2019 NCAAs -- Session 5 Thread

Jesus. The refs just completely blew the TD for Deakin. My god that’s pathetic

That ref (#16) is easily the worst ref out of them all. Having seen him multiple times this season and throughout the Big10s and Nationals, he's always in the middle of poor calls. Just clueless. I wouldn't be comfortable with him ref'ing a junior high match.

I hope Scott Moore stays at Lock Haven but wouldn't blame him if he went to a bigger/ better coaching job. Having a Lock Haven resurgence is good for PA wrestling.

It’s remarkable to think that no teams below PSU might break the 100 point mark. Presently Iowa has 71 with a ceiling of 80, OKST has 82 with a ceiling of 100, and tOSU has 96.5 with a ceiling of 117.5 if they finish out perfectly.

EDIT: now only tOSU has a shot at breaking 100.

He lost to a finalist and the 3rd place finisher that was a 4 timer in PA. 165 was a meat grinder this year. I'm very proud of Alex and look forward to watching him the next 2 years
I agree with you Turk, not to mention Mekhi won the junior gold. Marinelli never got a chance to breath in his side of the bracket and he wouldn’t have had much breathing room against Wick. Great wrestler and always seems to show great sportsmanship

I agree. I don't think Maryland is that job as mentioned in another post. I can understand interviewing for it, but not taking it. Money talks but IMO, LH is the better wrestling school.

I think Marinelli finished about right as he showed last year. As you said, 165 was a meat grinder and anywhere from 3rd to 8th could have been pulled blind out of a hat. Wrestle again, you likely have most of the same guys, just in different positions. Marinelli raises expectations because he has shown he can beat Vincenzo while no one else to this point has. It may not be fair to him. That said, he still has room to grow and a National Title is not out of the question.

Not sure if serious

Gibbons attempts to downplay Gable's loss to poor strategy, Taylor comes back with the new version of heavy weight is more agile and athletic which played a big roll. I do however think Gable is plenty agile.

Lots of clear separation between the top teams. Heading into tonight's finals the top 5 teams finishing order is already locked in.

1. Penn State
2. Ohio State
3. Oklahoma State
4. Iowa
5. Missouri

Michigan is in 5th place ahead of Missouri. Neither have a finalist. What am I missing?

I was shocked he made it to the Nationals. He seems like he is in over his head.

Mizzou leads Michigan by a half point, but has a consolation wrestler. Cornell could still beat them both for 5th.
See the first page of the thread and under Tom's post, click on the PSWC link and then the team scores.

Did I miss anyone?

Nick Lee has scored the same number of points as Yianni:

Nick Lee (Penn State) 16
Yianni Diakomihalis (Cornell) 16

Kind of like when DT scored 24 to Dake's 22 when Dake was the champ haha. (not apples to apples since they didn't wrestle directly obviously)

If Nick won last night, he'd be at 20. Then assuming Yianni wins, they'd both have scored 20 a piece.

How many challenges did PSU use up so far and how many do you get in total? Does this meet criteria for NF(40 sec mark)? trying to link the NF in the Bravo Young/ Lizak match

Obviously someone has it wrong. After the placement matches, Michigan has 62.5 points according to both TrackWrestling and Flo. Which puts them in 5th Place, a half point ahead of Missouri. They flipped after Myles Amine beat Daniel Lewis for 3rd Place at 174.

Glad Lizak is gone. That's not wrestling. That's bullshit. He won but that's ridiculous for wrestling. He does nothing but put boots in and rarely goes for a move.
Makes me wonder what would have happened, if he were at PSU. He still looks like Zain, true freshman year, on top, compare how Zain transformed, after his redshirt year. Lizak never moved past that, put in the boots and ride.

I agree #16 and #3 are terrible.

3x AA with over 90% of victories bonus point wins. But I understand, he beat your guy so he's trash. Funny that the Iowa board is also saying the same thing because he beat DeSanto.
People have always said that Iowa wrestling fans aren't really wrestling fans, they're just Iowa fans. Didn't know the same thing applied to Penn State fans.

Just a couple of quick thoughts about my first NCAA experience this morning. This morning was some of the best wrestling I have ever gotten to watch in person. Seeing some of the greats walking around the arena like normal people is so cool. Looking around the stands and seeing Bo and Cenzo hanging with their families is one of the things I have always loved this sport. Speaking of which somebody is wearing a kind of famous white hat, not saying who, but could be important.;) Right now having a couple of beverages at Mullen’s and counting down the minutes till finals. WE ARE!!!!

Your coach is straight-up the biggest bitch I’ve ever seen in any sport, at any time. He constantly complains and berates and whines, even taking time to come over and moan to the officials at their bench after the match is over. Your has-been program deserves this clown.
