2018 Recruiting Thread

Lind's concession speech

A BRIEF NOTE
This evening, I switched my 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction from Ohio State to Penn State for Maryland four-star offensive tackle Rasheed Walker.

Despite an opportunity for early playing time and the opportunities that come along with the Buckeyes' Real Life Wednesday program, sources close to Walker indicated to Eleven Warriors his — and his family's — relationship with head coach James Franklin gives the Nittany Lions the advantage in his recruitment.

There was a lot of confidence on Ohio State's side following his official visit two weekends ago, and Meyer's in-home visit with Walker last Wednesday went well. But it was always an uphill battle for the Buckeyes [which explains your CB for Ohio State how??]

Don’t think so. Not a single update on him.

I'm going to be bold and suggest that Wash DC CB Noah Boykin will be a surprise last minute commit to PSU. If he maintained his driving plans and arrived State College for a Feb 3 unofficial visit he probably was snowed-in through today/Sunday, leaving no time for unofficial visit to OSU before quiet period starts.
Checkmate!

This is from Q&A with Andy Frank who heads up our recruiting effort. Interesting that he doesn't mention wide receiver.

I'm starting to doubt Enis ending up in this class.

What's your strategy for the last few spots for the second signing date, and if you don't get them, will you keep those scholarships for 2019?

Frank: "We'll have a couple of options. Coach (Franklin) mentioned defensive end and offensive tackle as the two positions we are going to be targeting. We have some guys in mind who we're going to recruit really, really hard, that we want to be part of our family. And we're going to look at some other guys as well at those positions.

"In addition to those two positions, we'll look at best available (players). I think we've covered ourselves everywhere else at every position, other than defensive end and offensive tackle. Other than those two positions, it will be more of who is the best plater we can possibly get?

I think we all wanted Walker more, anyhow. If we get him nobody will have anything to complain about. Enis is merely icing on the cake.

I agree. It's always disappointing when you don't get a legacy, but we need offensive linemen more. Walker is a special talent. Amazing footwork.

From I believe the same article:
"Frank spoke with the media back in late December, on early signing day. Here's some of what he had to say back then, knowing that he, Franklin & Co. head it into Signing Day No. 2 on Wednesday:"

http://www.statecollege.com/news/co...peaks-on-new-signing-date-strategies,1475397/

Those quotes were likely before Oweh publicly committed to PSU and possibly before Smith committed to oh-high-ya. CJF stated on the first signing day that the positions of need after he had knowledge of the first 21 (not publicly recognizing Oweh at that point in time) were OT, and was it DE?? In the past while at PSU CJF has taken the best available player late in the class. Such as the late commitment of T.Brown in 2014, Givens (flip from pitt) in 2015, Chavis in 2016, and Bolds in 2017.

I doubt Enis as well. Not because CJF would not take another WR, but because Enis (and his Mom) just wants to stay closer to home. And if there really is an open spot, that CJF will find a talented player at just about any position to fill that spot.....

According to Rivals:
Boykin will commit on Wednesday during a ceremony at his school that will start around 11:30am. Boykin already knows where he is going and might tell the school a day or two before Signing Day.

At this point it's hard to see Boykin ending up at any school other than Florida. The Gators knocked their official visit out of the park and the coaches have been all over Boykin since the dead period ended earlier this month

While I think it’s great to have multiple generations playing within our football program, I don’t think I’ll lose a second thinking about a legacy who doesn’t want to be here. If they are coincidently a position of need and/or going to a direct rival, then it may sting a little more, but the loss is of the recruits potential impact to the team, not of his legacy status.

What's wrong with you people letting this thread slip to page 2 just before NSD? I know we were spoiled with our early signing day success, but come on! We are !!!

Enis, a 4-star wide receiver prospect and the son of former Nittany Lions running back Curtis Enis, will reveal his plans at 1 p.m. ET Wednesday at North Canyon (Phoenix) High School.

The 6-foot-4, 190-pound playmaker is weighing four options, North Canyon coach Airabin Justin told Obert. Penn State faces competition from Arizona State, USC and Utah

Walker, Walker and Walker are my 1, 2 and 3,
Enis would be a great get, not because he is a legacy but because he iis a versatile athlete but I think with Gattis gone and mom wanting him close to home he's a Ute. Boykin I like but too late in the game.... hope am surprised.

Walker will announce on National Signing Day, though an exact time isn’t yet public. Walker probably told CJF today if he is coming home to PSU.

I’m not sure I like this tweet from BLESSEDMVP Micah Parsons

I hate when recruits or someone in general say I'm going to this school because this school puts the most kids in the league or in their specific position because if you want it bad enough you will go to the league from anywhere!! #buildyourownbrand

For the record, Brent Pry and Jayson Oweh “liked” the tweet

I don’t think anybody is confident with where they think he is going to choose.

Most of the important OSU recruiting reporters have flipped to Penn State with their picks. Always the possibility that RW is trolling everyone. But I think its Penn State.

Since that is the argument a lot of the OSU writers were using as to why Walker should go there, I have no problem with that tweet.

Is Utah really close to Phoenix? Hmmm. It’s 660 miles from Phoenix to Salt Lake City. It’s 716 miles from State College PA to Madison Wisconsin.

True but perception and reality are two separate things.... it's an hour and a half more by plane....I know.... but again... perception.

Looks like OSU has some trimming to do.

"With 24 commitments in the 2018 recruiting class, the Buckeyes are at 87 scholarships for next season — two over the NCAA-mandated limit. They'll need to be down to 85 by the open of fall camp or the first day of fall semester, whichever comes first."

We have a similar situation. There will still be some attrition so I don't think it will be a situation where a difficult decision needs to be made.

Is Ryan Snyder sure of anything? Are any of these crystal ball guys sure of anything? i suppose that is why they are called crystal balls and not locks.
That isn't my point. The comment was the Ryan Snyder wasn't confident that Walker was going to be a Nittany Lion, and I was wondering whether he has predicted him to tOSU or some other school like MD, VT.
