2017 World Championships Thread

Espinal (Puerto Rico, NLWC) about to go down on Mat 1 to Turkey, Cox up next there.

Cox gets taken down and turned for 2, and then two more, Finland not playing around here. Cox has his work cut out for him down 6-0.
Cox gets behind near the edge and then flips Finland to close the gap. Gorgeous. 6-4.
Break. A two from Cox would give him criteria.
Cox converts a low single for the 6-6 tie, ahead on criteria.
Another low single near edge, Cox drags Finland back and finishes to go up 8-6.
Minute left, Cox with a big push out point, 9-6.
Final, 9-6. Great comeback.

Gilman will be the next US guy up, on 4, but there seems to be a delay there, not sure why.

cox goes down 6 in 30 secs and from there scores 9 unanswered. still attacking late, looks great.

sweaty very sweaty....must be humid in the arena

On mat 4, this opinion seems to be shared by many. Didn't see it myself but Russia's 86kg Valiev saved by refs.

Here is video. There were two seconds left on clock and somehow the Russian managed to score four. Never mind that there probably wasn't exposure, and he was on his knee, which would make this two.

do calls EVER go against russians....its remarkable how much "luck" they have over the years.

seems like they are letting the qtrs get all caught up and holding a bit before the dash to the finish of this round

They've moved some mat assignments around but all three US guys will be up in a row on Mat 4, Gilman first, on deck.

Also of interest is Rashidov Khinchegashvili on mat 3 right now; if Khinchegashvili wins, Stieber is done.

Rashidov with a shot clock point, up 1-0 at break.
Rashidov with two push out points, up 3-0.
Rashidov with a beautiful takedown out of a scramble, leads 5-0. Minute left.
Khinchegashvili gets a late step out point and goes behind for a takedown. Khinchegashvili looked to have two exposure at the edge with a toss but wasn't challenged at the time, then action resumed, ending match. Then Georgia challenged but it was too late. Rashidov wins 5-3, Stieber back in.

Really looked like it should've been 4 for Khinchegashvili, which would've given him a criteria win.

if the challenge goes against the russian, does the table get roughed up outside.....i swear russia has all the luck

streebler back in if russia can continue on....but he had better get some vit D cause he didnt have a good showing and his road to "bronze" will not be easy

but bronze is a good color for him....so there is that

Gliman Safarov (UZB) on mat 4.
Gilman gets to a leg w a head inside single, converts. 2-0.
Nice whizzer D from Gilman, fighting off some upper body attempts.
Gets to legs again, goes back door, gets two, up 4-0.
Break.
Everything coming up Gilman. TD followed by a trapped arm. 8-0.
Another two, reversal for UZB, 10-1.
Another single, 12-1 tech for Gilman, onto semis.

Can someone start a new Zain thread when he is up....off to work and need a quick way to check on his results. Thanks!

love him or hate him matters not....gillman is looking great and he is lethal on that single. so so strong on that leg.

making the semis ensures gillman for wrestle for a medal.....hard to see where he doesnt get one.

relentless pressure, in great shape and that grip he has on that single is ridiculous.

Gilman really has looked great. Style is actually similar to the int'l guys he's facing. His gas tank and ability to keep getting to that single will serve him well here.
Hak-Jin Jong, NK, up next in semis.

Great job on the updates, tikk..Only had a few mins to check it out this morning, so this was nice to rip through and get a feel for what's going on.

Next time, though, would you please use fewer words? I don't really like to know/understand details. ;)

Gwiz with a quick two vs Mohebi, Iran. These heavys can't match Gwiz's speed.
Action slowing down now, Mohebi on clock. 3-0 Gwiz.
Break.
Again Gwiz converts a low single. 5-0.
Biggest difference in his game is converting those singles. He's always been able to get to legs.
Mehebi goes behind off a stalled single, 5-2, 1:30 remaining.
Another go behind, 5-4, but can't turn Gwiz and time runs out. Gwiz onto semis, 5-4.
Gwiz showed some diminishing gas tank returns late, all four points were him getting stuck underneath a sprawl off his own single leg.

2 into the semis....Gwiz with all the action...but still has to hang on. again love to see active hvys!

Cox up against Baranowski (Poland, in case his name left any question).
Cos chases Baranowski around, gets a leg, gets the step out point, 1-0.
Baranowski on shot clock. 2-0 Cox.
Cox snatches leg but can't do anything with it.
Break.
Cox gives up a TD, grabs a leg and nearly gets his own, settles for a push out. 3-2 Cox.
Cox goes splits to avoid a TD, bounces right up. Have to wonder about that knee.
Cox holds on for 3-2 win, amid much back pedaling in final 45.
Cael throws table, David Taylor bites the head of a child. Cox onto semis.

Rashidov Erdogan (TUR) semi up soon on mat 2. Stieber needs Rashidov here to stay in.

Gwiz going to have a tough match , that Turk is good. Rest of the guys definitely have winnable matches. Could see 2 in finals and 2 wrestling for bronze on day 1.

I need to run out and eat something so will have to watch from my phone instead of the dual screen setup allowing me to do updates.

Steiber will have the Georgian in his first or 2nd consy match if he gets pulled back in so the loss to the Russian put him in a bad spot. Not looking good there, but 3 wrestling for medals is tremendous
