faults CNN has, news organizations small and large try very hard to report the truth."
