How long have you been a Penn State football fan and other ?s

I was bored and looked through my old ticket stubs and got to wonder about the other members of the BWI board.

How long have you been a Penn State football fan? For me, since 1968.
When was your first Penn State football game? 1982 my junior year
How many years have you attended at least one home or away game? Every year since 1988 so 26 to be 27
Do you have a consecutive home game streak going? I do not.

Five random thoughts (not deep ones) about the Pirates and baseball.

1. I knew the Bucs had a good shot at losing last night. What really ticks me off is, for the 2nd straight year, in front of a raucous and loving crowd, they got no runs and exactly 4 hits. I don't care who is pitching, being shut out on 4 hits in 2 consecutive Wild Card games is unacceptable.
2. I expect the Pirates to compete again next year but I also expect a drop off. I'm thinking 93 wins. Whether that gets them a WC is questionable.
3. The Cubs will win this Division next year and will probably be the top dog over most of the next 5 years.
4. I hope the Cubs win the World Series but I honestly don't care. I doubt I will watch much of the rest of the post season. I seldom watch games other than the Bucs. I guess that means I'm less a baseball fan than I am a Pirate fan.
5. FINALLY, the best part of this past season was not Bucco wins and losses, but sharing those ups and downs on this Board with all the Pirates fans. I won't list names for fear of missing someone, but you all know who you are. I hope we're all still here this time next year to share the joy of a World Championship, but no matter what the outcome, we are bound by our love for a group of over paid, underproducing, millionaire ballplayers. We must be crazy!

FC: Sandusky Sex Tape and Ira Lubert

I just listened to Ziegler’s appearance yesterday on Kevin Slaten’s show. Ziegler discusses the Sandusky sex tape and how Heim was apparently ready to come to Sandusky's defense when everything hit the fan in November 2011, but was told not to defend Sandusky because a contact of Heim’s, who was apparently close to Ira Lubert, told Heim there was a sex tape of Sandusky with a boy. Heim relays this story to Ziegler, who tries to convince Heim that the story can’t be true since there would be no way such a tape would not have surfaced already given the fire storm around this affair. Heim apparently refuses to believe Ziegler and doesn’t believe his friends at PSU would mislead him. Ziegler indicates that he basically pesters Ira Lubert to confirm if a sex tape ever existed and after a number of attempts in trying to get Lubert to respond, Lubert finally sends Ziegler an email indicating that no sex tape exists. If Ziegler is telling the truth (no reason to expect he isn't), where did this whole sex tape story come from and what role did Ira Lubert play in disseminating it? I find it a very bizarre story.

As a side note, Ziegler discusses the pennlawfumble article and indicates it was written by a prominent lawyer in Northern California, but he does not appear to know who it is. He relays an interesting story that he spoke to Dick Vermeil about the whole Sandusky case and Vermeil (who wrote the introduction to Sanduskys book) told Ziegler that Herman Edwards mentioned to Vermeil a while back that there was a lawyer in California that was going to blow the whole case against Sandusky wide open. So according to Ziegler, Edwards knows who the lawyer is who wrote the article. Ziegler attributes this to Edwards being from California, but he gets it wrong when he indicates Edwards attended Cal – Edwards attended San Diego State (he is from Monterey though). Just found it interesting that Herman Edwards of all people is linked into this whole mess.

NotPSU: Heim's story doesn't hold (shower) water

Bruce Heim states no one at The Second Mile thought "Jerry was a pedophile." The "red flags" in the charity's financial records tell another story.

By
Ray Blehar

In August 2012, Bruce Heim called the 2001 incident a "nonstarter" because he saw kids showering with Sandusky a over a five year period.

More recently, Heim doubled down on the incident not being a big deal when he repeated to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette that the 2001 incident was no big deal because "at the YMCA men shower with kids every day."

Heim also claimed that Penn State's AD TIm Curley told his charity that nothing inappropriate happened.

Of course, if that were true, then why did Curley bother to meet with the charity to inform them that Sandusky was banned from using the facilities with Second Mile kids?

Heim's story doesn't hold (shower) water.

Would you be ok with selling corporate naming rights for Beaver Stadium?

All this talk about renovate vs rebuild the Beav and I saw a Penn State source in the articles say they need 'creative financing'. IIRC this firm is looking into improvement and funding for not only the Beav but all 18 or so athletic venues on campus.

So would PSU fans be ok with removing the name Beaver Stadium and letting the university sell naming rights to a company like Rutgers 'High Point Solutions Stadium'? Would you be ok with 'Bank New York- Mellon Stadium', 'US Steel Stadium', or 'Merk Stadium', (knowing the name of the stadium may change repeatedly over the years as new companies take over the naming rights)?

TOYOTA drives BIG HOLE in Heim's story

Bruce Heim's statements about The Second Mile's role in the Sandusky had holes so big that you could drive a -- TOYOTA -- through them!

By

Ray Blehar

Yesterday, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reported Bruce Heim's response to the controversy over his participation in Saturday's coin toss at the Penn State - Army game.

It comes as no surprise that Heim skirted his charity's culpability in the matter by hanging his hat on the fact the charity has yet to be charged in the Sandusky matter. However, that by no means is proof the charity did nothing wrong.

The evidence tells quite a different story than Mr. Heim:

Heim issue illustrative of another problem...

A few things to notice:

Ruckus was raised about Heim, numerous outlets notified. And YET, only one that I know of thus far in the MSM, bothered to do a story (PPG). Anyone else notice the collective silence of the local media?

Nothing from CDT/SC.com/PennLive/WTAJ/WJAC ... not a peep. They focused on the bright, shiny object (Beaver Stadium news) and ignored this. Why? Hmmmm. Was it threats from Heim, or PSU (Larry Lokman). Another reason why the truth is so elusive in this issue is the complicity of the local media either hiding the issue or missing it entirely. Would love to know if the stadium issues were planned to be aired yesterday or if it was moved up to obscure the Heim ruckus.

And, finally, for those of you worried about appearances for booing Heim, it won't be aired by ESPN as it will likely be at commercial. And even it is was, why should we care? They played a part in burning down our house. Eff them. And EVEN IF someone makes an issue, let's make sure our social media gurus are out in force saying "they weren't booing the Army, they were booing a man perhaps directly responsible for enabling Sandusky." That should either stop the complaints cold or, better yet, spawn questions about Heim in actual responsible members of the media (if there are any left).
