Still 1-0, Liverpool, in the 86th minute. Watford have given a great effort, but they have no one on the front line who can finish.

Less of a chance now. Liverpool 10 pts clear of Leicester. 17 clear of MC. Let's hope arsenal keeps it that way tomorrow.
It’s not happening. Liverpool has dropped two points in 17 matches. How are they going to drop ten points in the last 21? They’re just too good. They might lose three matches total and that’s nine points. What is LC going to do, sweep?

And, Liverpool already beat LC previously so they won't be intimidated by them when they play them away again.

And(2) they will be getting a few injured players back come January.

Watford gave Liverpool a tough match today. Watford whiffed twice at point-blank range. Also, Liverpool nearly had an own goal thanks to a miscommunication between a defender and the keeper.

That’s the thing about the PL, teams always play hard. No one wants to be relegated.

The last television contract for the league changed everything. It amounted to over a billion pounds spread equally throughout the 20 teams. The league used it wisely too. Teams which are relegated are given a parachute payment and teams promoted into the league are given an immediate cash infusion to improve their team and facilities.

The result is that the league has gotten a lot stronger top to bottom. The top teams still have massive resources and can outspend anyone, but the mid-tier teams can hang on to their best players a lot longer. Leicester is the perfect example. United wanted James Maddison badly this off season and offered a huge sum but Leicester said no and were able to hang on to maybe the best young midfielder in England.

And another benefit is that the mid-tier teams are now also able to outspend nearly everyone in foreign leagues except the elite. Teams like Valencia and Villarreal in Spain are great at finding and developing talent. The mid to lower tier teams in England are now able to buy their best players and outbid them for others.

It is no coincidence England is fielding its’ first truly world class team capable of challenging for a World Cup in the last 50 years now. The parity throughout the league has benefited everyone.

Liverpool are interested in signing RB Salzburg's Takumi Minamino when the January transfer window opens.

The Japan attacking midfielder impressed against Liverpool in their two Champions League group games this season, scoring at Anfield.

The 24-year-old has a £7.25m release clause in his contract, which has alerted a number of Premier League, Bundesliga and Serie A clubs, so the Reds are accelerating their interest.

Minamino has been one of the stars of an exciting Salzburg team that has lit up the Champions League group stage this season, playing alongside the equally impressive forwards Hwang-Hee Chan and Erling Braut Haaland.

After going 3-0 down on Merseyside in October, head coach Jesse Marsch switched Minamino's position and he stole the show in a No.10 role, as Salzburg came back to 3-3 before Mohamed Salah bagged a late winner.

Minamino, who has 11 goals in 22 games for Japan, also scored against Genk and has seven more in league and cup in Austria this season, taking his tally to nine in all competitions so far.

He joined RB Salzburg from Japanese side Cerezo Osaka for less than £1m in 2015.

The draw for the Champions League last 16 will take place from 11am GMT on Monday, at UEFA headquarters in Nyon.

Liverpool booked their place in the knockout stages with a 2-0 win at Salzburg last Tuesday that sealed top spot in Group E for the holders.

The Reds are seeded and will be paired with one of the teams that finished second in their section.

They cannot be drawn against Chelsea, Napoli or Tottenham Hotspur, however.

Jürgen Klopp's men will therefore face one of these five sides: Atalanta, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Lyon, Real Madrid.

Liverpool will be away from home for the first leg of their last-16 tie, with the return match at Anfield.

First legs are scheduled for February 18, 19, 25 or 26 and the second legs are set for March 10, 11, 17 or 18.

Today’s scores:

Manchester United 1, Everton 1
Manchester City 3, Arsenal
Tottenham 2, Wolverton 1

Liverpool's Premier League fixture at West Ham United in December has been postponed due to the club's invitation to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup.

The Reds were set to meet the Hammers at the London Stadium on December 21; however, the contest will be rescheduled, the Premier League have confirmed, because of the club’s involvement in the FIFA competition.

The FIFA Club World Cup will take place in Qatar between December 11 and 21, with Jürgen Klopp’s side entering at the semi-final stage on December 18.

Further details on both the rearrangement of the fixture with West Ham, and Liverpool’s participation in the Club World Cup, will be published on Liverpoolfc.com in due course.
