2018 Recruiting Thread

YA, Im calling bullshit. Even if the kid is 100% innocent, it is too late to jump into this class. Possibly in 2019 after a year at a prep school or something, but that is also doubtful as our 2019 DB targets are insane

From what I have been able to read on line, his attorney is saying he was “ coerced “ while some other people around the situation are saying he is innocent.
It can’t be both of those options.

IF the kid is 100% innocent he deserves the opportunity IMO. I cant understand not allowing him to be a part of this if he had no part in any of this.

I agree, if he is 100% innocent. Problem is, NSD is only a week away and there is not a chance that he is cleared by then.

His attorney said no such thing.

Right now it seems we'll not be at the 25 ship level in this class. If Young is completely exonerated, only then should he be considered for a spot. The wheels of the justice system don't usually move quickly so his status will likely be undetermined for some time. 2019 if at all seems the best bet.

Correct. The *prosecutor* said that Young was coerced; Young’s attorney is arguing complete innocence and is saying that it’s not possible to be coerced into something that you had nothing to do with. http://www.pennlive.com/pennstatefootball/index.ssf/2018/01/ex-penn_state_recruit_isheem_y.html

I don’t know what’s going to happen with Young’s situation, but the prosecution has certainly walked back its position quite a bit since the dramatic narrative they wove when he was arrested. I think that says something, and it smells like a plea bargain to minor charges is in Young’s future.

That doesn't matter. He doesn't have to sign next week to play in the fall. The video seemed pretty incriminating. I'm not sure how this plays out, but if he's cleared maybe he should go to a JUCO first to get this all behind him.

Prep school would be a better option in this case. That way his eligibility clock doesn't start.

Because he's qualified academically, that's an option for him? Because SAB is not (the rumor), he needs to go JUCO first? Is that correct?

Hold the scholarship open until it is settled. If settled in the summer, and all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed, I have no problem giving him the scholarship.
Should it not work out by summer, I'm sure there's a walk-on that will accept have a semester or two paid for by the university.

National Signing Day isn't the last day you can sign. I'm not sure what the cut off day is for 2018 but, Penn State can certainly offer him after NSD.

Pretty much. There are cases where a non-qualifier could opt for prep school. Depends on depth of the academic hole.

All this info about the possible reemergence of Isheem Young's recruitment prompted me to take a look at another 2018 castoff, Dorian Hardy. He's the one from Paramus that beat the daylights out of a couple of 14 year olds, allegedly, and then Franklin pulled his scholarship. Wouldn't you know it, it appears Pitt is recruiting him and his interest is listed for both Pitt and Baylor as "warm".

I can only imagine the mental gymnastics our friends to west will perform to make Franklin a villain and this kid the hero for what transpired.

April 1 is the last day according to Nationalletter.org.
Still a bit early for the judicial system to sort this out IMO.

Kid can enroll for 2018-19 regardless. If he wants security, he can sign a financial aid agreement in lieu of an NLI. There are no deadlines within which to do this. If he trusts that the coach won't boot him in Year 1, then he can enroll with either.

You are right. I go it backwards. The attorney said he was innocent, the assisitant DA said he was coerced.
My point being that somebody is wrong. I don’t see how PSU can continue to extend the offer until the criminal justice system sorts this out.

Young doesn't have an offer so PSU is not continuing to extend anything. The offer was pulled.

Yes, I know it was pulled. I should have made it clear I was responding to the alleged insider info that PSU was still interested, which seemed unlikely.

Unless you heard that from CJF I'm not betting against CJF filling 25 players in this class. We have not seen a surprise yet, and he has this coming weekend to bring in players for visits, which he has done in the past on the last weekend before signing day.......

It's Narduzzi's new recruiting philosophy

Pennsylvania Penal League
New Jersey Penal League
ETC...

IF he's 100 percent innocent he should get a chance to be on the team. Cmon.
I saw enough on the video to be absolutely certain he is not innocent. But if Franklin wants him, that's fine with me. Won't be the worst a person who wears blue and white has done.

Reality is that because of EEs in 2017, up to 29 could be signed in this cycle. Problem is the 85 limit. So there is no floating ship without subtraction from the current roster. Who would go that allow a walk-on a ship. Certain there will be some unexpected departures, but the dynamics are really not who signs now.

Think about this and the source of this....Franklin cannot comment on a recruit that isn't signed. This isn't happening and it's crap someone put it out there like that.

PSU Rasheed Walker in home visit scheduled tonight

Source: Greg Pickel

In the chess match that is securing a prospect's final in-home visit, James Franklin has outmaneuvered Urban Meyer.

Land of 10 reports that the Lions' head coach, and perhaps other staffers, will have their final meeting with Waldorf, Md., four-star offensive tackle Rasheed Walker and his family on Thursday night before he decides between the Buckeyes and Lions and announces his choice on Feb. 7.

Meyer and his staff visited the family's home on Wednesday night.

According to Ryan Donnelly/Land of 10:

"Ohio State's positioning as the second-to-last visit is not what the Buckeyes desired, I'm told, but it's difficult to prove whether being the final in-home visit has any real impact on recruits. The Buckeyes would have preferred to swap places with Penn State as the two Big Ten powerhouses fight for Walker's services."

Interesting reading many Ohio State fans commenting that Penn State is becoming their biggest recruiting and on the field rival.

I heard on ESPNU radio today that tOSU is trying to come in with a last minute effort to get a commitment from the number 1 OT in this class, who is considered at least a lean (or verbal?) to Florida. I didn't catch the recruits name, but I connected the dots to say that tOSU was hedging their bets based upon Walker not looking to be very likely option for them.

That would be this gentleman:

OSU has also put out 2-3 new offers in the past 7-10 days as well. They now stand at 24 committs. OSU pundits feel the Buckeyes will go over 25 due to counting early-enrolled players back to the previous recruiting class.

DB Boykin visiting PSU this Friday/Saturday

DB Noah Boykin will journey to campus alongside his father, according to 247Sports’ Bill Kurelic. This report reveals the 4-star cornerback intends to arrive Friday before heading to Ohio State on Sunday

These stops in State College and Columbus will occur in an unofficial capacity since he’s already used all five allotted official visits. Boykin, a senior at H.D. Woodson (Washington, D.C.) High School, utilized those trips to Florida, Maryland, Notre Dame, Southern Cal and Virginia.

I thought he had visited last weekend.

FC: Another Penn State walk-on

Offensive lineman Collin De Boef is the latest in a family line to pass through the State College Little Lions high school program and head to a major college football program. His older brothers, Jack and Adam played at Purdue and Penn State respectively.

But De Boef’s role on the Penn State football team won’t be defined for a little while yet. De Boef has accepted a preferred walk-on spot with the Nittany Lions, but as Brian Linder of Pennlive.com writes, Penn State might be getting a steal with the addition of De Boef.

De Boef said he understands his time in the program will developmental in the early years.

“As things progressed, they asked me my senior year if I wanted to come as a walk-on,” he said. “They asked me where I’d like to play, and I told them, ‘Where ever I can help the most.’

Colin De Boef carries 280-pounds on a 6-foot-6 frame and was an all-state lineman for State College in 2017.
