2017 NCAAs Session 4 Thread

That is what I would hope, but isn't it turning into a lifetime achievement award? Too much BBQ and beer (threw the coleslaw into the refrig for the wife) to look it up.
Tie will always go to the senior. Dean vs. Zain is close enough to give it to the senior. Cox vs. Zain isn't.

Unless every match in consis is a pin, it is clinched.

Mathematically, don't believe that is correct. For example, Okie State has six guys in the consolation semis (12 more consolation matches) and a max point potential of 146. Even if they win every consolation match be regular decision (no bonus), their max point potential drops by 24 (12 x 2), to 122, which is more than PSU's current point total of 121.

And kicks the crap out of them. I just don't get ragging on a guy like Snyder......class act and great wrestler

It's not a rag on Snyder at all

It's an observation about the different disciplines of wrestling

And he weighed more than the guy he just wrestled & moved like his ribs weren't bothering him that much

Honestly....
Take a moment to appreciate tonight. 1. 5 guys in the finals (2nd time in Cael's career?)
2. None of them are Seniors
3. 2 of them are Freshman and 2 are sophomores
4. A 30 point lead DESPITE losing a NC contender and another AA contender.
5. Another sophomore AA.
6. Bonus points

This team/program is truly incredible.

Lol sorry, I was thinking maybe 3 but totally forgot about McIntosh last year

Okie St has 86 points. If the win every match they get to 118.
1 finalist win = 4 placement points
1 wrestling 7th, win = 1 placement point
6 in the consci semi-finals, win the SF match that is 3 placement points secured and 0.5 advancement so 6 wins in consci SF = 21 points.
6 wins in consci finals = 6 × 1 placement point for 6 points.

Live from St. Louis...

Session 4 was awesome. 5 straight weight class wins was hopeful, but not exactly expected.

There's always mixed emotions about the guys that did not reach their dreams, but everyone contributed, and that's important.

Loved Jason's last answer - it is the essence of what the sport is all about. A wrestler is always supposed to work for, and toward, a pin - that is the objective from all positions.

This article is a good contrast to Jason's simple statement which captures what the rules and objective of the ancient sport are all about - HIT THIS HOTLINK.

Read the linked article, then go back and watch Jimmy's match against Jack - this statement in the article perfectly captures what Jack was "rewarded" for in the 2nd Period when he should have been penalized via stalling calls (that was many things, mostly stalling, but certainly not great wrestling):

What was well-intentioned has since morphed into is a series of rides: claws, hooks, low-leg, parallel shifting -- all simple stalling tactics used on top for one man to stay "in control" long enough to grab the extra point.

Hate the way Jimmy's match was called and the bull$hit that refs who call wrestling matches like this encourage, because it sure as hell is not "great wrestling" or what a wrestler should be doing (and certainly shouldn't be encouraged by "rewarding" it rather than penalizing it as the real rules call for). The same official only saw fit to calling stalling on Jack one time for voluntarily backing up all the way off the mat and OB despite Jack doing this upwards of double-digit times! Called it once in the 3rd with like 30 seconds left and on the very next reset Jack did it AGAIN and the point wasn't awarded! Simply disgraceful and terrible officiating imho.

Thanks everyone for the great analysis and insight. It has been an excellent two days of wrestling for this entire team.

some JB audio mixed in with video of matches and presser
plus all the other pertinent info to catch anyone up.

PS- hearing zain basically apologize for celebrating after his pinfall of BS is "fun"
That must be an overwhelming feeling looking over and seeing Cael Sanderson, your coach and one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, giving you a standing ovation and showing that kind of emotion over something you've just done on the mat.

Imagine if this team had a real coach, we'd be super dangerous.

Iowa fans need to borrow a line from Pedro Martinez. 'Just tip my cap and call (Cael) my Daddy'

Pedro inserted the Yankees, Iowa fans can insert Cael

Was curious if someone of this board came up with the Matrix. And if so who was it.
i think it was goldbanger who actually named him

Can't remember anyone who tries, and pulls off I might add, the variety of moves like the Matrix. I've turned to some very knowledgeable guys and asked "What the hell was that move?" and only gotten shrugs in reply.
